PVR Downloads

Thread Starter
Bell has an external hard drive available to store (archieve) recorded programs. It seems the 9242 has to interact with a hard drive versus some sort of other external memory device. I'm wondering if there is a method for archieving things to my laptop?

Any thoughts or experiences?

I don't have experience with this specific unit, but every DVR I'm aware of encrypts material stored on its disk (internal or external) to defeat attempts to copy media directly from disk. Certain DVRs (like TiVo, certain Dish DVRs) do provide means by which you can download shows from the DVR to another device, though the means and mechanisms vary. I'm guessing that you're probably out of luck though.

There are two video capture cards that I know of that will let you record HD content from the component ports of your DVR to your computer. If you have a Mac, then use the Blackmagic Video Recorder. And, if you have a PC, then use the Hauppauge HD-PVR. I think EyeTV software will also support the Hauppage HD-PVR on the Mac.
