connecting M3A78-EM to Onkyo SR-TX606 via HDMI doesn't work

Hello,
I just got an Onkyo HT-S7100 HTIB, which comes with the Onkyo TX-SR606. Everything is working fine, except when I connect my HTPC it doesn't come on the TV. The HTPC works fine when connected straight to the tv, but for some reason will not work when going through the onkyo. My TV only has one HDMI port, and it would be bothersome to have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting the HTPC when I want to use it. Also, would vista solve the problem?

The Computer;s specs are as follows:
Windows XP SP2
4 GB of Ram (DDR2)
2 TB (1 tb x2)
Phenom 9600
ASUS M3A78-EM

Please Help!

HDCP isn't required so it's not any type of problem like that.

My guess is that the resolution/refresh isn't fully supported. It may be that you're putting out 1080p/59 or something like that. You may want to try 1280*720 and see if you get anything that way.

thanks for the advice, but i tried changing it to 1280 x 720, along with a variety of other resolutions, but nothing seems to be working. A variety of lights are on the Onkyo, including Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic, HDMI, and Audyssey, but it still doesn't work.

nevermind, i resolved my issue. If anyone else has this problem, I switched the HDMI input on the Onkyo from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1, I don't know why this worked, but it did. Thanks to steven975 for his advice

you must have HDMI1 mapped to that input (the back may have it labeled as "DVD" but you can change it in the receiver menu). I have the 605 so I'm familiar with how that works.

Hmm, cant get this mobo to work on an onkyo 506 at my brothers, was going to buy it for my onkyo 606 but am scared. And yes I know how to do my inputs.

i have the same problem with my 905 and asus m3a78-em mobo. 905 just sits there indicating 'no signal'. i can get it to work only by connecting the m3a78-em to another tv that it will boot to, then hot swap the tv for the 905.

i even went so far to upgrade my 905 main firmware to 1.9 which did nothing to help this situation.

i have not tried in1 yet, as i can't see how that would be any different provided they are configured properly in the i/o setup option.

anyone have any suggestions?

i have been soooo frustrated with this problem. ps3 works fine with 905 hdmi, sony dvd/vcr works fine with 905 hdmi input. what's up with the mobo needing to boot to a tv first?

i'm starting to think it must be the mobo hd3200 chipset. has anyone had any success with any other video card? i wouldn't object to solving this by dropping in another video card...

Hi - I have an Onk 805 and had some intial problems with the HDMI 'handshke' using the Asus M3A78-EMH HDMI mb.

Firstly what drivers do you have installed? - from memory I had to install both the ATI HDMI Driver (now on version R.213, I think) and the Realtek Audio Drivers.

Although both installations required soft re-boots, I needed a hard re-boot to get the devices to all function correctly.

Drivers:
ATI 8.570.0.0
Realtek 6.0.1.5745

i just discoverd that subsequent to upgrading to onkyo main fw to 1.09 that the 'boot to tv first' workaround no longer works. so i now observe 'no signal' no matter what.

maybe later today i'll try osd immediate = off and hdmi resolution = through which i think some users have found successful.

i finally solved all of my hdmi problems. i purchased an iceq his radeon hd 4670 pcix16 card on ebay for less than $80 including shipping. this motherboard's built in hd 3200 is terribly hosed. the add-on video approach has proven to work well.
