Newbie Samsung PN63A650 questions

Thread Starter
I just got the PN63A650 and its super cool TV. But I have few questions:

1. What is the minimum and optimum viewing distance (in inches) for me to place my couch.

2. In the 4:3 mode, it shows white strips on both sides of the picture. How can I change this to show black instead so that it is not distracting.

3. My wife and I both are getting itchy/dry eyes since we got this TV (few days ago) and we are watching few hours at a time with a max of 5 hours on the day we got it and today on Saturday. Any ideas?

Thanks.

1. I say 10-15 feet would be ideal for the screen size.

2. If you have a zoom feature that has stretch mode that will help. But based on this occurrence it has something to do with the source material.

3. Lower your brightness. It will look quite dim, but give you a natural look to the picture and help on the eyes.

You control the color of the side bars via your receiver. Dish Network allows you to choose either black or gray. But if you choose black understand that you are promoting burn in

For your eye problems during long viewing, you may want to look into some type of Back Lighting. It will not only make the picture look a bit better, but make your eye's feel better also.

As for the side Bars, Usually it's a light Grey on normal 4:3 content while on HD channels showing 4:3 content it'll be Black! You can't normally change this. You can switch screen display modes to say JUST for example to fill the screen up. Of course this will distort the picture a bit by stretching it out to the sides, but it's a option. Have the Bars that are annoying to you or stretch out the picture. Your choice. Do a search here though on Back Lighting for more info. It can be a cheap fix to much more depending on your situation. I've been thinking about trying it myself.
