When digital broadcasting started, the stations were given a second broadcast frequency, usually UHF, so they could broadcast in digital and keep broadcasting in analog simultaneously.
My understanding is that eventually, the stations will have to give up one of the frequencies - they either keep their original frequency, or they can keep the new UHF frequency, but not both.
Is this correct? When the day comes that there is only digital television broadcasting, will it be on VHF or UHF? I can't believe many stations will give up their original frequency assignments.
What spectrum of bandwidth does the FCC want to reclaim and how is it going to be reallocated?
