Media Browser: Great alternative to DVD Library/My Movies/Movie Collector - Page 49

MediaBrowser can only launch an external player for certain types of video files defined here: http://www.mediabrowser.tv/wiki/inde...ternal_Players, which is also case sensitive.

As you can see "VOB" is not one of the types so nothing will happen, i believe you have to use "DVD" to launch an external player for movies ripped in the native VIDEO_TS folder format.

Take Care

Can someone tell me if I delete MB and do a fresh install of the latest version which I have now will I need to go redo all the editing I've done so far like changing the MB icon on the start menu?? Also I'm hoping that if I do the fresh install I will finally be able to use the show backdrops on support views feature. I have backdrops that show up but only after I select the movie, nothing changes when I scroll through the library in the Vinilla theme.

yes you will lose the first icon so back it up if ya dont have another copy.
as for the rest it should be fine.

hey guys im using a few scripts in ffdshow for MPC. is there a way to get vista media center or media browser to play my files with media player classic instead of the default player?

in media center every time i try to play a mkv file, it gives me an error or just sits there. i minimized the media center and media player 11 was giving me an error, but when i clicked on the mkv file in the windows media player playlist, it downloaded some info and started playing the file. i went back into media center tried to play the same file, and it gave me the same error.

im pretty sure i got the right codecs.

sorry im pretty new to the htpc scene.

sounds like a setting in ffdshow is screwed up (which isnt hard to do), if you made any changes, go to each tab and hit the restore defaults button.

if you still want to launch MPC check up a few posts (on this page) there is instructions on how to do it from MB.

cant seem to play my mkv files thru media center.

it displays the cover art for each file, but wil not play. it will give me an audio error or just sit there.

if i close media center i can play the file from the desktop.

I want TMT to be default and no BD starts. And I can't find C:\\ProgramData to even try. Only DVDs play. Thanks

yes mike i am using media browser to launch. its the same for all my files even avi/divx files. i will click on a tv show and hit play, but the screen just goes black. media center is still running. its not freezing or anything like that.

for media browser, if i click on the mkv file, a blue screen with this message
"cannot play file", but the file plays fine with WMP11 and MPC outside of media center.

my os is vista 64. not sure if that matters or not.

thanks

Does it matter where I have my backdrop images and folder images? I'm not sure why but I have two copies of each image .. One in the Video_TS folder and one in the main folder where the Video folder sits. If I only need one image where should it be for the backdrop to come up when I flip through? right now all my backdrops work I just have to click on the folder image to see them.

Did you install the 64-bit codecs for Media Center? WMP11 will work outside Media Center in 32-bit mode, so it can be deceiving.

You may want to try Shark007's x64 Vista pack for simplicity.

x2

This is your problem. The link for WMP on the start menu loads the 32-bit version not the 64-bit but WMC runs in 64-bit only. If you went to your Windows directory and manually loaded the 64-bit version of WMP you'd see that it would not be able to play any codecs that WMC can't. MPC works because it is a stand alone player (includes all the codecs it needs to run).

Install the 64-bit version of matroska splitter and the 64-bit version of FFDShow and things should then work.

I'm not very acquainted with TS Folders so I really cant say for sure but my backdrop.jpg's are in the root folder along with the folder.png

Settingsun is doing a very cool set of Movie Box Set Icons at the MB Forum.

I'm playing with some icons to serve as a Movie Boxset Play All button inside my new box set category.
Tell me what you think.

nice, does this work with stark covers somehow or do you have to manually make them.

That is SO true. I'm always trying a new icon set, or cover format. I should just kick back and enjoy the show...

My wish is that Brian Binnerup (MyMovies dev) would team up with the Media Browser guys and come out with the ultimate Movie front-end. Brian's back-end metadata database is tops now, but at the cost of not evolving the front-end. He totally missed the MCML boat. Same time Media Browser suffers because it has to scrape data from third party websites so often the stuff is inaccurate/incomplete.

This will probably never happen because Brian is insanely stubborn when it comes to taking advice or not doing absolutely everything himself according to his "vision", so for now we can only dream.

I *am* digging mediabrowser though - got into it recently.

For the love of god no. Stay away from Shark007's Vista pack. it's an utter mess and many people have had to do O/S reinstalls because stuff just wasn't working afterward, or if you try to swap codecs or change something you're SOL. He has a new codec pack for Windows7 out which looks a bit less cluttered and chaotic, including 64-bit support, but I haven't had time to check it out yet.

People need to realize there really isn't THAT much you need to install to play back pretty much everything. Get FFDSHOW and matroska splitter and you've got like 99% of stuff covered. They even have 64-bit versions of each now, as already mentioned. Then all you need is BD playback software (Arcsoft TMT or whatever).
so i got the 64bit matroska file, it is a "MatroskaSplitter.ax" where do i put this file?
right now with media player(64) i get sound, but no picture.

also is it bad to leave the 32bit versions of ffdshow & matroski on the system? or should i delete the 32 bit versions, and only have the 64 bit versions?

Well, here I'm finding it more difficult than installing Xonar, new ATI card or an OS reinstall. TMT as default, how? Thanks for any help.

Didn't notice the matroska splitter wasn't an install package. You can place the file anywhere on your computer.

You then need to open a Command Prompt run as administrator (may have to turn off UAC as well) and then type:

C:\\Windows\\SysWOW64\
egsvr32.exe "\\MatroskaSplitter.ax"

If it succeeds in registering, you'll get a message saying so. Also, check the sysWOW64 folder and see if a regsvr64.exe exists. If so, use that one instead of regsvr32.exe. I don't run x64 so I'm not sure if it has a different file.

I'd personally get rid of the 32-bit versions. You don't need them and they could cause conflicts with each other. If you ever want to load files in WMP then change the link on your start menu to the 64-bit version.

Cool. Do you take requests: "Rush Hour"; "Species"; "Spiderman"..... Or any idea how newbies like us can do it too?

Thx.
