Interesting. Diamond is the only one other than Default that works for me. I have ensured that I ticked the boxes necessary. Luckily I like the Diamond theme. I am really enjoying the setup I have achieved by way of MB. Now that MPC HC is working with it beautifully life is really getting great. Now all I need is a AVR that can handle bitstreaming and I will be set. My analog setup sounds pretty good and FLAC is so reliable and easy. So eventually I will get back to tinkering, but for now I will enjoy for a while.

In 2.2.1 my local trailers played in a window in the upper right of VMC. With 2.2.2 local trailers now play full screen. Is there anyway I can force trailers to their previous behavior in 2.2.1?

I like the windowed trailer as I can choose to start the movie at anytime without having to hit "back" first.

It's not broken. In these themes, you need to keep moving the cursor to the very top or very left of the screen, and once you scroll off the edge of the screen, the config will appear.

Also, some themes allow you to access the config by pressing # on your remote.

For more details, have a read of this topic on the Knowledge Base: How do I access the configuration menu?

20$ per years?!?

No thank you. I would be willing to pay a one time $20 fee but this isn't World of Warcraft. This is a simple utility to fetch metadata for media file on my computer.

I think I'll stick with SMO and get my BG image from elsewhere thank you.

Is there a program similar to MediaBrowser that is a stand alone program instead of one that integrates into WMC? I do not use WMC but still would love to have a program that finds and shows me all the info about the movies I have stored on my PC.

Thanks.

XBMC, Media Portal

Those are the other two most popular frontend on the windows plateform.

I agree.. Im at the point where I will pay the $$ for MyMovies and be done with it and get a ton more features with a relatively stable application...

Meta Browser has never been an overly stable product that includes Media Browser... MyMovies which I have used in the past typically was very stable - always felt like a commercial product.

That did the trick. Put the mouse all the way at the bottom and select the down arrow and the hidden menu's come up. Thanks.

I have been using Media Browser and Media Center Master for my setup and am really enjoying it. My Movies seemed decent but they want you to pay so much for the external player functionality. I am not opposed to paying for good stuff but I thought the price for that function was a little steep. I believe it was upwards of $50. Also when I was using My movies I kept getting pop-ups all the time say the program found new movie content and needed to do something. I did not like that. Media Browser is very unobtrusive and is getting better all the time. Media Center Master has been awesome for pulling in all my meta data with the greatest of ease. So I am very happy with both and my setup in general. Of course I am always open to new stuff. I wouldn't have an HTPC if I didn't like to tinker.

That is just a setting in Collection Management that you can shut off. If you were getting that popup it is because you had WMC/MyMovies designated to search for new content. You could have switched that to CM and the popup goes away

I having problems finding BACKDROPS for "The Blue and The Gray Recut".

Does anyone know where I can find backdrops for the Original Movie or the re-cut. I had to create my own folder JPG/PNG for this title. Meta-browser would not pick up anything related to this movie.

I followed many of your guides and have been to your blog numerous times. Your knowledge is well respected by me, for sure. In your opinion, do you think or like My Movies better than Media Browser? Is there distinct advantages and disadvantages to both? Thanks.

Good question. I will state that I use Media Browser. The reasons for me at least are:

- Ability to create virtual folders. This really helps me to sort out my media collection and separate My Movies from Kids movies from Sports, etc.. really increases the WAF. Of course this is useful to me because the way my folder structure is I separate out already (I put HD Movies in one folder, Kids movies in another folder, etc...). If you don't do this and just put all your movies in one main Videos folder then obviously there is no benefit to this
- Music support
- TV Show support. This is HUGE for me. I think Brian over at MyMovies is working on eventually adding, but until this is supported I cannot consider MyMovies
- The new plugin architecture, a lot of nice options and potential
- Great user community

Now all that being said MyMovies is still a great application and Collection Management is second to none (I actually still use collection management to gather my metadata initially so I can get the hi res Blu Ray covers). It is simplistic compared to all the moving parts of MediaaBrowser which for some is a good thing.

Funny enough, I was talking with someone else yesterday about Media Browser. He had noticed that Media Browser seemed to be getting more buggy with each release, and to be honest I have had more weird/buggy issues come up with the newer releases. Maybe it is because there are more hands in the pot, plugins, etc...not sure. I also do not like the fact that they killed the local trailer feature (i.e. referencing in the xml). The Trailer subfolder is nice, but they should have left you to choose either way. Since I test out a lot of different software and have multiple players in my house adding a Trailer folder with each movie causes havoc with my other players.

So for me Media Browser is still my top choice for the reasons I listed. The developers and community have done a great job, I just hope they don't over develop it if that makes any sense.

However, I do keep myself open to the other players out there such as MyMovies, XBMC, SageTV, etc... and if another player meets my needs I will have no problems switching over.

Probably the next thing I got my eye on is SageTV. The UI is hideous right now but MyMovies implementation is getting worked on which looks great, and hopefully a complete facelift is coming (some pics of a possible new UI, not part of version 7)

Wow, does anyone else find that 2.2.2 is just ridiculously buggy? I enter MB and 75% of the time nothing is listed or it will just hang MC. 2.2.1 was great, just wasn't as fast as the latest it.

$20.00 per Year?
Is this a Joke?

It really never worked 100% stable for me, and it looks like somehow it is getting worse.
Some of the earlier versions actually worked somewhat.
No way is this Software ready for a final release or ready to charge for it.

If you're using this for TV, you're really missing out.. MyTV (http://mytv.senseitweb.net/) is an infinitely better product for just TV.

I really like media browser, and I keep TV in it as well.. but if you're willing to setup MyTV, you'll find that it does too many TV oriented things that there is just no way to make Mediabrowser do.

Just installed it yesterday and have no issues. I'm using the chocolate theme and cleared out all the previous cached files from 2.2.1.

Sorry about that, mytv.senseitweb.com.

Comes up fine for me. If you get stuck, email Arne. The guy at that site is really good, and damn, that product for organizing TV is pretty incredible. I love Media Browser (I'm using Stark Covers and love the virtual linkage) but it is incredibly slow performing compared to the SQL designed MyTV, which also has a much better search and organizing function, as well as direct ability to make changes in how it displays content, better actor orientation and handling of series presentation.

I love Media Browser (for Movies) and view it very well over the much-too-expensive MyMovies, but for TV? MyTV is the answer (JMHO)

Think it only fair that users, or those considering a switch, should be aware that MyTV is not a 'free' programme. Cost of licence $14.99.

Yeah, that would have been an important fact to mention.

Also, I really prefer to keep the tv/movie infrastructure together, just makes it easier for the wife, especially when navigating through my sons collection

Interesting that folks are having such issues with v2.2.2. I guess I am lucky so far that all is well. I have not tried trailers yet and I do not use it for TV. I am going to try the music plugin here soon. So far for just watching movies everything is great, unless I have overlooked something.
To clarify, the $20 per year is for MetaBrowser for collecting meta data, not for Media Browser plugin, correct? Because I can't find anything for Media Browser going pay.

As for MyMovies, I like the way it looks but I'm not using it for 2 main reasons:
1) It costs waaaaay too much. I hate the point system and to get even a couple main features you're paying $50. No thanks, too many other free or donationware products out there.
2) Doesn't handle TV Series. Deal breaker right there for me.

The $20/yr subscription is for using metabrowser, not for access to any plugins. Keep in mind that <>< has not officially commented to the subscription model as the new version is still a few weeks away from release

Will the old metabrowser stop collecting data?
