Media Browser: Great alternative to DVD Library/My Movies/Movie Collector - Page 118

Does Mediabrowser have the capability of automatically pulling movie trailer info like xmbc?

When i had mediabrowser i remember i had to go download every trailer for the movies i owned manually and place it in the proper folder structure.

Under xmbc Aeon mQ theme the trailers got pulled from metadata (i assume) for everymovie i owned automatically.

I'm tired of the constant bugs and tweaking with xmbc and i'm contemplating a move back to MB. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

You would need a third party app such as MetaBrowser to automatically pull in the trailers (plus all the other metadata that you wish).

Media Browser "Titan" is nearing release everyone. They may release an RC, the download may not be active for long.

What's new in this one?

Try this on the Media Browser Community Tracker; Titan. The Release Notes should be available soon.

Thank you for the reply.

I was checking out metabrowser and had a few questions. Is this a seperate program that i would use instead of mediabrowser or does this work like a MB plug-in?

It is seperate, all it does is scrape metadata for you. Media center master is the one I like.

+1. I especially like the option to right click on a movie to manually "Choose poster, backdrops, and banners" (must be enabled in Applications->Settings and Preferences->Artwork).

Sometimes I find a much better choice of poster (e.g. DVD cover) than the one that was automatically downloaded.

I believe the best option for network drives is to use UNC paths, if that's what you mean by URL.

Yeah...meant UNC. heh

When I use the configurator, it changes the startup folder to the local drive, which is not where I want it....since that forces me to start inside a folder rather than just show all the movies straight away.

Ah, I see. If you just have the one media collection on your home screen though, you should be able to use the 'Auto Enter Single Folder' option to go straight into it. (You might need to turn off the EHS for this to work.)

You can manually customise all the artwork and metadata in MetaBrowser too. Personally I just prefer the interface in MetaBrowser to Media Center Master, but it's nice that we have options.

I do too...or did when I originally used it back in the day...but I downloaded the trial to decide whether or not I wanted to pay for the app and COULD NOT get it to detect my Media Library. It was very frustrating...so back to Media Center Master I was forced to go.

Just installed Media Browser on my son's PC...he's turning in to one of us now.

Strange, I've never had any issues like that at all. You just had your folder structure in the normal Media Browser compatible setup, right?

(Edit) Oh, something else that just occurred to me. Remember as well that MetaBrowser 2 moved to a plugin structure, so you need to install the Media Browser plugin (and I think the MB Saver as well) to get it to recognise and save in a way that's compatible with MB. I think this is because you can now choose what front end you're using, such as MB, XMBC, and so on.

I may be missing something...once installed, I just opened Metabrowser, added the locations for my library (same locations Media Browser uses) and I could never get a single title to show up. Not sure if it was the fact my library is 99% .ISO files or not but nothing.

yea you have to spec out the savers and fetches you want to use. I tried Meta Browser and Media Master and found Meta Browser more to my liking when I figured it out. Mostly because of trailer support

I've installed Titan (MB 2.3.1). But I'm having issues with the Chocolate Theme. I can navigate, but can't play anything.

[Update] There appears to be a known issue with Chocolate. An update or at least a re-compile is needed. I'm running the default theme without issue so far.

Do you mean same as Media Center?? All you have to do is make a folder on your PC called "My Movies" for example and add that as a dir in MediaBrowser. Also, make sure you library has the proper folder structure. Each movie needs to be in its own folder. ie: My Movies/Iron Man 2/IronMan2.iso. If you follow this setup it should work fine.

Does anyone know if there is/will be an ipad app that has 2 way communication with media browser?

There was work on a web based control that you could access Media Browser via (not an App), but I believe there were a lot of issues and don't know if there has been much progress.

Right now if iPxx integration is important MyMovies is the way to go with WMC

Well...since the library is the same for everything as all the movies I have ripped currently reside on this HTPC...yes.

MetaBrowser just didn't do anything. Kept telling me "No Media Found" even though I had told it where my library was.

Again, I'm probably missing something (as stated above) and I don't recall setting up any "fetchers"...maybe that was it. However, if it's too hard for me to figure out, then it's probably not gonna be something I enjoy using.

Titan installed today.

So far so good. It did a manual install of my folders and I had to update a few.

For instance it loaded the wrong info for Salt, Scarface (apparently there is a scarface from the 30s or something), Last of the Mohicans, Heat, etc.

It also erases your preference such as how you want to view your folders. I changed it back to coverflow and all is good.

Took about 7 seconds to open from the desktop (non-SSD). Intra-mediabrowser navigation is great and seems a little peppier than the previous version.

So far I am a fan.

I use Pearl and Coverart.

^Assassin, I was going to try Titan, but now you've got me wondering if I should. I use Media Center Master to collect my metadata, and I've got it working just the way I want. Media Browser is set not to collect data. Surely you can still set it up that way with Titan?

Absolutely (I think).

I DON'T use MCM.

You have to enter the configurator before you start MB so you should be able to adjust the settings there.

I use Media Center Master to maintain my metadata. I just upgraded to Titan and it remembered by settings (i.e. Allow Internet Providers was still de-selected).

Do you not store the metadata locally with the movies????? If not thats crazy.

I just installed Titan over Draco and lost my playstate info (watched episodes/movies). I have over 100 TV Series folders (with 1 to 8 seasons in each).
Bummer...

That's unfortunate. To speed things up, remember that you can manually change the watched status for any item by pressing Clear on your remote or Control+W on the keyboard. You can also do this on a season, series, or even a top-level folder to toggle all the media inside.

Not sure why your playstates were lost though, I haven't heard of this happening to anyone else, and didn't have any issues myself. Did you follow the upgrade instructions and let the cache migration complete?

Assassin, a good habit to get into would be to always add the year to the folder name (for movies only):
  • Salt (2010)
  • Scarface (1983)
  • Heat (1995)
It never hurts to do this, even for movies that don't have duplicates or remakes (yet...). TV shows should only have the year there when there is a duplicate though, because otherwise it actually hinders the search.

Or course, an even better habit would be to use a third-party metadata fetcher, since they give you so much control over these things, and means less pressure on the TMDB and TVDB servers.
