Yah I think after a while we all learn to just leave it alone after trying to "make it better" one too many times.

You could always make a complete backup of your C:\\ProgramData\\MediaBrowser\\ folder, as this includes your cache with the watched statuses (well, actually, you moved the playstates elsewhere, so you'd need to back up that folder as well). Try the upgrade, and if you do happen to lose your watched states, uninstall, copy back the ProgramData folder, and reinstall 2.3.0.

You should also follow the upgrade process from this link.

Thanks, if I feel the need to upgrade I'll do that, after hearing the issues Damian is having, and knowing mine is working fine, I am going to leave well enough alone.

Sorting tv shows.

I feel media browser sucks at this. It doesn't have a proper sorting option imo. I want the shows with new episodes to be in the front. The closest thing I have found is sort by date. But that goes by the date of the folder. So if a show gets new episodes it doesn't get bumped up.

You can also sort by watch count but thats no good because I have some shows with numerous seasons that I haven't got to yet, so those are always in front.

It seems like an easy fix but to me somehting that should be common. I guess I should post on the tracker or whatever it is.

Anyone found a way to get this working?

I sort by unwatched, it's easy to pick out the "can't miss, gotta watch weekly shows" because it will show a "1" next to it and the full seasons I haven't gotten to have way more than that. The Pearl theme is worth the few bucks and make sure MB config is set to show unwatched count.

Does anyone know if Blu-Ray Episodes are supported in the Titan release?
There was some talk in a couple of threads in MB forum a few months ago. But there's no indication of this anywhere with the new release.
What do you mean by blu-ray episodes? Media Browser understands just about all video container formats, such as ISO, MKV, AVI, WMV, etc. As long as you name the file correctly, Media Browser will have no issue pulling meta data.

TV series in Blu-Ray format; individual Episodes in BDMV folders or ISO format.
MB stores TV meta-data differently than Movie meta-data. So when it encounters TV data, it looks for individual files in avi, mkv etc. format. It doesn't recognize BDMV or ISO when it comes to TV series. Even DVD folder structure (VIDEO_TS) support is a recent development (last 9 months or so).
There was talk of BD support in Titan but there is no mention in the release notes, changelog or the knowledgebase.
I have a few series including some documentaries in Blu-Ray that I would like to rip to the hard drive but am holding off until this happens. I prefer to keep all my back-ups in standard format with audio commentaries, subtitles etc.

Yah that doesn't work for me. I have like 6 or 7 shows that always stay in the front because they have like 50 unwatched episodes.

I see what your saying that you just pass those up. But thats not what I'm looking for. I'd rather use sort by date then that. At least it will show shows I have added more recently.

I've looked for a secondary sort and the only option I see is by genre/studio/director/actors/etc but I agree it would be nice.

I added a feature request. I don't know if theres a way in the config or something to make it sort by date of the file instead of folder.

What do you mean by DVD folder support? I have been keeping my dvd folders in a separate directory: "TV Shows (DVD Rips)"; and putting my mkvs into: "TV Shows." When I started using Media Browser, I remember there being some reason I couldn't put video_ts folders and mkvs in the same directory. Is it now possible to have both in the same directory, without negative side effects?

You can mix video types now...it was fixed some time ago.

...and DVD folder support has been around since the beginning.

Awesome. That's great news.

Means to rip each individual episode from the disc in its native folder format i.e. VIDEO_TS format.

For movies....Yes; for TV series, I don't believe so.
AFAIK, VIDEO_TS for a TV series was supported only from 2.2.3 onwards.

hi,

just found media browser after messing around with windows media center trying to get TMT5 to work. media browser seems to be doing it decently and I seem to be getting my movie data to come in as long as the folders are movie name (year) and [] around everything else.

question though, if you have sequels and such. like the back to the future triliogy I have in a back to the future trilogy folder and then 3 separate folders for parts 1 2 and 3. It will not get the data. If I move part 1 out to the main folder, the data displays, so I know part 1 is definately named correctly, I have nested folders on, but it won't work. is this just normal, do I have to just put them all separately in the main folder?

and let me apologize in advance I'm sure this is a rediculous question for most of you.

Each movie must be in a separate folder, so it sounds like you have the folder structure correct, but you must make sure the folder names are set up so the scraper can find the movies online. You should have it set up similar to this:

...\\Movies\\Back to the Future Trilogy\\Back to the Future (1985)\\Back to the Future (1985).mkv
...\\Movies\\Back to the Future Trilogy\\Back to the Future II (1989)\\Back to the Future II (1989).mkv
...\\Movies\\Back to the Future Trilogy\\Back to the Future III (1990)\\Back to the Future III (1990).mkv

The MB meta data scaper will get meta data for the movies, but not for the trilogy folder. You will have to download a folder and/or backdrop and place them in the "Back to the Future Trilogy" folder as folder.jpg and backdrop.jpg. Maybe find one here.

If you are still having trouble, get your meta data with something like Media Center Master which will put the meta data and pictures in your movie folders, and rename the folders if it needs to.

it just gets it from the folder name it seems right? at least that is what started them to work on all the others. I tried renaming the trilogy folder, and then the back to the future in the main folder wouldn't come up and neither would the others.

Yes its from the folder name, file name doesn't matter.

Ok so how does MB actually sort? I have all the UFC PPV's. They were all weird order. So I numbered them like this
UFC 001
UFC 002

But it still didn't fix it all the way. Some worked some didn't. Then I noticed in the .xml file that there is a section for So I tried changing that and some still didn't. So I can't figure out what exactly it is that takes priority.

Anyone know?
okay, i think I got it working getting all the pictures coming in now. although I still have a blank picture on the trilogy folder for back to the future, then inside the pictures are filled in. how can I add a picture to that one?

and then tmt5 is launching externally, I got it to launch fullscreen so its decent, just a pain that you have to hit cntl-x to get out of it. but the mediacenter plug in seems to be for crap. i also see no options for vobs or iso so I guess I have to let those play on the standard media center player?

now if my gt430 would get here, I could start shooting this out to my tv.

When I need to get a sort order just right, I use meta to type in the sort field. For example, the Harry Potter movies are all out of order if you sort by title. In meta I set the sort field to Harry Potter 1, Harry Potter 2, etc. and it works for me.

Well I did edit the xml manually but a couple still didn't work. Maybe I need to recheck.

Blame arcsoft to break the option in TMT5 that worked without any issues with TMT3.

TMT5 works just fine for me. The MCE version launches as it should when I am in 7MC. I click Play from MB and TMT5 plays the movie.

can you explain exactly what you are doing?

I think I may have some things confused. Re-reading everything I see you two are talking about MKVs. I do not know about MKVs, as I do not use them at all.

TMT5 auto launces for my BluRay ISOs.

It doesn't seem to have been mentioned in the release notes (they tend to be a bit more brief anyway), but it was listed as one of the issues fixed for Titan: Support File structure formats for TV

Save one of the folder images here into the BTTF folder, and name it 'folder.jpg'. If you want a backdrop, you can also save an image as 'backdrop.jpg'.
