Media Browser: Great alternative to DVD Library/My Movies/Movie Collector - Page 24

I wish they would just add the ability to display the aspect ratio from the meta data, seems the easiest thing to do??

I still use My Movies t0 manage the library, seems the best and most up to date. Puts the Aspect in the meta data also.

Similar behavior, I can use the mouse and work around things. It does happen on some of the other Blu-Ray movies as well (not all). I found that if I chapter up and/or pause/play I can get around it (BTW the sound on the affected movies is also not present until I pause/play).

I don't have to do any of that when playing the same movies thru My Movies. There must be some odd interaction between TMT, VMC, and MB.

I dumped all of MyMovies as fast as I could. The scraper would ocassionally give me double covers, or wrong covers. I would fix them and then it would happen again. I ended up just not using MM. Once I got MB going, I deleted everything about MM. I'm much happier.

I actually have the complete opposite experience... with using MM with MB all my information is much more accurate and easier to manage...

Makes sense. As we can see by the forums, there's no consistent user experience.

How do you do backdrops with MM? I never got too far with my MM experiment before I bagged it. So, I'm not very advanced with MM functionality.

I have never had any issues with My Movies at all, very happy with it. But I like the GUI of MB better, so I still use MM back end.

As far as back drops goes MM doesn't do any thing with them. As long as you have your movie file or folder exactly correct MB will still find the back drop. Or you can copy one in manually.

Just a few things I like about MM for the library.

1) You can enter a sort name to put movies in the correct order, MB really needs this.
2) You can name your movie folder how ever you want, it doesn't rely on the folder name to find data or sort.
3) Look up by UPC, makes it really fast, or it will find it by the disc.
4) monitors the folder for new movies (I don't really use this though)
5) Has the aspect ratio.....
6) Front and back covers

Yeah, that's what I thought. I like MB and the scrapers for that reason. My collection has a folder.jpg and backdrop.jpg file in each movie folder.

Also, I (and my family) didn't like the MM GUI. It was kind of crude looking.

Me too. I still find MM to be the most accurate metadata.

I fill in the backdrops with MetaBrowser.

and

2.39:1 seems to be where most of my movies are at.

hope this helps

Whoever's doing your rips is cropping the video so the frame size looks like 2.40 or whatever. That'll work, as long as you do the cropping and are using something other than straight DVD/BD rips. Those of us with simple ripping methods will have to go another route for this data.

How are you guys getting the aspect ratio and sound bit rate to show up? Does this work for Avis and DVDs or just blu-rays?

OK I broke it
now when i click on mediabrowser i get a blank screen, everything else in mc works just no more mb.

last fiddling i can remember doing was moving things around with mc menu mender. and added a few more movies.

i uninstalled and reinstalled and still no media browser, i will try setting mcmenu mender back to defaults and see if that helps

Someone else had a problem with MB just giving a blue screen. A system restore point fixed it.

Also an update on Metabrowser, the newest version (if kept running) will automatically update movies you add.

After you uninstall you have to delete the Media Browser folder under /ProjectData, then reinstall. The uninstall doesn't remove that folder and if there is a problem in the cache i guess an unistall won't fix it unless you delete the folder.

Turn off the clock and you should get it back.

Its only going to work for certain file types. I have my entire collection ripped to folders (both DVD and BD/HD-DVD) so it doesn't work at all for me.

Quick Question:
Is there an option to show the actual file location of the movie / media file?

i.e. I click on Dark Knight and can see that it lives in C:\\videos\\dark knight\\dk.mkv

Am I overlooking this?

Thanks

On a few movies the backdrop doesn't show up in media browser even though there is a backdrop.jpg file in the folder with the movie. The backdrops are coming from MetaBrowser. Any suggestions on how to fix this??
Was there an update recently?

Before when I played from iso it launched TMT like I set up in the options, but now it offers to use PDVD9 or TMT after I choose play and the iso is mounted. Very cool!

Perhaps it was just the PDVD9 install, but I like the change.

It's fixed. I just cleared the cache and now I have backdrops on all movies.

can someone clear something up for me, i downloaded the version of MB that has the vanilla theme, the latest version of MB doesn't have this theme, what is the difference in the two programs? Does the latest version support the back drops? what is the vanilla theme?
The vanilla theme is a new theme made by the user Throgmorton on the Media Browser forums. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any differences between the two versions, his is simply a branch which includes this new theme. I believe the aim is to include his theme in the next official release anyway, so soon you won't have to mess around with different versions.

I have to close MB to kill the clip. as long as i stay in MB i am fine.

I have this problem playing back MKV's in MB. Due to a bug which means the external player (MPC-HC) won't launch within VMC when trying to playback MKV's, the internal player kicks in. When I press 'stop' on the remote, and select 'done' from the menu, I go back to the MB interface, but then a few seconds later, the movie starts again in the background. Killing it completely is not easy!

Is anyone using PowerDVD 9 with MB? How is working for you with ISO's? What are the config settings you are using?

I am having problems launching ISOs in Mediacenter with PowerDVD9.
I have not run into the issue with mkvs, or any other source. I use TMT as my player for mkv and HDM (VMC plays my standard DVDs), though.

that's my exact problem. it seems to be only with .mkv files.

now im new to this whole thing, what is the reason for external players? i don't have any installed and it seems like all my files, play fine through MB, with the exception of the aforementioned bug. i have the vista codec pak installed, and everything plays great. bluray rips play sound fine too, its true hd but my receiver doesn't do that either.
The restarting of the movie isn't an MB problem. Look around and you'll see it's a media center issue. I've had the same restart thing going on well before I installed MB.

There's a thread on here that discusses the issue in detail.

I have MB configured to mount with VCD and use autoplay, which in TMT

when I click play on an iso, I'm taken to another screen where I can choose TMT or PDVD 9 as the player

it did that all by itself; I never changed any configuration

also, for those having the blank screen problem, there's no need to re-install I think

just go into the users folder and delete everything MB you can find and it will ask you to do initial set-up the next time you launch it
