I have folder.jpg in place. That works on the main screen where all the movies are listed. Once I select a movie, which is in VOB files in VIDEO_TS, on that movies screen, I get nothing EXCEPT the blue "film reel" icon showing my VIDEO_TS folder, and if I click on that, I go straight into the movie.

I am using salami, which generates a mymovies.xml in each folder. I've got no problems with getting cover art, that was one of the first things I sorted myself.

There is DEFINITELY stuff in the XML file: i've opened it in notepad and checked. Perhaps it's a question of the xml file being unreadable?

It might help if I post a screen grab of mediabrowser not displaying stuff, and the content of one of the xmls, I guess. Or I could try meta browser.

Just to clarify, mike, you mention an MKV file, and I have NO problem with my MKVs or AVIs AT ALL, only straight VOB rips into VIDEO_TS folders.

Did you try clearing your cache?

*nod*

I'll try again.

no i heard about video_TS folder, i was using the mkv as an example.

i have that problem too but only if there is only ONE movie in the directory.

if i add another movies, not just a folder, all the data will show up.

Alo what version are you using, i remember this being a problem with one the versions that i used, and i switched the myMovies for a while because of it. I have the latest throgmorton version installed and i have no problems with my video_ts folders

Ah ha! Now you might have hit on something.
I'm using Throg 730, I think, if that has a configurator. And I pointed the configurator at each movie folder INDIVIDUALLY (took ages). Perhaps I should retry it pointing it just at j:/movies/ instead of at j:/movies/alien, j:/movie/aliens etc.
I'll try that tonight.

That's your problem. You need to back up and and just reference j:/movie.

All of my content (dvd, bd, hddvd) is in folder structures and they work just fine (although, no "mediainfo" for them).

Hurrah! So it was my own fault for being too clever! or too dumb! Or something!

Can barely restrain myself from running home now and putting it right.

Update tomorrow.
I have a dumb question along these line, i posted it earlier but it ever got answered, where in the latest throgmorton build do you point to the search directory? it either got the directory from a previous install or its asked me when i set it up (i can't remember, the initial install was a blur), but there is nothing in my start menu, and i can't find a setting for it in MB now.

it points to right one, but i was just wondering for future reference.

I did a file compare on the original MediaBrowserXml.config and the file that was recreated after running the configuration tool. There appear to be only a few entries that are different.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Config File as it looks AFTER running the config tool on a working system
With this config file, the Media Browser hung on startup, and generated
the huge log file as shown in the original post -- repeating same info
over and over infinitely (until I killed the VMC app) like its stuck in a loop
------------------------------------------------------------------------
true
C:\\ProgramData\\MediaBrowser\\StartupFolder

true
Small

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Config file as it looks after renaming the file that was causing the problems
When Media Browser starts, it goes through initialization procedures
and then everything works fine.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
false
MyVideos
false
false
Default

I would guess that the root cause of this experience lies in the differences with
MyVideos
C:\\ProgramData\\MediaBrowser\\StartupFolder

I will try to change just this parameter next and see if same behaviour occurs.

BTW, I am using shortcuts in the My Videos folder to all the directories (8 of them) that contain my media. Perhaps the combination of these shortcuts with the .vf files in the "C:\\ProgramData\\MediaBrowser\\StartupFolder" directory drive it crazy?

ksarauer,

You may want to head over to the Media Browser forums, they will be much greater help I assure you.

Here is what I have...
MyVideos
I have the .vf files in the MyVideos folder.
Also, I'm not sure if it's an issue or not, but I believe the image and folder needs to be all lower case in the .vf folder. The UNC path can be any case.

I don't know which item is responsible, but I can no longer get HA to work. I used to be able to turn off the codec in ffdshow and then run VMC and HA would work. Now, if I turn off the codec in ffdshow, VMC crashes.

The last time it worked was prior to my installation of media browser. Since installing media browser, I haven't tried HA until today. In the interim, I installed media browser, installed media control and the required version of ffdshow, installed the media information dll and now uninstalled the official MB and put in Throgmorton's.

lol, only God knows where things went wrong. Oh well, luckily I don't need HA.

Thanks for the feedback;; but I dont think that it is a case sensitivity problem.

From what I can see, the issue is related to the directive in the config file for the initial folder. When I change it back to myvideos, it works properly. could also be that deleting the cache would get it working properly too...

perhaps there is an exception generated on the matching of the file name in the cache with the full path it was found in or something like that which could be caught and instead of raising the exception, just purge the entry in the cache and write the new one.....

I encountered nearly the same problem tonight when doing a version upgrade to MB to try out the new vanilla theme.... but this time the only way to get it working was to empty the cache completely.

thanks

Ok, I think I've got a weird one here.

I just started using vmc a couple days ago. I downloaded mb yesterday and installed it. Using dvdshrink to rip individual episodes of the office season 2. putting each episode into it's own folder. Then I use vob2mpg to convert. The mpg will not play in vmc using mb to browse to the file. It plays the first 10-20 seconds then hangs or it comes up and says it's done playing.

Windows media player plays it fine. If I open the mpg with vmc it plays fine. I can't figure this out.

Appreciate any help!
Hurrah! It worked magnificently! Have now used some awesome icon/ genre/ actor packs I found somewhere and the whole thing is fantastic. Cannot believe some of the obscure programs that it is getting details for (Sledge Hammer, Street Hawk, Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors). Having a bit of touble with the various Star Gates and Star Treks, but I think that's a question of naming the folder correctly. Stargate SG-1 instead of Stargate SG1 for example.

Thanks for the help, peoples.

OK i wanted to play around with the R783 build so i installed it on another vista machine and created a HD folder in the c:\\ and in there i have vf files pointing back to my main htpc. i like the it has a backend configuration but it is limited.

some of the issues that i have:
1) why can't i get my first main page to be where my categories are located like it does on my living room htpc? when i click on mb it shows me HD

i would like it to take me here when i click on mb in vmc

2) why can't i change the views? when i click on movies, i don't have the tool icon to switch around the view i just have it on the first HD screen and that is it.

thanks
Strange. I don't have that problem. Mine looks and acts exactly like the official MB. I couldn't tell any difference until I enabled the Vanilla screen.

I believe you need to set up each "folder" as a share.. You prolly have HD mapped and then all of the other "folders" as sources.. I think they all need to be their own source.. At least that's how I set mine up..

I'm using the "standard" 2.09 release..

You obviously have the "Vanilla" theme turned on. IMO this is more than a "theme" or a skin. It completely changes the behaviour of MB to the point where it is a different interface.

You have two options on doing what you want. One, you can go to the config page and, under Vanilla Options choose "show config button" or whatever it is. That will show the wrench on all the screens.

OR, you can use the "*" key to toggle through the various available views while on the screen you want to change.

i was using the 2.09 release but i wanted to play with the vanilla theme on another machine. HD is not mapped it is a folder i created local on the c:\\ the contents are the .vf files for the folder which you see in the second pic, i just can't seem to figure out why it goes to the HD folder and not directly to where the listed folders from the second pic are.

Ok "sow config button" is what i was looking for, i must have over looked it somewhere. i will give it another shot.

Interesting... I didn't realize that's how the vfs were even suppose to work, so I just created the individual links..

you know when i first started using MB for the second time ( started using it again when this thread emerged) i use to make shortcuts from my sources to the main videos folder until i realizd (with the help of forum members) that i wasn't able to get my covers to display properly. they all came out the way my HD folder looks, in media browser. when i started to create VF files my images began to work, and i have a slew of shortcut folders in one directory.
I have a quick question, where or how do setup your intro movie so that i gets to run every time you start up a movie ?.

Interesting... I have a few movies that are like that (no art when I believe it exists), but I only have 1 location for each type:

HD Movies
TV Shows
DVD Movies

I chose to use Genres to get the things like:

Kids Movies
Exercise

etc. etc..

Good to know.. Maybe I'll play around with it on a different machine.. (read the one the wife doesn't use)

As of right now it's not possible. Unless you put a copy of it in every movie folder and name it part1 and then the movie part2 (will play like multipart movies).

I think they're working on this though. Check out www.mediabrowser.tv. There's a thread on this there.

you know, i started off with just a few, but genres view never truely worked for me i had movies placed in the wrong genre so i decided to create the separate folders for the most commonly used typed.

play around with the VF it is not so bad once you start messing with it.

MoNkLorD, Are you not liking my "TV" or "Music" icons??

**EDIT** Crap!! Holidays is smaller too. Boy do I have my work cut out for me.

hahah yeah man i am in love with the icons. the whole family thanks you for them.
I noticed that the docs and holidays came out a bit smaller but i wasn't sure if it was my rig or what... on the download thread they all look to be the same size so i didn't sweat it....beggers can't be choicers

TV, and Music i have just been too lazy to go back and change but i will do that over the weekend.....Hmmm what do you think you can do about sports? can you add some wresting and UFC to spice it up for my boys ;..

I also like the vanilla theme as well. i hope that it will get intergrated so i don't have to keep following 2 different download updates.
There has been confirmation by one of the DEV's over in the MB forums that vanilla will be integrated into the next public release.

I planned on making a "Sports" icon when I get home tonight. I'll throw in a wrestler, UFC themed one for your kids. I'll also be fixing the small icons. I know exactly where I went wrong. It was also brought up over in the MB forum too, so its not your rig.

Thanks for all the support guys!!

**UPDATE** The next public release of Media Browser will be available in the next day or two, with the Vanilla theme.
