Yes, I am sure I would notice a slight improvement. It's just not worth $27.00 to me. Standard version is more than adequate. Actually, many of the younger generation have no interest in viewing a black & white movie. I doubt that DTESS will sell very many copies in Blu Ray, time will tell.

Slight improvment?!?
I guess all BD:s are just THAT then

Before you brag about your calibrated set that magically makes a mediocre DVD transfer into gold you should check out the BD before you judge it as a SLIGHT improvment

I'm making damn sure that my grandkids watch every black and white sci-fi/ horror film in my collection!

I want them to appreciate that if it wasn't for those b&w's, we wouldn't have a lot of this trash today...case in point...the "NEW" "The Day the Earth Stood Still!!"

Not to many remakes are better than the originals!!!

Edit: Just last month, I had the grandkids sit down for an afternoon movie marathon (popcorn included) of all the "Creature from the Black Lagoon" movies and they had a blast. Ages are 7, 10 and 12. They can't wait for the next marathon of the King Kongs...King Kong, Son of and Mighty Joe Young!!!

I'm doing my part to make the younger generation appreciate that b&ws are the foundation of todays films. Sure, some of the Zs are pretty bad...but they're still great!!! And I have not hesitated to show my grandkids them..."Plan 9 from Outer Space!!!"

I am not bragging about any calibrated tv set. I am telling you that an enhanced version of DayThe Earth Stood Still is not worth $27.00 to me. If I had to pick a 1950's science fiction program that deserved enhancement it would be "Forbidden Planet". At least there you have Color/Cinemascope and a marvelous electronic sound track to work with. And yes, I do have the HD version of Forbidden Planet.

I finally watched The Day the Earth Stood Still (on BLuRay) last night. It looked great. I have a 4:3 projector and 4:3 screen. I bought this combo primarily for viewing older 4:3 movies available in HD, BluRay and regular DVD.

At first my Sony BDPs300 would not play TDTESS. I couldn't get past the movie's menu. The same happened with Young Frankenstein (BD) as well. Anyway, I loaded the 4.4 firmware and now TDTESS will play, however, it won't fill my whole 4:3 screen. My HD copies of Casablanca and Adventures of Robin Hood (Errol Flynn) will fill the whole screen. Can anyone confirm whether TDTESS is encoded 4:3 inside a 16:9 window? I have my projector set the 4:3 as well as my BluRay player, but can only view 4:3 in a 16:9 window. This has also happened with a couple of Bob Hope HD double bills: Road to Rio/Road to Bali and My Favorite Brunette/Son of Paleface. I look forward to hearing a few replys. Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone at this great forum.
