Monoprice HDMI switch-Xbox 360 problem...

Hi all. I'm having some issue with my new 4-1 HDMI switch from monoprice. STFA and couldn't find anything on this to help.

I bought the 4-1 powered 1.3a HDMI switch from monoprice. Hooked in my Xbox 360, DirecTV HD receiver, and an HD-DVD player. No matter what I do, or what I plug/unplug, I cannot get the Xbox image on the screen so stop lagging. Or sometimes it won't even show up.

I'm running all of this to a Samsung A750 by the way.

Plugged in directly all the individual components work fine. Obviously it's a switch issue right? Is this a flaw in that switch, or is it defective? Am I missing something else? Can the current switches not hand the refresh rates of a 120hz screen?

Please help

I can't answer your other questions, but no DVD/Bluray player or gaming system sends a 120hz signal, that's all internal to the TV.

This I know. I was referring to the refresh rate of the screen needing the information sent faster to it from the source. In other words, the switch is causing some slow-down, therefore on a 120hz screen-refresh it is more noticeable than a 'standard' screen. If that makes sense. I think I've gone cross-eyed.

What is the total length of all the HDMI cables going into the HDMI switch? It shouldn't be over 10-15' total for best results (the exact spec. may be listed in the included print material with the switch or on monoprice's website somewhere for your particular switch). I have one cable going through a wall into another room that barely fits. I only need two more feet to make the connection not so tight. However, if I use a longer HDMI cable, the image drops out, turns purple and/or static. Using the 2' smaller cable displays everthing fine. Someone looking at the problem differently may have thought it was my display, source, HDCP or something else when in fact it was just the cable length. Can't say that's what you have be it wouldn't hurt to try or try a completely different HDMI cable all together.

If you use a 120hz HDTV, you need to disable the 120hz features for use with gaming consoles. This may seen counter-intuitive, but the way the HDTV generates the 120hz signal is by taking two frames of video and generating an interpolated image in between the frames. In order to do this, it holds two incoming (60hz) frames in memory, so you're always watching "old frames". You need to turn this functionality off in the TV, and any other frame processing such as de-interlacing / reverse telecine ("CineMotion").

As far as the image not coming up... The switch must be set to the Xbox 360 when it's turned on, and the TV needs to be turned on at that time too. Otherwise, you can have handshaking issues over the HDMI connection because the Xbox 360 can't find the HDTV to negotiate with.

No, a 120hz TV doesn't need any different or higher quality cable.

Slordak's post is the right answer -- turn on game mode, which disables motion interpolation and clears up lag problems.

If he just means there's some lag in response then it does sound like AMP, but the last part I've highlighted makes it sound like a bum switch or HDMI handshake issues.

If the picture doesn't show up at all it definitely sounds like an HDCP handshake issue, which is probably related to the HDMI switch. However, I don't think a switch can add lag. It just isn't possible. The lag and the probable HDCP problems are not related.

try all combinations possible.

turn tv on then xbox then reciever or xbox, tv, receiver etc
handshake issue.

I had a 4x2 HDMI switch from them that worked great until one of the outputs stopped working. They replaced it with a newer model and suddenly my PS3 didn't work with my projector through the switch (though it worked fine with my TV, and all other components worked fine). Compatibility with these things just seems to be luck of the draw. They're sending me a replacement just like my old one now. They really have great customers service, so if you are unable to get it working I'm sure you could talk to them.

I know this thread is a little old, but I came across it while doing a Google search. I had similar issues with my 4x1 switch(es)... you can read more on that here. To sum it up, just because a device doesn't work properly with the switch doesn't make the switch defective; sometimes just moving the device to a different port can fix the problem, while other times the connected device and the switch just aren't compatible.

Before I got my AVR and even now I have to turn it to the xbox 360 input and then turn the 360 on LAST....or it wont show up.

I've found this to be true also. To me, it seeems once you turn on the Xbox 360, there is a small window in which it is checking the connected display and you better have everything ready.

You sir are correct! when I was turning my 360 on first it would just keep flashing the green light and then I would get 1 red light, after I got the combo down I havent had a problem

I have this same problem, with

Samsung HL67A750
DirecTV HR21
Apple TV
Sony PS3
XBox 360 Elite

I was going to add the HR21 and PS3 to the TV directly, and use the Monoprice for the AppleTV and XBox 360. I gave up trying to get the XBox to handshake, so ended up putting the HR21 and AppleTV on the switch. The PS3 is dedicated to watching movies and has its own settings on the TV so it always gets a dedicated HDMI port.

F*^%#n' evil DRM/HDCP crap. It never fails to piss me off.

When using a switch with your gaming consoles have you noticed if it creates any in game lag? What I mean is a delay in the game picture on the screen since the signal has to go through the switch?

I've used about a half-dozen monoprice and other HDMI switches (mainly 4x1, matrix 4x2 and 2x1) and have never experienced lag on any connected HDTVs.

No lag on my 4x1 HDMI switch.

I've read most of the post in this thread, and I'm in our brother from Selma, Al. on this issue. Again; What is the total length of the HDMI connection? It sounds like the connections are too long.
