Newbie advice needed re buying an older HK receiver

Hi, I'm new here--indeed, this is my first post. I have been planning to take the plunge into HDTV, home theater, etc. in the near future. A friend has offered to sell me an HK AVR 230 receiver for a couple of hundred bucks (along with Eosone RSF-400 tower speakers and center speaker for $100). They would like to get rid of this stuff and may take much less (though I don't want to "rob" them). My question is whether this makes any sense whatsoever given that the receiver lacks all of the newer goodies--HDMI, etc. Am I much smarter putting my $200 toward something new? Will I be kicking myself badly once I have the new TV and Blu-ray player and find myself badly limited? On the other hand, is this a decent "starter" option, given that I'm going to be broke once I plunk down for the HDTV? Thanks.

Sounds a bit overpriced to me. You should check the H/K refurbs that are fully warranted for 2 yrs direct from H/K at harmanaudio.com (specials) or the H/K eBay store.
