Help with Onkyo remote controlling Direct Tv

I just got Direct TV hooked up today and I can't figure out which code I need to get my Onkyo 605 remote to control my Direct TV

The only oem remotes with a preset code for the current line of directv receivers are only made by UEI, and if your oem remote were made by UEI the code would be either SAT 1377 or 01377.

Edmund, I have a URC-8820, does it have either of these codes for DirecTV receivers or is it only specific UEI remotes that'll work?

Sorry but no. The 8820 and others in that series of remotes are over 3 years old, unversal remotes didn't show up with a code until sometime in 2006.

Vin,

You may want consider getting a JP1.2 cable. Then you could add the DirecTV code and program the 8820 from your PC.

A couple of current UEI remotes with the built-in code are the Radio Shack 15-100, 133, 134 and 135 and the Atlas OCAP 1056 (cheap and plentiful on ebay at the moment). The 15-100 and 133 are backlit and are 8-device like your 8820, the 135 is 7-device, and the 134 and Atlas are 5-device. The 134 also has colored buttons like the DirecTV remote. These are also programmable from your PC with the same cable as above (except the 15-100).

Thanks guys, I'm considering the URC R6 which, if I'm not mistaken, also has the DirecTV codes...BB has it for $20.

FYI, the 134 is on sale for $10 at the moment. But that R6 is nice. Bigger buttons, backlight, etc.

Yes the R6 has preset code for the current directv receivers set to IR and the default IR codeset 00001, which is SAT code 173.

Yep, saw that this morning but decided against it because of the small buttons....$10 is a steal though.

My wife and daughter were comfortable controlling the living room HT with the 8820 but I replaced my HR10-250 DTiVo with an HR22 yesterday so I'm looking for a comparable (cost and funtionality) replacement. I have some Reward Zone Certificates so I think I'll give the R6 a shot....thanks again guys.

Vin, if you want backlighting, go to Walmart and try out the WR7.
