Moxi HD DVR - Page 90

I am having a issue with my Moxi Mate. 2 days ago I tried to watch TV and see a message that it cannot find the main DVR. I rebooted my main DVR and then rebooted the Mate. Afterward it came up fine but now I do not get any audio. I have the Mate connected via HDMI to a Sony Receiver (STR DH700) and then HDMI to my Sony TV (KDL-46EX500). Other devices work fine with the receiver via HDMI. I tried a different cable, a different port on the receiver, and resetting everything again to no avail. I have audio output set to DD on the Mate, but I don't get any audio regardless of the setting. The funny thing is when I first boot the Mate, the receiver indicates it is getting a PCM audio stream but when I go to watch a live channel it goes away. Video works fine the entire time.

If I hook up the Mate directly to the TV via HDMI I do get audio, which is puzzling. I guess it's possible there is something wrong with the receiver but why do other devices work?

I opened up a case with support, they are having the engineer team review the logs. In the meantime, they suggest I use the component connections for audio.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

The WD Green AV hard drives adjust the spin speed down to conserve power, and they park the heads. But you'd have to think that since the Moxi never stops caching channels (even when watching recorded shows), the hard drive would never lower the spin speed or park the heads. (Am I wrong here?)

I have been using a Western Digital 2 TB AV-GP SATA Intellipower Hard Drive WD20EVDS as my expansion drive on my Moxi for about three weeks now and haven't had any problems other than a few pauses here and there. The drive sounds like it is always on and I know its being used as the internal drive was full when I added it. I read about the Tivo problems with this drive and the Moxi seems to be fine without disabling the intellipark feature.

The Moxi HD DVR that this thread is about is not a cable company provided box, it's purchased retail. There are some cable companies that do offer Moxi boxes to their customers.

I see few if any TiVo ads as well. I think Moxi is wise to try and keep distribution limited until the "...I think it should do this..." type of comment in forums such as this decrease. Their software engineers have their hands full as it is.

Thanks, Toille27. That is good to know since I ordered the 1 terabyte model of this drive.

Tivo Ads pop up everywhere I go on the internet including this site...........There is one at the top of this very page (Targeted Ad I Assume) here at AVS.

A Viral YouTube Ad for the Moxi would be good to. Maybe they could team up with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg to create a "Digital Short".

TiVo is currently on a huge advertising tear. Big advertising on the Howard Stern Show on Sirius, as well. They started this big advertising push right after the new model was released.

Hopefully this will actually gain momentum, Good news for me and my SDV.

The inquiry asks for comment on developing an interface device in the home for "all consumer devices," which the FCC says will achieve four key goals:
1) Spur investment and innovation in the market for retail devices that work with any pay TV service;
2) Allow providers to innovate and compete in offering services without requiring consumers to switch devices;
3) Generate more competition and consumer choice; and
4) Encourage wider broadband use and adoption.

They're going after those 14 Sirius customers, are they?

Hopefully Cox S.D. will hold off on SDV until this is straightened out.

OT a bit - How can Cox need 96 SDV channels in PHX (a SA/Cisco market) and none in SD also a SA/Cisco market? I don't believe they use SDV in Las Vegas either.
Let me apologize in advance if this has been discussed/answered earlier in the thread, but my search attempts came up with nothing. For the second time in the last week, I turned on my TV last night and pressed the Moxi button to go the channel guide and got.... nothing. The picture appeared normally in the upper right corner, but the rest of the screen showed the dark blue background with nothing else on it. No amount of button pressing would call up the guide or the Moxi menu - including my recorded shows. Using the Zoom button did return me to the full Live TV picture, with the banner across the bottom of the screen, which did contain all the regular info. I could change channels by entering the channel number manually, or by pressing the channel up/down buttons, but still could not access the guide, Moxi menu, or recorded shows. Only a reset from the front of the box returned the Moxi to normal.

Any ideas?

I suspect it may not be simply numbers... there can be "other" stuff going on. My market has a HUGE amount of bandwidth, we have something like 120 HD channels AND space for maybe another 10.... yet we are going SDV for a total of 241 channels, 76 are HD ones.

So it SEEMS they don't need to do this... but then again we really don't know WHY, it's all speculation at this point.

I cannot believe Moxi engineers still have not fixed this software bug. I promise, I reported it to them a long time ago. I was assured by Customer Care that the engineers would fix this bug in a software update.

I urge everyone that experiences this problem to report it to Customer Care, either via phone or through their Website. This will be the only way they get pressure to fix it.

geodon005,

This is a known issue with the Moxi menu disappearing. Moxi has documented it and a fix will be released for it.

With all fixes, Moxi needs to make sure it does not break anything else. It probably needs to be fully tested before it is released.

Here is the fix for it that was previously posted so you do not need to do a reboot when you encounter this problem.

-Go to the Recorded TV menu (if not already on it, press [moxi logo] x1)
-Although you can't see it, it's sitting on the first recorded program (or folder). The key is to bring up the "see all times" menu for one of them. Press OK once. If it only brings up "close" (for example, if on a recorded folder from another Moxi DVR), press UP and try again. Keep going until you see a "see all times" menu option appear.
- Select "see all times".
- Now press the MOXI key. This should return you to the now-visible Moxi Menu.

Good news is my 2nd 3 tuner arrived, now I have to schedule a card install.

Bad news we had a system reboot last night when we had Modern Family paused. It went through the disk check routine. We lost the paused show but all the recorded ones were still there. Kaye would not of been happy!

Should I do anything like send the log in?

Man, you fellas need an invite to a private TV site. haha.

Worried about losing recordings and such, I mean yeah it is an inconvenience, but not the end of the world. Plus any of the TV Series I actually care about or enjoy enough, I have them archived on a hard-drive. Full dvd-rips without any commercials or fastforwarding.

If I miss a recording, oh well, I'll just grab it off the net.

That is a great idea other then the small fact it is illegal and not all of us have that kind of bandwidth and or time. Thanks though.

Nobody said it's the end of the world. And you really need to keep things in perspective when we are reporting/complaining our programs were lost due to a hard drive crash.

The two times I lost recordings after a crash, Moxi engineers confirmed I had a bad hard drive both times. They paid to have my Moxis returned and sent me out new ones. That is an inconvenience that should make someone upset. Cables need to be unplugged. The device needs to be boxed up. If one has a CableCard, it's a pain to have to get all that set up again.

But, if you just want to concentrate on the lost recordings only: Sure you can watch some of the lost recordings online (not all of them, though). But there is a huge difference between watching them on one's small computer screen and on one's nice big TV. Again, not a big deal compared to a lot of crap in the world, but still a bit upsetting.

Try finding "Cold Case' when CBS delays the start because of sports.

I was just stating an observation, and my personal solution. Take it for what it's worth, which may not be much, that's up to you. I definitely understand the frustration.

As far as my recordings, I watch all of my movies, tv shows, etc, etc... on my TV. You can do that from your Moxi ...

DVD? I stopped messing with those 5 years ago. They look like crap.

has there been any new info on when Moxi plans on adding transfers of recordings to a PC for permanent storage?

You should be able to pull the last 5 Modern Family shows off of hulu on you Moxi. If you don't mind watching it on the web, you can go to the abc.go.com website and watch the videos in High Def on your computer.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask my two questions; I got the link from TiVO Community.

My AT&T Series II is 5 years old and I'm researching what to do when it dies. I was all set to replace it with the TiVO Premier XL but then read about Moxi.

Two big considerations I have about TiVO is the fact that they are adding more and more ads and pop ups. This subliminal stuff bothers me greatly. TiVO users are willing to put up with this trend. My question: Does Moxi slip in ads?

The main reason I have TiVO and not our TWC DVR is because the TWC DVR TV guide is not customizable. One cannot delete from the guide certain stations such as Home Shopping or Sports or the Religious channels, so one must continually scroll past those. My question: Can one customize Moxi's TV Guide?

Ideally, I'd love to hear from someone who has switched from TIVO to Moxi to if theire's a TiVO feature I might really miss if I got a Moxi.

Thanks,

Kerry

iKerry,

Moxi does not have ads anywhere on their menus. Yes you can edit your channel list so Moxi only display the channels you want to see. I hide my TLN QVC, HSN, among many others..

Hope this helps.

question... any with a Moxi and Mate AND have CableVision? I know with TiVo CableVision flags many of the channels as copy protected thus you can't use MRV. With a Moxi + Mate since it doesn't actually transfer/copy the show rather streams it does it work around the copy protect flag?

thanks

I don't have Cablevision, but yes..you are correct. The copy protect flags aren't an issue because Moxi streams instead of copies.
