The built in web browser on the Moxi does not support flash.

And likely never will, because it's a dead-end product now. If the disappearance of Moxi Guy, lack of official forums (that were promised), and lack of updates in over a year is not a hint, I don't know what is.

So is Flash.

I actually had the Moxi 2-room bundle for a week. Never got to see it in action since when the Verizon guy finally arrived to install the cable card, he brought the new DVR boxes with him. SO I packed up the Moxi and sent it back thinking the Fios DVR was the better deal. After almost a year, I have second thoughts. I pay $50 a month for DVR rental and really like the idea of the Moxi. After reading all of the posts about kooky interface, spotty IR reception, and almost certain hard drive replacement after 12-18 months, I would still do it. The price is a huge hurdle to overcome with all of the unknowns about with their plans are for the future though.

I purchased the Revue when it first came out, and connected to my Moxi. Initially, all was well with my Samsung TV + Moxi + Revue. In fact, fantastic!

However, I soon discovered a problem - if the TV was off, all future recordings were corrupted, in that there was a pause every few seconds when watching a recorded program later.

After some communication with Moxi and Logitech, I determined that the HDMI/HDCP handshake was the culprit.

When the TV was on, recordings were fine.

If the TV was off as is typically done for most planned recordings, the Revue attempted to confirm HDMI/HDCP handshake, and eventually errored out. The Moxi was unable to process the errors, and the recordings had a periodic skip in the recording that was quite noticeable.

If I turned on the TV and then did a recording, all was fine.

This testing was done back in December/January, and I have not done any testing since then. As there have been updates, it would be worthwhile to see if anything has changed. After discovering the problem, I connected the Revue to my FiOS 6416 DVR, and have had no further issues. What is nice about the 6416 is that the SD video out, component video out, and HDMI video out are all active at the same time, so I have all outputs in use at the same time. The Moxi cannot have the HDMI and component outputs active at the same time.

Mike

Can you comment any further on whether or not recording with your Moxi (with Revue connected) works?

Thanks
Skid

I would really appreciate that review. I'm extremely interested. Recordings not happening while the TV isn't on is a deal-breaker.

Are you having any issues with your Moxi recording while the Revue is connected (without the TV on?)

Very interested in a detailed review if you have the time.
Look forward to your answers.

$ 50 - 4 (cable card rental ) / month equals $ 552 / year so you can figure out your break even point is. I am using a 3 room moxi bundle with FIOS and it works well. I think my break even point was around 18 months which I am getting close to. I use a Logitech Harmony 880 with the DVR which works pretty well. If you can live with the very good chance of no future updates, I would say get it.

Need some help guys.

The 4 finger press always seems to endup with the amber light flashing.

I am plugging the power in and then quickly holding down the 4 directional arrows for 25 seconds each time. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Does the four finger press still work???
make sure the ethernet is still plugged in.
Ethernet is plugged in, external hard drive is out, coax cable is coming in, cable card is in

I have a 3 tuner I bought in December 2010...

Maybe I should reset my router?

No I have no issues with the Moxi recording when the Revue is connected and the TV off or on. I have it for two weeks and it is worth the $99 dollars.

Yes, I would reset the router. If you have another router I would try a new one as well. Do you have a direct connection to the router?

Got it working. Had to go straight through the fios router and not my dir655 first.

On a side note, this samsung drive is DEFINITELY llouder than the stock drive, but now I have 3.5 TB of storage total

Great news. Moxi can be very picky in terms of routers and needing direct connection for the 4 fp HD reinstall. Are all your previous problems gone l? Please also update the HD replacement thread

Update: Could not copy the 500GB Moxi original hard drive. Tried Clonezilla and extfsd and could not see any data.

Ended up using the 4-finger press to update the new 1TB Seagate I purchased. All worked well. Had to have Comcast pair the Cable Card again...but it only took about 10 mins with them.
cool. good for you! moxi had sent me an email stating my warranty or whatever was cancelled. it may be because i had called them about it. it was @ the 14 month mark anyway. did they detect your hdd replacement yet?
They did not detect mine yet but my Moxi 3 tuner is at the 20 month mark anyway...

It has been running pretty good since the replacement. Side note, I reworked some of my home network and removed the FiOs router all together from the picture! Everything is running great now!

That is not actually what's happening, it's still being controlled by IR - the Revue has two blasters on the corners. They function whether or not the external one that comes in the box is connected.

well, it's been a few months since I checked this thread and sad to see not much is shaking although I suspected as much.

I'm not happy about the lack of support but giving up on the hacky DLNA/PlayOn stuff and using other devices for that instead has definitely reduced my frustration. As a DVR, the Moxi has mostly been working well, I actually picked up a 3rd mate cheap on ebay, and the whole setup is probably close to paying for itself vs the $15/room/mo cable co. "solution". So, I guess it is what it is - definitely a lot of wasted potential but I've made my peace with it.

I've been a Tivo user for 9 years. Always watched Moxi and been curious. My drive died in my tivo hd, rather than replacing it or upgrading to a premiere I'm thinking about getting a Moxi. I'm tired of Tivo, but this thread has worried me a little. Is there really no future or roadmap for Moxi? Is it worth the risk or should I just stay with Tivo and get a new premiere or hard drive in my HD?

I watched Moxi and this thread for nearly 18 months. And Last month I decided to purchase 2 TiVo Premieres. So far I have been happy with the Premiere. My two biggest complaints are that the menus past TiVo central do not have a Video window and are not HDUI menus. But ongoing software updates and a future update to include streaming was the deciding factor for me.

J & R Music has the TiVo Premiere right now for $59/ea free shipping. Today is the last day. This is where I purchased mine last month also for $59. I heard that J & R Music often runs this special at the end of every month. But you could easily replace your TiVoHD hard drive. As a current TiVo customer you also have the MSD option for lifetime service @ $399.

Thanks Bryan, I appreciate it. I guess I'm just annoyed with Tivo is part of the issue, but having 3 tuners is almost a must in my household now. Also, I haven't read good things about the new HDUI. I've been grandfathered in to the old pricing, it seems that if I upgrade I'll have to pay more per month now too.

The streaming from Moxi to its Mate definitely had me intrigued because it bypassed the issue of Cox not allowing us to transfer shows because of copy right inbetween Tivos. Now that you have two, are you able to copy all shows in between or just a select?

Does someone know the last time Moxi actually got an update? What is the frequency of them?

Here, this will clue you in:

And no, Moxi isn't just "pining for the fjords" .
HA!

Does everyone else share this sentiment? If so, guess I'll have to stay with Tivo then.

So much potential, but nothing has happened since I got mine over a year ago, figured it was just a matter of time when I purchased it that we'd start getting little goodies, but can't think of any feature that have been added since I got mine. I wish I'd have gotten a Tivo instead, but figured the Moxi would work out better in the long run, but I'm now seriously doubting it will ever get anything added or even updated.
