Resistance 1 or Resistance 2 for New PS3 Owner

Hello,

My brothers are getting a PS3 for Christmas and they're into shooters...I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on which Resistance would be better for them. I've read a few luke warm reviews of 2 so I'm not sure if its worth the extra money. They are mostly into multiplayer so whichever is better on multiplayer online would probably be best. Thanks a lot for your input!

2 is better online, IMO. Especially with the co-op stuff.

But honestly, if they are shooter fans, I can think of about three other shooters better than Resistance. /ducks

I already got them CoD4 which I think is the best shooter ever made. What are the other 2?

COD4 wasn't one of them, actually

SOCOM, Battlefield, and Rainbow Six Vegas (in that order).

So the first Rainbow Six Vegas is better than the 2nd?...I was considering that one too.

Well, they are pretty much the same. I'd say the second is better though. Likely has more people playing it, too. But for me, that game was all about co-op Terrorist Hunt with a friend.

Id actually say COD5 and Resistance 2 just because they'll still find a lot of people online with both. Resistance 2 is fun....part one online was fun too though, but yeah just get them part 2 with co-op and the fact that lots of people are playing it now.

I've been staying away from CoD5 because I like modern weapons better and it wasn't done by the same guys as CoD4. The guys who did CoD4 are doing CoD6, right? Now that's gonna be a game! I think I'm gonna end up shooting for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Resistance 2 (They're twins so I need to get 2) I'm gonna have to pay retail for these, I guess...I alread got them a copy of Far Cry 2 for 26 bucks (and a copy for myself ) And 2 $5 Nokia guitars. Man, amazon.com is hookin up the gamers this season. Wish I had picked up LBP for 40....

Both are worth playing, but 2 is going to be more active online. They both have great SP campaigns.

I would not say R2 has "luke warm reviews" unless you consider games like L4D, Fable 2, Dead Space, etc. as well, all are averaging withing +/-0.2/10 of R2.

Battlefield: Bad Company is one fun game.

Got it in June and am still playing it with a few AVS-ers.

I agree with Tez on Battlefield and SOCOM. Wouldn't put any of the COD games on the list. Never played Rainbow Six.

PS
Buy them a gift card so that they can reserve Killzone 2. According to many, it's the best game EVAH and it hasn't even hit stores yet.

Resistance 2. The online play is miles better than Resistance 1. Skirmish mode is awesome. Cooperative mode is awesome.

WARHAWK BABY! Tons of people online and up to 4 player split screen.

Have the Resistance 2 network issues been resolved?

IMO, very much so. I occasionally get some delay getting into a Co-Op game, but I think that is more likely due to multiple people trying to get the same slot than it is network issues.

Campaign wise, I enjoyed 1 far more than 2 but since you say they're mainly online gamers 2 will definitely be easier to find a game in

Come on Matzira just give it up. It was funny the first couple of times, but this is genuinely looking for some games.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I think I'm gonna grab Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Resistance 2 and Warhawk. 4 player split screen is awesome, and its pretty old so it shouldn't cost too much.

BTW Killzone 2 is definitely on the radar. I'm not even that into shooters and I'm planning on getting it.

I'm getting Valkyria Chonicles and PoP for Christmas. Yay!

Good choices. You can pickup Warhawk new for about $30 anywhere, or with a headset for $50. If you shop around you can definitely get some better deals. Last of all. HAVE FUN!

If you are looking for games that will be for multiplayer online, then you probably should get a newer games. The downside is that it will cost more. If only line is not as important, then there are great deals on some outstanding shooters (Orange Box, Bioshock, CoD4, R6V, Reistance 1, etc). But if you need to get them something new, then I would lean towards CoD:WaW and then Resistance 2. CoD will have more poeple on line.

Rent Resistance 1 and buy R2.

You should also get Socom.
