How many event/program timers in this model?
Could the timer turn the box on?

Thank you for the info. Looks like the Solid Signal website is wrong about the EPG. They say the 950A has an EPG, defined as "EPG (Electronic Program Guide) time zone specific. You can see what will be showing up to a week in an advance. (area dependent)" . Hope the next member that receives a 950A can address the sensitivity of the new tuner and calibration of the signal & quality displays. I think the question is: Which model loses the picture to pixelation first, the 970A or the 950A. I also need a good rainy day.

RE: 7-day EPG

If you double check the SolidSignal site under the "Additional information" section if you look closely you will see they have a hidden in plain sight a embedded a link that links to another page that gives a breakdown on EPG timeframe that units display.
(Link is embedded in http://simages.solidsignal.com/cecbchart_banner.jpg)

PS: If you just read the Additional Information section without clicking on the embedded link and running a comparison the way they worded it makes it sounds like the "Up to 7-day EPG" applies (to whatever model you're interested in)...

It is only after clicking on that link that you find out otherwise..

Someone just reading the page would be under the impression the unit has a 7-day EPG....

Sneaky, huh?

If it's like the ZAT-970A, it has eight timers. The ZAT-950A, ZAT-970A, and the Dish products turn the CECB's on. The reminder function on the APEX DT502 requires it to be on all the time.

If any one knows of a national 'brick and mortar' 'chain' store selling Zinwell ZAT-950A or ZAT-970A could you please post the name of the store and what state it is in?
$8.95 (handling fee) + $42.99 = $52 in solidsignal.
Is there any other place to sell it cheaper?

I've asked people something along the same lines, but most people are hesitant to post such for various reasons.

PS: I've previously posted the UPC codes of both the ZAT-950A, and ZAT-970A either in this thread, or the 950A sister thread and a link to find out what local vendors are selling CECB's.

What I did was to do a search, and call around with UPC in hand...

(Note: Link will not tell you "who" is selling what- so you'll have to call around.)

Here it is linky again...https://www.dtv2009.gov/VendorSearch.aspx

.

HERE IS THE PREVIOUS POST with the UPC codes:

I found a ZAT-970A-0827 via using this search tool- and then calling around:

https://www.dtv2009.gov/VendorSearch.aspx

Scroll down to BOTTOM of page to where is says "Locate Retailers Near You"

Enter your Zip and Radius to search and it will display a listing

Note: It will not tell you which vendor carries what so you will have to CALL

Here are the UPC's:

Zinwell ZAT-970A UPC 8-7440900089-9

Zinwell ZAT-950A UPC 8-7440900113-1

Just went to the SolidSignal website and now they are only listing the 970A. I thought that was phased out and replaced by the 950A. Do you think these are returns or something? My coupon is only a month old so I guess I can wait for now.

That's what SS me told when I ordered the 950A some weeks ago. I also know from emails with Zinwell that the 950A was 'a work in progress' when I bought the 970A and found certain glitches with it. The 950A was supposed to correct some of the problems mentioned in this thread. Maybe SS (or Zinwell) found a big box of 970As hidden away somewhere that they want to get rid of?

Let's hope their all 0830 or less.

I have not found the extended EPG that big a deal. I have used it once or twice but mostly just keep the evening's programs in my head from TV Guide online.

Albertson's has two of the Zinwell 857 for $40 each.

Is that an older model? If not, does it have analog passthrough?

I don't think that model has TIMERS!
According to the WIKI list, it has the Silicon Tuner. It appears the Zinwell sites are all down and the WIKI list information is incomplete on the 857 model.

If you're not after the timers, it should be a good unit. If you do get one, please give us a review. Make sure you start a new thread.
Thanks.

It doesn't have analog passthrough, so it's out.

A heads-up to all you blue-light Zinwell shoppers - Acme (and I assume any Albertsons concerns) has the Zinwells on sale the week of 1/9 thru 1/15 for $42 flat (before coupon).
Here is a store locator for all the associated businesses. Just use the drop down for the State you want and click on "Search." Ignore that it's a Sav-On site and leave the Store select for "ALL."
The Albertson's here sold their last ones today and don't know if they will get more.
which aisle do you guys find the converter boxes in? I went to the very front of the store where they sell dvds and the lady said they didn't sell converter boxes at albertson's.
At Osco here they're behind the photo counter. Someone else in the metro area here (Dattier) said at their Osco, they were to the side of the photo counter where you could get at them yourself. But that's Osco.

Some Osco's have them here, and some don't. Might be the same with Albertson's.
First time I saw them in Jewel they were at the customer service counter and you had to ask for them. Last week in the Osco attached to the same Jewel, the boxes were openly sitting on top of the cabinet that had things like electronic equipment locked up in the aisle with CDs and such.

At Meijer, they were in the electronics section with the rest of the TV stuff.
thanks for the info! yeah i guess my albertson's didn't have it.

There are two separate Albertsons chains in the USA. The one in Longmont Colorado does not sell any CECBs

Bought my ZAT-970's at Grant's Appliances here in ChiTown last summer. Google 'em. I posted yesterday in the 970A thread about the issues I've had with these converters. Still hoping for some answers.

The 950A is back at solidsignal, but the price for this and the 970A is now $63.99 + $9.95 S&H.

Edit - it is now down to $58.99 + $9.95 S&H.
Looks like FreeDTVShop.com has these coming at the end of the week, too. Their price is $60.99 + $6.95 shipping. I don't think they've carried these before.
I can't believe you got Solidsignal on the phone.
I can't even get them to call me back.
I am looking for someone who has them in stock that actually wants to sell them.
Does anyone know where I can buy one now?
Has anyone who has a ZAT-950A opened the unit to see if it has a Microtune MT2131 tuner, as been claimed by http://www.SolidSignal.com/ ?
What code for the Dollar Tree remote works the 950A?
