Is it possible to convert 3.5mm stereo (male) with speaker wire (female)?

I'm trying to hook up my computer speakers to my Kenwood VR-605 Receiver which only has speaker-wire inputs.

Even if it were physically possible, would it sound right?

Your question doesn't make sense. You probably mean that your receiver has speaker-level OUTPUTS, and you're trying to connect self-powered media speakers which take a line-level input via a 3.5mm miniplug. Is that correct?

If so, no you cannot do this, you'll blow up the input on those computer speakers if you try to send them an amplified speaker level signal off the amplifier.

I didn't bring up the manual on that receiver, but I'm sure it will have some type of line level outputs, pre-outs, or record out or something like that on the back. Get an RCA to femail 3.5mm stereo miniplug adapter and connect your computer speakers to that, and you should be good to go. Or, if there is a headphone output off the front, turn it down low, and connect to that as a last resort.

joba2mo -- Those "computer" speakers have their own amplifiers. This is the reason that ChrisWiggles said what he did. They need "line level" inputs (voltage level, low power), not speaker inputs (high power, low impedance).

The Kenwood VR-605 does not have the requisite preamp output jacks.
I've already taken a look at the manual. The only preout is for a sub.

If you managed to feed the computer speaker's amp with speaker level outputs the most you are likely to get out of it is a small and eventually unsatisfying puff of smoke.

Remember, all electronics are powered by smoke, let it out and it won't work anymore.

it doesn't have ANY line level outputs at all? that's hard to believe. There's gotta at least be some kind of tape out or something. Fail that, the headphone out will work if you keep it low enough not to clip the crap out of the inputs on the computer speakers.
