HDMI Equalizer/Extender/Repeater and Category 2

Needing to run a Category-2 HDMI cable about 40 ft, but learned about the issues with long cables. My thought was to get two 20-ft CL2 Category 2 HDMI cables joined by an HDMI extender/equalizer/repeater. However, none of the repeaters I found indicated whether or not they were certified "Category 2". So my question is: is there a Category 2 designation for HDMI repeaters, or should I not worry about that so long as the cables are certified Category 2?

Thanks a bunch!

Any equalizer/extender, such as the one from Monoprice for example, that says it will work with 1080p signals should be ok, since that's as high a frequency as you need to be concerned about.

The equalizer works at the end of the cable to correct for the high frequency distortion that a long cable has, so it should also work at the end of a single 40ft cable.

OK... I finally bit the bullet and set up my HT, but I'm experiencing significant signal loss (projector cannot display more than 1 second of video before bombing). Here's my setup:

Onkyo TX-SR804 --> Monoprice (MP) Cat2 20' HDMI --> MP HDMI Extender/Repeater --> MP Cat2 20' HDMI --> Panny AE3000

I thought the repeater would enable me to keep the signal, but with no luck. After scouring other forums, it appears the culprit could be the cables, the receiver, the projector (rumor has it that it needs a strong signal). I just don't know where to begin.

Should I try to forgo the 2 cables and get a single 40' cable, place the extender/repeater at the end of that run, get a M/F adapter or a short cable (3 ft) and plug into the projector?

Unfortunately I don't have any other HDMI sources I could use to test the jacks on the projector apart from my receiver.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have some suggestions but i don't know well they may work.

1. You can try and get the supposedly (i say supposedly because I dont have first hand experience) best available cable for long runs. Belden BJC Series-1. http://www.bluejeanscable.com/store/...bles/index.htm

2. You could always place a 2nd equalizer to the setup.

Like I said I don't know if these suggestions will help. Just something for thought. I am interested how it goes, because i have a 80 foot HDMI project that i'm looking into.

A 2nd equalizer? Where would that go in the configuration? Would that be overkill for a 40 ft run?

According to this brochure for a different equalizer http://www.extron.com/download/files...mi101_revA.pdf, they recommend that you put the equalizer at the end of the long run and then just add a patch cable to connect to the receiving end. Guess I erred in thinking it would be better to connect 2 20' cables with the equalizer vs. connecting a 40' cable with a 3 footer.

I was thinking something like this.

Output Source ---> HDMI Cable 1 --> Equalizer 1 ---> HDMI Cable 2 ---> Equalizer 2 ---> Short HDMI Cable ---> Input Source

That being said, I think its just easier to try one 40 foot higher quality cable like the one i mentioned above, than mess with short cables and equalizers.

Do not go with the two equalizer option. Just use one equalizer at the end of the two 20' cables and use a HDMI female-to-female adapter to connect the two cables together. This is not as good as the single 40' cable option with an equalizer at the end, but it will probably work error-free. If you do have problems then replace the two 20' cables with a single 40' cable.

First: Why do you need to have Cat/2 (are you planing for whats coming)?
Today anything that you can purchase is fully supported by the original 1.1 5g Cable spec.
Second: Currently (to the best of my knowledge) there is no silicone available to produce a true 10.2G (1.3 Cat/2) repeater.
If this is for future implementation you would be better served by laying in a couple of Cat/6 network cables as these will support the chipsets that are on the way.
