I'm really confused? How can I record OTA HD from an STB?

I will be getting my second HD STB this Wed and am thinking of using one as a unit dedicated to recording OTA HD programs. How and with what recorder can I do this? My STBs are the Sony HD100 and the Panasonic TU-HDS20. I also have read that I can use SVHS tapes for DVHS recording which is good since I have about 100 once used Fuji SVHS tapes from a public TV station. What can I / should I consider?
Thanks for your help!

I'm sorry to bear bad news, Merc -- but you cannot record HD programs of any kind from a TU-HDS20 or Sony HD100 onto DVHS/SVHS.

The only boxes that work are the (discontinued) Panasonic TU-DST50 or TU-DST51, or the RCA DTC100 with the 169Time modification.

DC: Thank you for the news, even if it is bad. Would I be able to build a PC that would work with one of these units? If so, where can I find the directions and parts?
Thanks!

merc,

Yes, you can build a HTPC for HDTV recording. Go to the HTPC forum here at AVS. Every conceivable expert and lots of advice are there for the asking.

You can do a search for HIPIX or ACCESSDTV cards to get you started.
