Sony KDLV4100 Question

Edit: New Question-Does the V4100 pass 5.1 audio from hdmi to the audio out?
Also, for the type of use listed here is it worth the extra 100-150 for the 120Hz?

I have been looking at buying a new Samsung set and was wondering if owners of these sets and people with more buying experience than me(none) can recommend.

1. I plan on hooking my 360 up to the tv through HDMI, but have found inconclusive and contradictory information on how well these sets fare on lag times. My friends and I play lots of Rock Band and other video games so I am worried that this could be a problem.

2. I also plan on hooking up my PC to the tv through a DVI->HDMI adapter. I am worried about lag times here as well.

3. My Wii will be hooked up to the tv too and I have read bad things about standard definition content on these sets. I have component cables for it, but am worried that the picture will be disappointing.

4. Amazon and Samsung's websites are decidedly unhelpful in reporting what type of audio connections are present on the back panel of these things. Neither have a good back panel picture and the technical specs do not list optical or digital coax out. They DO have them right? And does the set always forward audio through them from every input? My receiver only has HDMI 1.3 pass-through so i was planning on using the television to get the 5.1 audio from the xbox360 to the receiver.

After searching the forums a bit the advice seems to be that the 650 would be a better buy for computing than the 550, but that the 650 has more lag than the 550 and the game mode degrades the picture quality. This seems to indicate I will have to compromise something if I decide to get one of these sets. I' not set on a Samsung tv, but I'm at a loss to what other brands provide such a killer price/performance ratio and are reviewed so positively everywhere.

1. It depends on how sensitive you are to lag. Rockband isn't much of a problem because 1) you can calibrate it for different amounts of lag, and 2) if you're any good, you can adapt to the lag by listening to the music. I think the 550 is about average for an LCD for input lag, the 650 is a little worse, but there are ways to compensate for it (use the VGA input, name the input "PC"). If you really, really care about lag, you might have to look at the Sony sets where the game mode is actually adjustable.

2. I don't think you'll actually be able to notice... you probably use an LCD right now that has some input lag (if not, my apologies).

3. SD looks decent, but it's going to look pretty crappy regardless. I have a friend with a Sony set and a wii, and it doesn't look that great on his TV either... plus, the main draw of the Wii isn't the graphics, right?

4. There's an optical out and an RCA out (at least on the 550, which I own, but I think it's the same on the 650). Neither set will pass 5.1 from HDMI to optical, so you're out of luck there. The PC and 360 should have SPDIF outs that you can run to your receiver separately though... this lack of passthrough is pretty common though, some nonsense about HDCP... some TVs will pass it though, if that's important to you (you'll have to check out owner's threads to find out though).

So other suggestions for a TV: Sony V4100/W4100

Thanks for the info clicq!

After doing a bit of research(google ) it seems that the xbox360 can not have the hdmi and optical plugged in at the same time without buying a special cable because of how connections are located on the back panel. And while if push comes to shove I can just hook it up as component I was interested in how much of a difference hdmi would make. The Sony panels you Recommended both have 5.1 channel audio out, which makes it sound like they support this type of thing. Can anyone with one of these sets confirm?

And whats the big deal about 120Hz? My LCD monitor is at 60 and I don't notice any problems. Is it worth the extra 100-150$ to go for it?
