Being frustrated about what? About people preferring name brands? Or not enough people buying their unit? Do you have a link to the article?

P.S. I have both the S350 and the Funai (Insignia NS-BRDVD). Forgetting about the differing profiles for the moment, I actually prefer the Funai. It's a faster player. What concerns me though is that Funai has NEVER issued a BD firmware release, and judging by my disk compatibility thread, it does need one.

What this does is it constantly delays cracking, such that people who want the new release now instead of waiting months for the pirates the crack it will just buy it because it's easier.

Copy protection and DRM are not and have never been about preventing piracy, they are about delaying piracy until the initial release window, where most of sales and profits are mode, is over.

won't help anyway since they can capture straight from HDMI regardless

I also saw BD rips for most of these titles before the street date

it's clearly a huge waste of resources

About the fact that full brand name are within the same price range as Chinese brand. On DVD when it happen DVD where 199$-299$ Chinese were 100$ than 50, than 30$ and brand name where still 150$. Now Sony is close to 199$ and it's the same price as the 'not discounted' Funai. Witch offer 0 support right now. Again you can get a Durabrand for 30$ at Walmart (DVD) or a Toshiba at 99$ ..

Well almost, if the CE never update the firware for BD+ (seems to be the problems on a lot of players since FOX just changed the software on disc) then the disc won't play at all. If they offer an FW then ok.. it's all good..

I bought my RCA DVD player in 1998 for US$299. It also came with an exclusive DVD title, one that had not been released yet for retail. There were zero Chinese-branded players in North America at the time.

Since the "black market" gets a hold of movies weeks if not months before retail release, they still have plenty of time to crack it. It's dumb and it causes a lot of unnecessary problems for those who actually legally purchase their movies.

Firefly the series played fine on my Magnavox (Funai) player.

So, is this BD+ the 2nd generation BD+ or 3rd? I haven't been keeping up.

Added to the Funai disc tracking thread. Thx.

This little player seems to be doing very well in general.

I hope In the Name of the King never plays on my Samsung.

Not from their viewpoint. With this action, they've successfully killed AnyDVD HD and Slysoft estimates it will take at least 2-3 months for them to add support for the new BD+ protection.

This. It's still what I would consider the biggest pitfall of Blu-ray, ie. compatibility issues. Some of these studios aren't helping the format toward mass adoption with their ongoing use of draconian DRM.

Agreed.
Has anyone tried these movies on the Sharp players yet?

I just picked up an Insignia NS-2BRDVD and it will not play Space Chimps. Does anyone know if there is some sort of update for this player? I couldn't find anything online. Damn thing is that i really wanted to get X-files and Firefly....oh well.

Try asking in the hardware forum.. Hope there is a fix for you. This is why DRM stinks.

they don't care about people making backups on their servers, they care about pirates distributing the movies

a new version of BD+ doesn't help in the latter at all as shown by most of those titles being available of sharing sites before the release dates
post #49 of 97
this is a clear example of why the ps3 is the player to use until we get a few more years into the format
post #50 of 97
I could only find a 1/3 of the list on newsgr... on the news so its working.
OP should add the PlayStation 3 to the list of supported playback devices, I can confirm some of the movies listed play fine on it.
All of the lists is no problem with Pioneer bdp.LX70a(95FD),LX71(05FD),SONY S-350.

Also have the NS-2BRDVD and Futurama: Bender's Game doesn't work either.

got a Sharp BD-HP21U. Xfiles 2 plays fine; although this movie loads very slowly.
Sharp BD-HP21U. Home Alone doesn't play at all. Some movies, such as The Longest Day, and Dr No, will load after a long time, but upon playing the movie will either lock up, or not play sound. Sharp gave us the line of "thanks for telling us about these discs but we don't know when/if it'll be fixed". Hopefully Amazon will let us exchange for one of the more reliable players listed above.

According to people who have contributed to my Funai disc tracking thread, the Magnavox NB500MG9 can play:

Firefly, X-Files, X-Files 2.

This player is also known as the Insignia NS-BRDVD (which is the Funai-made model previous to the newer yet reportedly problematic Desay-made 2NS-BRDVD), and also known as both the Sylvania NB500SL9 and NB501SL9. The reports came from people specifically who own the Magnavox version though.

I have a Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player. X Files 2 will not play. I guess I will take the player back to Best Buy where I bought it less than a year ago and see if there is an update available. This is the first disc that I have bought or rented that would not play on this player.

What planet are you living on? The MPAA and RIAA are very much against home users making "backups".

There is a new firmware for your player (version 4.40 posted 12/17/08), On Sony's website.

I talked to Insignia, they are planning a firmware update in "early 2009" for the NS-2BRDVD.

Can't believe they bundled the thing with Fox movies for a Holiday special.
