Looking for help in buying speakers for my first surround sound system...just bought Denon 2809ci av receiver...considering Polk LC80i or Atlantic Technologies ICTS-8.3e for the front 3 speakers (2 surrounds are pre mounted on the ceiling and i don't know the brand)...my family room is pretty big with back opens to the kitchen...any pros or cons about these speakers or any other recommendations will be highly appreciated...wife does not want any bulky free standing or wall mounted speakers...

There are plenty of recommendations on this forum. do a quick search for "in ceiling".

It depends on your budget and your personal preferences. I have Triad in ceiling speakers and couldn't be happier with them. I think speakercraft makes in ceiling speakers that some people like.

Don't if you possibly can avoid it.

There are a bunch of small wall mounts that are very good and offer much more flexibility than "in ceiling".
Smalls can be hidden in bookcases, behind planters..etc and moved when your furniture or taste changes. Some are "paintable" to match decor.

In ceilings scream, background music to me, esp in a large room.

The wife thing is a concern I can relate to. To me grills in the wall/ceiling can be just as obtrusive....good luck.

I like my ceiling mounted Jamo 10.5K4's (10" 4-way) rated 200W peak. I use them for side and rear surround, and they sure make is easier than trying to PLACE side and rears in odd-sized rooms. It also keeps the wires running asunder away..

Just my .02,

Rick
