Help Building HTIB or Receiver with Speakers

I am new to a/v systems and I would like to either build a home theater (A/V) or a buy HTIB around the $700 price range. Currently I would only need a 5.1 system, however, I would like to have a receiver that is able to be upgraded to 7.1 in the future. I currently have a 42" 720p Plasma and a DVD player (Blue ray in the future). Can I have some assistance building a system to fit my needs?

For the receiver I would most definatly recommend this Denon 788:

For that you are talking 272 Shipped.

The 5.1 system can probably be had at looking at somewhere like the speaker company, fluance, or consider the polk monitor 30s, and polk r50s (which are on sale at newegg i believe or get them from polk direct), or depending on your room size the Quintet IIIs are very awesome for the price. For the subs i would suggest Energy, BIC, Klipsch, or any you can get cheap ( i believe the BICs are very good subs for the price and you can get them relativly inexpensive. Any of these would be good deals and great bang for the buck

For the receiver I was thinking either the Onkyo 606 or the Denon 788.

For the speakers: Onkyo SKS-HT240 or Mirage Nanosat 5.1

Which would be the best choice or should I go by the recommendation of zgumby. I am definitely not an audiophile so an recommendations would be great.

Either the Onkyo or Denon receiver would work. The Onkyo would be more futureproof for Blu-Ray (Denon model doesn't appear to have TrueHD/DTS decoding, although the newer 789 does.)

I would choose the Mirage speakers over the Onkyo ones. Onkyo is a receiver maker that has speakers as a side project. Mirage is a dedicated speaker maker. Do the math, and Mirage is the better buy.

I found a refurbished onkyo 606 from Accessories 4 less for 289. Is this company reputable and is the working condition of refurbished receivers comparable to new receivers.
