Sorry, I misread your post. If she is getting any info at all, then it is not the analog button.

I should of known better to read and post from my Blackberry with these old eyes.

I know this is confusing me. This is why I am asking if anyone here had this problem?

You might have your aunt do a soft reset by holding the on/off button down for ten seconds.

Oh I dod not know this can be done. What happens after 10 seconds?
Similar to what happens when you unplug the unit. I haven't needed to do it in a while.

She shouldn't have to redo timers and all the settings like you would if you did a return to factory defaults.

So you turn on the box then hold the button down for 10 seconds? Two separate pushing of the power button or just one? Push it once to turn on then push and hold it for 10 seconds? Or push it and hold it from the off position?

Then what happens exactly after 10 seconds?

Does it turn off? Does it flash?

I need to explain to my aunt. She will ask details. I also need to know to make sure she done it correctly.

Push and hold the power button for 10 seconds - it does not matter whether the machine is on or off.
Then you'll see both the green and red lights on, and you can let go of the power button. The machine then reboots itself.

Ty Chuck I will let you know what happens.

You never heard of what is going on with my aunts machine?

And advise her not to start pressing other buttons until the machine has finished the process.

The DVR will appear to turn off and the TV will probably say something like looking for signal. Soon after that she should see a white screen with a DTVPal DVR logo and something like loading, please wait. If she does not see this, it could indicate that the TV is set to the wrong input.

Additionally, it sounds like the data she is seeing all comes from the guide. Is there a signal strength indication > 0?

I won't know till tomorrow. She is being difficult.

Tv only has Analog and one input. Coax. It was a philips COSTCO Special. That I bought for the low low price of $200 back in 1999. I needed a simple cheap tv at that time.

I am leaning toward that she set the remote to TV and did something again. It is really frustrating.

I thank you guys for the details and help.

I guess no one heard of this problem before? I would love to know if it is her. So I can tell her to stop doing what she is doing.

Can you go to her house and look in person?

Great question. As I said many times before. She lives about 1 hour to 1:30- 2 depending on traffic. (One way)

There is only street parking available. Every trip I make takes 2 to 4 hours round trip plus the time I spend there. So it can be a total of 3 to 6 hours. Right now i do not have the time. Also average of 7 gallons of gas. So $21 (I have to use supper) Plus meter of $4 or more

As you can see. It is an expensive and timely visit. Just for a box that is (she) is breaking every week now.

Getting ready to replace it with the NON DVR version when I go back.

Maybe you should just get her a new TV with a digital tuner.

She would be pushing ever dam input there was. It would drive me nuts.

It is far from a perfect world. Earlier today I put KEYE back in my list with KNCT to see what would happen... the time went from exact to about 6 minutes slow as it obviously has a time sync priority with KEYE. OK, fine. Took KEYE back out... and I've only had the option to manually set the time all the rest of today (Saturday) even after multiple resets and waits and triple checking all 3 KNCT channels were in my list. While this isn't as annoying as having the time bounce around (but I'd hate to lose the TVGOS guide) it does raise more questions about of the reliability of these signals and/or how our boxes decode them. The XDS type time signals from the PBS stations my TV's use have always been close to on target through all the timing problems we've had with these DVRs here near Austin... too bad we don't have the option to chose where we get the time sync.

And btw, no replies yet to the email I sent the ROVI team.

Wow -- If you can't get accurate time the PAL is basically useless!

Does anyone in the group have any technical info on how TVGOS works. Is time sent constantly or several times a day? Where in the system is the time added? Is it possible to analyze the data stream?

Finally are any other TVGOS capable devices in the Austin area seeing this problem?

I agree. Your aunt sounds like a couple of people in this house. They don't understand technology, they don't want to (or can't) learn how to solve problems logically and one of them always seems do everything she can to make problems worse. (They have problems with the CECB)

Your aunt needs a tv with a built in digital tuner and the simplest remote available and she still will have problems...

Your efforts will not be appreciated and the problems will not stop...

At least that's my experience...

How is the PAL connected RF or composite?

Do a full factory reset and you should get the TV Guide logo and guide info back. This is a known issue with the DTVPal DVR and is addressed in Owner's Question #7 "Help! I lost TVGOS (7-day program listings) and can't get it back!" which is located on page 1 of this thread.

I've lost TVGOS approximately 3 times in the last year on my F208 DVR and each time it was fully restored by doing a full factory reset. I know it's a problem that is isolated to the F208 firmware because each time I lost TVGOS on my F208 DVR, my F201 DVR never lost the TVGOS. Both DVRs are hooked up to the same rooftop antenna 24-7 and I'm receiving the TVGOS station at 98-100% on the signal strength meters on both DVRs.

New User Issues: Help?

I've now had my DTVPal (new, F208) 2 days, and although I sort of love it, I'm having some issues.

1) I'm not getting TVGOS - but I think I know why. For some reason, my local ABC station (WSB TV Atlanta) does not come in well in the room with my DTVPal. Although reception is fine going directly to my Vizio TV when I fiddle with the antenna (it shows that the signal bouncing between 30 - 60), the DTVPal says: 0 reception. I have a little flat w/rabbit ears unamplified Philips antena split to the TV & DTV Pal, but even when I didn't split it & ran it straight in, nothing changed. So since TVGOS comes in on the ABC channel, I'm not getting it. This also means I can't record anything on ABC, which kind of bites. I'm starting to think I have to get a new antenna, which is more money and confusion.....

2) My other big issue is that when I fast-forward, then push play, there is a popping noise. When I switch channels up or down, there is a popping noise. If I rewind, popping noise. There's no noise if I just enter the channel number, which is weird. This is a really annoying noise to hear all the time when watching a recorded show. The Pal is connected to my Vizio HDTV by HDMI cable. The TV audio goes out the headphone jack into a small Sony amp and then small speakers (yes, I know, it's not super surround sound-y, but it's a vast improvement over the Vizio's speaker, and it works great for everything else.) There is never a popping noise when playing a videotape or watching TV directly or playing a DVD. Has anybody experienced this? (I have the Pal set up to the non-dolby setting.)

Any advice would be appreciated. I may not keep it if I keep having the noise issue, although maybe I can futz around with a new antenna and possibly solve the ABC reception issue. Thank you!

1. According to the info at RabbitEars digital TVGOS in Atlanta (Market No. 9) is being sent out by WSB-TV 2 (ABC) and by WPBA 30 (PBS). Are you receiving WPBA 30 with your current antenna?

2. Seeing that you have your audio routed through your TV and then to your external amplifier/speakers, I would try routing the audio directly to the amplifier/speakers and see if the noise disappears. If it does, you will know that the audio circuitry in the TV is producing the noise and that it is not coming from the DTVPal DVR.

I'd also try analog audio just to see what happens

Okay, in answer to another question, Channel 30 is much, much worse than the ABC channel, so that's out of the question for TVGOS. I will try routing the sound directly from the Pal to the audio system and see if the TV (or maybe HDMI input) is doing something weird to it. But I'm not sure what Pete means when he says try analog audio? I'm willing to A-B anything, but I don't know what you mean.
