And slighty different firmware. Is anyone here from the Channel Master era? I'd like to know what their experience has been.
So far the reviews I've seen have been overall good, but what is the long term experience?
Based on everything that has been posted on this thread and from my own personal research the Dish DTVPal DVR and the Channel Master CM-7000PAL DVR are "identical" except for the differences in the logos/color schemes of their menus and in their manufacturers' warranties. Dish's warranty was 90 days parts and labor (when Dish was selling them) and Channel Master's warranty is 1 year parts and labor.
Assuming the two units are the "same" I believe the decision is strictly a financial one. Below I've done a comparison of real-world pricing available right now for the Dish and Channel Master units. (I did not include any prices from eBay as those prices vary constantly and some are even higher than retail.) To even things out I've added an extended warranty to the Dish unit to make it more closely match the Channel Master manufacturer's warranty.Dish DTVPal DVR available at Kmart
for $249.99 plus $6.95 shipping plus $29.99 2-year Smart Plan extended warranty plus your state/local sales tax (if applicable). Total Delivered Price
would be $286.93
(plus any applicable state/local taxes).Channel Master DVR from Solid Signal
for $329.99 (enter promo code CMDVRDEAL
at checkout and the price will drop to $329.99) plus $10.95 shipping plus state/local sales tax (charged only for Michigan delivery addresses). Total Delivered Price
would be $340.94
(plus Michigan sales tax if applicable).
So the bottom line is that the Dish DTVPal DVR with a 2-year extended warranty is $54.01 cheaper
than the Channel Master CM-7000PAL DVR with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Those are the facts so each person can make their buying decision based on their own personal preferences and what is important to them.
