hello, i've had my dtvpal for about 9 months - it has been working great - its a f202 version (i'm afraid to upgrade to the f209, i've heard of many problems after doing a upgrade) - as i said its been working great, then a couple of weeks ago it started rebooting itself, not to often sometimes twice a day, somedays not at all - then yesterday the remote seemed to stop working - i have a sony tv working on pals remote also, everthing was working fine - then as i said the remote seemed to quit - i soon realized that i could only turn pal off\\on if the tv was off (if tv was on, i could not turn pal off\\on) - and most of the time all the buttons would not work on pal but would operate the tv just fine - then i realized the the remotes buttons for operating the pal would work if i had the remote about an inch away from the pal recievers window - it seems like, somehow the sony tv is overpowering the pal - i've put knew batteries in remote, i am useing pal's remote - i'm wondering if somehow the infered signal between the tv and pal somehow crossed - is there away to remove my tv's info from my pal remote - i've tried redoing the tv to the remote, it didnt change anything - anyone else haveing this problem, any idle of a way to fix this - i really like this unit - i've phoned the rep's, they are useless - thanks for any and all help

Check your Sony TV for a "light sensor" or "daylight sensor" setting. When enabled, that setting causes havoc with many STBs and DVRs.

thanks for the info - i did turn the light sencor "on" (enable) to the sony tv's - it adjust the pictures brightness according to the rooms light - i did this right around the same time the remote thing started - i cannt remeber if it was before or after - i will try to find that light thing in the menue (i'm not tech savy and this sony bravia is loaded with setting\\menue stuff that i dont know what half of it is for - i think i might, also had changed the light settings in the cinimia, natural, gameing and there was a few other chose's - i'll change the light setting back to disable and see what happens, if that doesnt work, i'll play around with the other light settings - i'll let ya know tomarrow - again, thanks for the help

TVGOS for ABC in Buffalo, NY has also disappeared, although the local affiliate provides 36 hours worth of PSIP listings which is among the top in this DMA.

Actually, the stations have been disappearing one-by-one from months now. I'm down to NBC, CBS and PBS for the stations I ever watch.

I'm preparing room between my 8-track player and my Beta format VCR for this thing. The end is near.

thank you so much bfdtv - you've solved my paltv remote problem - i disabled\ urned offthe light sensor feacture and wa-la my remote once again will operate my paltv without having to get up and place the remote next to the reciever - it sure is odd that what ever the tv puts out to measure the rooms brightness, inorder to adjust the tv's brightness would interfer with the remotes operation (and i liked that feacture, it was nice that the tv's picture was not so bright in the evens)

i have another question, i if ya dont mind, my paltv software version is F202, i today, downloaded the latest version, F209, onto a usb stick - since my paltv is working fine now, should i not try to update the paltv - i've had this paltv for about 8-9 months with no trouble, then starting about 2 weeks ago, it had serval times rebooted, it had never done that before - if it still reboots, would the F209 version fix this or could i be asking for more trouble by upgrading to it - again, i thank you for your help

The website only shows F208...not sure where you got F209. The old saying should go with this machine, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Although, the reboot issue is suppose to be fixed with F208.

Off topic here, I see your in Toronto. What info do you get for thye Canadian stations? Are they on TVGOS or PSIP?

ABC only goes less than one day so it's PSIP. PBS has been missing from TVGOS since the transition in June. NBC, FOX, CW and of course CBS go out 7/8 days.

At one time last winter, even some of the Harrisburg channels had TVGOS (I was not receiving Harrisburg CBS, so the data had to be coming from Baltimore CBS).

TVGOS is not a must have for me. With F208, I can set up any show to record regardless of whether it's in the guide, and I can use my Dish 625 to see what's on out 9 days.

UPDATE: As of this morning I no longer have any TVGOS listings, just some stations have PSIP and my TVGOS logo in the guide is gone. TVGOS is enabled. Going to em,ail the CBS station or call.

I had the same exact problem last week with my F208 DVR. I did a full factory reset and TVGOS re-appeared on the overnight. I have had full TVGOS since then (minus the ABC listings which everyone is reporting). This was the second time in 6 months that I lost TVGOS with my F208 DVR and I was able to restore it each time with a full factory reset.

During the same time period last week my F201 DVR never lost TVGOS so my problem was not caused by my local CBS station (WBZ channel 4.1 in Boston) that is broadcasting TVGOS. For this reason you might want to try a full factory reset before contacting your local CBS TVGOS broadcaster as the problem may in fact be with your DTVPal DVR. Are you running F208 in the DVR that lost TVGOS?

Yes I have F208, the only update Ihave installed. Got mine Dec 08. Never had any problems.

Could you refresh my mind on how to do a "full factory reset" over just holding the power button? Thanks, Much appreciated.

Go to Menu then Setup then System Setup then Factory Defaults (or Menu then 3-2-4). This will reset your DVR to the factory settings. You will have to re-do any settings that you have changed from the defaults (i.e. adding minutes to the beginning or end of any recording, disabling updates, size/order of guide listings, etc.). You will also have to re-program any timers that you have set as they will be lost but you will not lose any programs that are already recorded on your DVR.

It has taken me quite a few hours to get the TV Guide logo back in my guide display after a factory reset. (I usually just do it on the overnight.) Others on this thread, however, have reported getting the TV Guide logo back in their guide display more quickly after a factory reset so YMMV depending on your location.

You can select EDIT then select all the recordings then click DELETE.

You can also just format the hard drive.

I lost my TVG a few months ago and was able to get it back by just doing a channel re-scan. Don't remember how long it took to re-populate but it wasn't less than an hour.

I lost TVGOS about 10 days ago. I emailed our CBS affiliate in Green Bay, WI and got no reply. Today I called them and they said it had been down. They were sent new equipment and it was working as of late last night. Today I wiped out my DVR and unplugged, set up without an antenna, then re-setup with an antenna.

It has been about an hour...no dice yet. Still no TVGOS.

My TVGOS takes several hours (I just wait overnight) most of the time. I've lost ABC like the others, but all other stations are in tact.

I was able to receive CBUT for about 2 hrs one night, and they only had the current show on PSIP (not next or anything else). No TVGOS info.

I have never gotten it but after reading the dvrpal faq at the beginning of this forum I see I should not use the zipcodes supplied in the manual but the zip code for the station sending the TVGOS data. So far I have been using the zip code in the manual 00001 or my house zip with no luck.

So does anyone know where I can get the zip code for CBS New York? Also would one use the zip code where the transmitters are located which in my case is the Empire State Building? Or does one use the zip codes where the office or something else is?

I'm a little south of you in Middlesex Cty and get TVGOS fine with my own zip, 07008.

The zip code doesn't have to be that exact. Just choose a zip code for the city your programming is coming from.
Of course NYC has many zip codes. Just pick one, (like 10022).

Your home ZIP should work. Write down all your timers then try a reset to factory defaults then reenter all your settings. Some people seem to think that after a while the DVR stops looking for TVGOS and the reset or rescan makes it start looking again. Some people get TVGOS without doing anything. YMMV.

When you get ready to sell, let me know how much you want.

I have noticed several changes within my TVGOS listing over the last two weeks in my S. Cal. market area. First, I noticed that my ABC station (Ch. 7) which has been reportedly our TVGuide carrier started to list their programming in 'all caps', with a recent discovery that this channel is only listed with 9 hours of data at a time. Yet I still have the TVGuide red logo and several days of programming listing of the other channels.

Does anyone know if ABC has given up being the TVGOS carrier - hence only 9 hours of programming and in 'all caps', and some other station has this contracted job?

I contacted a technical person at the ABC affiliate (WFAA/channel 8) in Dallas and he is looking into why the TVGOS is missing. Hopefully he can figure out what has gone wrong. Apparently channel 11 (the CBS affiliate) sends out the TVGOS information here in Dallas.
