8300HD DVR: What is the best sounding audio out

I have the SA 8300HD going via HDMI to my plasma for picture only.
My stereo sound comes out thru the 8300HD component RCA audio out to amps and speakers.
The sub is summed 8300HD L+R VCR audio out.
I use the volume control on the 8300HD.

Will taking audio out from the RCA's (via HDMI) on the back of my Panasonic 42pz85u plasma result in improved sound?
If I took the sound from the back of the tv I'd need to get a RC passive preamp.

Also is there a digital device (no amps included) that I can plug in the HDMI into, to get the sound only, to go direct to my amps/speakers? (skipping the tv)
So the flow would be 8300HD/HDMI/Digital device/HDMI/TV.

Unless you have a HDMI input receiver, your best audio for more than 2 channels (such as dolby digital 5.1 from many cable stations) is to use the digital audio connection - optical or coax, not the two-channel only analog RCA outputs.

Thanks for replying Joxer,

I don't think I made it clear that I want to end up with stereo only, no surround sound at all.
I've lived with a good mono system for 10 years or more and recently went back to stereo. It's actually my own design of a speaker bar under the TV with 2 mid ranges with a tweeter that is mixed L+R. Keeps the sound near the TV, instead of wandering around the room. Just my taste.
