vaio to reciever???

new to laptop to home theatre connections.....

i have a vaio cr series with ext. hard drive loaded with tunes
also a yammy 7.1 home theatre reciever
what would be the best connection to listen to audio from the laptop
i know you can just use the "y" pin to rca
and ive seen external units ...soundcards

but i would just like to get high quality audio from the laptop with the best cable set-up???

There are many options. One of the most popular would be to use a Squeezebox device. That would require some sort of network connection between the Squeezebox and the computer.

Another option would be Apple's Airport Express. It's about $100. You would need a computer with wireless networking and iTunes. This is what I use. iTunes may not play some music files, which could be a problem. And I have not found it to be 100% reliable.

If the computer is physically near the receiver, you can connect RCA audio cables. You would use a headphone jack or line out jack from the computer. Quality may vary depending on the computer's audio.

These are the most obvious options which occur to me, there are of course other options.
