"Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found." Fixed in 60 seconds!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I went to start my PS3 last night, I got this error:

"Cannot start. The correct hard disk was not found."

When I did a search on this error, I found many types of possible solutions including taking out the hard drive and putting it back to wiping out the ps3.

There's a thread on AVS about this error but the user was installing a new drive. I was getting this error on the original drive on my Novmeber 2006 60GB Ps3.

I fixed this error in about 60 seconds. I saw a post by Martez explaining how to bring up the PS3's debug menu. Here's what I did.

1. Made sure the PS3 was off.
2. Pressed and held the power button until I heard 2 beeps. I then let it go. Otherwise the PS3 powers off if I hold it too long.
3. From the debug menu, I selected "Restore File System".
4. A couple button presses later, my PS3 was alive again. Everything was the same as it was before.

Hope this helps.

Thats good to know. I have a launch 60 gig also so if that ever happens to me I'll have to try that.

It's happened to me a couple times. I just rebooted and it was fine. Now what sucked was when it said: Hard Drive Database must be rebuilt, and then I lost all my album art which, because of my mild case of OCD , was all manually loaded.

Glad it worked out.

It happens to me on a regular basis. It's a by-product of using one of the WD Scorpio HDDs.

A simple restart makes everything work normally. Small annoyance, but that's about it.

Interesting. I tried shutting down & restarting and unplugging and restarting. Neither worked for me.

Btw, the only thing that changed on my system recently was the "Home" installation.

yep. I've got the WD scorpio drive as well. btw...kingshorty....you're an Indy fan, but you're in Chicago? How did that happen? (Of course, I guess you could say the same thing about the Titans and Houston for me). Good luck to you this Sunday. You'll need it .

Now I'm a little concerned because I have a WD Scorpio, but it's a 160GB version. Is anyone having issues with that one? I haven't had any problems so far.

I did something different though. There's a feature for "reduced power spinup" that is set with a jumper. I had to know what this was, so I did a search and found that someone had problems with Soul Calibur IV. He set the jumper to enable this and that fixed it. So, I just set mine that way when I installed it, and it's been that way ever since. Maybe someone who is having trouble with this could try doing that.

Could you post more about the "reduced power spinup" please.

I always figured that the Scorpio was a little slow when starting up, never looked at it that it could be too fast.

Ps
Yeah, I'm an Indy fan that lives in Chicago. I'm also a Braves fan, Red Wings fan, Jeff Gordon fan, Manchester United superfan and Bulls fan.

Okay, this looks like the post I found:

http://www.eurogamer.net/forum_threa...hread_id=98452

I was curious as to what that setting was for, and since it helped someone with SCIV issues, I just set it that way on mine.

Here's a link to a PDF about the feature: http://www.wdc.com/en/library/portable/2579-001116.pdf

You may have to check WD's site to find out what jumper to set to enable this.

Thanks. Will give this a look-see in the morning!

My son's PS3 has also come up iwth this message, only after he had just been playing it, turned it off, then turned it on again, and however many times we try it will not work. We have tried holding the power button for two beeps, but it will not bring up any debug menu, it appears to be trying and for a few seconds a _ _ _ _ _ _ comes up on the screen then it just tries to start and the usual eror message comes up.

I was considering buying a new hardrive (laptop one) and fitting it, but what if I spend £50 on one and find out the problem is not the hard drive but some sort of connection to the hard drive in the PS3.

I have tried taking the hard drive out and putting it back in but that had no effect.

Has anyone managed to cure this problem in anyway?

Any help appreciated.

Just a suggestion, I would try to use another hard drive anyway since a) it can be used to troubleshoot the problem b) it can be used as an upgrade. Best case scenario is the drive swap works and you now have more space. If not, try calling Sony.

I get this message too. I got the wd scorpio, 320 gb version. I just reboot. Sometimes more then once. How do I fix this stupid error WITHOUT erasing the patches and the stuff?
How do you actually reboot? It may sound a simple question.........but I don't know.

Press and hold the On/Off button until it turns off and comes back on.

Oh I've done that loads of times. But why can I not get that debug menu?
I believe you hold the power button when it is off, as it turns on, wait for it to beep twice, then let it go as holding longer than that will shut it off.

that debug menu is a tricky one to get into, i stumbled across it once. and when i want to try to get into it I can't seem to do it. only wants to reset the video output, or turn off.

can anyone give me sure fire steps to get into this debug menu everytime?
