Thanks fire_de, I tried this but no luck. It seems to me that my problem is slightly different from yours - I can see the NFS shares on the WinXP Home machine, but can't see anything in these folders (WDTV says "This folder is empty").

I tried downgrading to '1.02.00.WDLXTV-0.4', but the problem persists. Again, disabling my McAfee firewall had no effect.

Still won't play any files at all, and I'm ready to give up and buy a Popcorn Hour....

Still won't play any files, just says "Please refer to the user manual." And if I have a folder with huge files, it says "Folder is empty."

I've tried it all. Unplugging, flashing, turning off/on Media Library, sacrificing chickens. It won't play mkv, wmv, avi, mpg, mp3, anything, no matter the file size, and it won't show my files if the folder (and all subfolders combined) are too big. Not sure of what that size limit is though.

If I try to play a file, it just sits there for a min or two, then gives the error.

I don't want to give up on this thing, but I haven't been able to do any work myself on it and it looks like my problem is unique for some reason.

EDIT: Also interesting, the same files work from a USB hard drive, but now the audio in the MKV file won't output to my receiver. It is set to output Digital audio, not Stereo. For that one day the net firmware was working, the video played with audio, so this is a new problem even though USB hard drive.

Don't give up, Nemo128. The WDTV has great potential (if we donate to b-rad we might even get DVD menu support ;-) - and isn't fiddling with this stuff just fascinating..?

As for my (as yet unresolved) problem - I had my NSF shares working out of the (hacked) box, have happily been streaming stuff over my network, but ran into the NSF share prob described above when I upgraded to 0.4.3.1.

B-rad, do you have any suggestions?
Quick question...

I've just upgraded to the latest WDLXTV which is great, however I was surprised to find my net.mounts file still present in /conf from the previous version WDLXTV I was using.

I had assumed this would be overwritten when I re-flashed?

Can someone (b-rad.cc) please explain.

Just a question, would the people that uses the webserver be interested in a feature to be automatically informed when new update is availble??

Best regards

No video playback from nfs mounted share on a dlink dns-323

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm having a problem getting nfs mounted videos to play. I xmount the nfs share just fine and can browse the folder hierarchy. When I play a video (of a supported codec) the screen goes black and hangs until I back out.

The error from my Messages file is:

Code:
Apr 9 22:53:15 wdtvDownstairs user.notice kernel: nfs: server 10.76.76.4 not responding, timed outThis repeats so long as I stay on the blank screen.

my setup:

wdtv w/ ext3_mount
dlink dns-323 w/ fun_plug 0.5
dlink USB->Ethernet adaptor rev B1.

the export file on the nfs server is:

Code:
/mnt/HD_a2/Videos 10.76.76.0/24(rw,no_root_squash)net.mounts:

Code:
xmount 10.76.76.4:/mnt/HD_a2/Videos Videos nfs
Suggestions? Tips? Any help would be great.

I had the same problem and had to revert to 8.6 to make it work.

Hey!

I am using ext3-boot-0.8.6.zip and it works grate, now I whould like to use the new pre version of the offcial firmware with network suport. Is there a ext3-boot-0.8.6.zip upgraded to 1.02.03 ?

Best Regards
It seems ext3-boot latest release (0.9) is based on 1.02.00

You can try WDLXTV 0.4.3.x which is based on 1.02.03
post #1661 of 2569
Okay, thanks!

I will go away over the weekend and need the unit to work and I do not have alot of time testing it today so it simes like I will wait with the upgrade.

If it only was a simple upgrade then I would have done it right away.

is it possible to mount wdtv.bin in a xp enviroment
to modify some xml files?
thanx
have been succesfully using ext3 8.5.2 boot firmware for weeks now, no problems at all. I stream content on a daily basis.

Now, I have set up microsoft services for unix as the nfs server on my xp home, but I am thinking about upgrading to the windows 7 beta. Does anybody know if services for unix will work on there?
Zorander, when do you think you will be releasing a update to support 1.02.03 firmware?

Thanks
coz zorander haven;t rlsed new ext3-boot based on 1.02.03 i;ve changed binaries in his last 0.9 from 1.02.00 to 1.02.03. it works for me so if u can;t wait here it is:

http://www.mediafire.com/?ino2qzzgdzo

it;s just root.bin, rest is same as in ext-boot.0.9, hope zorander won;t mind. tx to brad for providing list of files that changed since 1.02.00.

as usual i don;t take any responsibility if it bricks your box, so if u are afraid don;t download. i will keep this file online only till zoradner will rls new version of his ext3-boot fw 1.02.03 based.

I hope it worths the work :\\ ..

I think I'm gonna use my internet ISP free space to host the files because its free and the uptime is good.. The problem is that the server is located in Portugal, so, all the people live outside Portugal will have slow speeds (the files are not so big too).
I know there is many free servers out there, but ALL have very bad uptime!

Best regards

It does not overwrite your net.mounts or net.config, so it will retain your settings.

If I get my hands on someone's files, I may start fiddling with it myself too.

even though i i'm still using ext3 i don't see a reason why anyone would not want to be informed when a new update is available, especially if it could (insert wishfull thinking here) be able to flash to the new firmware on the fly. kinda like DarkAlex's firmware network upgrades for the psp.

Is there anyone who can help me with a description on how to set up my Apple Extreme Airport router to get my WD HD TV mounting via ethernet-adapter.

I'm using the B-RAD firmware by the way.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

Ive been following the thread since its begining (along with the custom firmware) There has been lots of progress with ref limits and dts issues etc (remux to ts for example) but i have come across some file with low refframes but the video slows down during certain scenes.. seems to be at the same point each time.. the file is 1080x800 mkv with 3 reframes and dts audio.

ive tried remuxing to ts and m2ts and removing audio completly and remuxing to mkv but the same thing occurs... has anyone seen this b4?

John

(im using the latest wdlxtv firmware)

Alright. I was very happy with my WD TV after a stint with a Screenplay 500gb. Now I find this forum and I am overjoyed. So, I've got the newest WDlxTV firmware, a 1.5 TB Barracuda, ethernet adapter working and I can access the WDTV with Filezilla. Now I want to start changing the OSD (start with the backdrop). I can't upload any files to the OSD folder via FTP. I'm getting 553 Rename/move failure: Read-only file system. So, my questions are 1) how can I make it read/write to upload system files and 2) how can I open/edit a .bin file to install changes that way. I d/l farscape-osd.V_.app.bin but can't seem to find a way to open it in Vista. I'm not too familiar with Linux but I do have Ubantu on another partition on this PC. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is anyone else having problems installing the new WDLXTV from B-RAD 0.4.3.2?

The WD TV doens't see the firmware as new firmware? I checked the WDTV.ver and it says the right firmware version to be installed.
