Thanks for the info. I am having a problem seeing the mount/folder on the TV screen via the menu. If I telnet in, I can perform the xmount command and see files on the remote machine without issue.

Am I supposed to see an additional folder other than the usb stick I have inserted in the wdtv? If so, I do not. Any advice?

Fine by me, I wish i had the slightest clue how to edit the firmware, and I'd attempt it myself, but that's my main request for someone to come up with.

Larger image (I mean a large portion of the screen) with an editable screen to enter video information.

I already love my wd media player, but I'd really like to customize each and every file I have to produce some info other than file name, file size, and a picture. But if this is not an option, at least to have an option to full screen the image for the video you've selected.

By the way thank you for taking the time to resize the thumbs, my favorite theme for wdtv so far!

Quick question for the super-experts who know how to create alternative firmwares: can you spot (e.g. in release 1.02.08) where is the byte containing the 10min skip time so that we can patch it with some other value?

I find the 10mins too long and, in my opinion, it would be much better to have e.g. 4min forward and 3min backwards (so that with a few clicks you can get almost anywhere).

I don't see why directional arrows can't be made to skip...ok, if not, after pressing FF, pressing "next" multiple times could be made to skip by 5, 10, 30 mins...I don't see why this is so hard...

Thanks to the little step-by-step guide from Vladimir7 (to be followed rigourously especially for the NFS server configuration part which will help prevent empty NFS folder on WDTV) and combining different things (thanks to wiki.wdtv.org, b-rad.cc/wdlxtv), I'm now able to stream all my medias (music, photos, movies HD or not) wirelessly from my PC to the WDTV without almost no hiccups. This is my configuration :

Hardware:
PC Intel Core 2 Duo running Windows XP Pro
D-Link Router DIR-655
D-Link Wireless USB Adapter DWA-640
WDHDTV naturally

Software:
NFS Server from Windows Services For Unix 3.5
1.02.07_B-RAD.CC_WDLXTV-0.5.3.2.zip

Hi all!

I bought a WD HD TV and a WD My Book Essential Edition 1 TB.

I like the player and the hard disk, but it's difficult to me to move and move the hard disk to the player (PC and TV are in different roms)

I have a ethernet conexion from the TV to the PC, so I'm thinking about custom firmware with LAN enabled in WD HD TV.

My Book World Edition 1 TB with Ethernet

Can I use something like that? A WD My Book World Edition with ethernet.

I want to put the My Book with the PC and connect it to the WD HD through ethernet.

It is possible? And it is possible with the PC turned off? Only My Book and WD HD.

Hi,

I just got my wdtv and I`m using the latest ext3-boot firmware and belkin F5D5055 usb ethernet.
My problem is that with the belkin plugged in, my wdtv won`t boot. it does not even get to the wd logo..
Attached is my messages file if that helps?

Any suggestions?

Would it be possible to load something like truecrypt into one of the custom linux firmwares and use it to unencrypt a hard drive on the fly and play the video? And if it is possible is there enough power in the processor to handle the decrypting and provide a reasonable viewing experience?

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I couldn't find anything with a search.

Is there a way to protect the media content on a USB stick you are using with the WD TV from being copied and better yet, a way to have only your USB stick work in the WD TV? The reason I ask is because I use this unit for digital signage at customer locations and don't want then sticking in there USB or other device or copying content off the USB that I supply them with.

Any ideas ?

I struggled for 2 days until i followed the last line in Farscape's instructions.

"change the scope to the IP of your WDTV" (for Mapsvc.exe in the firewall exceptions even though it was set to all computers)

i have a little question for you:

i've tried to use this little help, find on wdtw wiki, to change the color of the subtitle (.srt).

subtitle.xml was used to display subtitles in old fw 1.01.0x, since 1.02.00 they moved subtitles code from dmaosd to MediaLogic (to fix sync), and now all is hardcoded in this binary.
