Occasionally, when playing an mkv file, I've thought I had the wrong one and gone back to the folder. Then realizing that in fact I may have had the right one, I choose it again. The splash screen with "[To continue playing from where you left off, choose "ok", to restart choose "cancel"]" (I paraphrase) appears. If I choose "ok", then the image is compressed horizontally so that it no longer fills the width of the screen and everyone looks really thin.
I haven't tested it in all circumstances, (i.e. RCA output vs. HDMI, full screen vs. widescreen files and TVs, etc.), but at very least I can replicate it every time I reach that screen.
It ends up with my needing to choose "cancel", restart the video from the beginning, and fast forward to where I need to be. Because occasionally the need to stop and scan the folder tree comes well in the middle of a video, it's quite annoying.
If this has already been reported, my apologies. I didn't see it in the list at the top of this thread. Finally, this is on firmware 1.01.02, but I didn't read a fix for it in 1.02.*
