They did not work in .07 either. they are in iso format, vob format, m2ts format.

So you have isos, vobs, and .m2ts with subs, that do not work? What format are the subs in? The WD supports...Subtitle -SRT (UTF-8), SMI, SUB, ASS, SSA. Did you make the files yourself? Have you looked in the settings menu? I haven't come across a supported sub file that doesn't work, with the exception of language barriers such as the greek issue. Use MediaInfo to find what type of sub files you have.
well, when i use imgburn to burn the iso to disk, i can get subtitles when player it on a dvd player.but when i try to play the same iso file thru media player, it says no subtitle available. For m2ts files(backup of bluray movies), i can scroll thru the different audio options(like english, spanish, directors commentary), but again no subtitles.

I dont have media info software, read about it in this forum, but when i get a chance, i will download and give it a try.

I have several folders that contain only sub-folders, with the video files in the sub-folders. For example, I might have a folder called "Prisonbreak" and then have sub-folders called "Season 1", "Season 2", etc. Is it possible to have an image associated with the top level folder (i.e. the one that contains no video files)? So far I have been unable to do that... All of the advice I have read so far seems to work only if the folder itself contains a video file...

You just name the jpg you are using "folder.jpg" thats it.

If you backed up the BD and used the .sup instead of converting it to .srt, or other supported sub it won't work. You need to run it through SupRip, use ORC, and convert it to a .srt, then remux that into the .m2ts then it will work. Probably the same issue with the DVD iso's.

Can this thing not playback multichannel flac in an mkv container? I just got it, updated it to the latest official firmware, and all the BDs remuxed into mkvs with 5.1 flac play back as stereo. In addition, the audio usually drops out after a minute or so of playback, at which time the video becomes very jittery. An ideas?

Multichannel FLAC or OGG will never be supportet because there is NO Amp / Receiver out there which is able to decode it. 5.1 will only work with dts and Dolby Digital AC3.

i replied to your post in another thread. try testing with some mkv with mpeg2/flac or vc1/flac and see what happens.

Wouldn't the WD TV decode the multichannel flac and output it as lpcm? I mean, they just touted adding flac support in an mkv wrapper in their latest firmware update, but it looks like it's only stereo support. Obviously the WD TV is taking the multichannel flac file and decoding it, but only decoding the L/R front channels. Why couldn't they up this and decode all the channels of the 5.1/7.1 flac file? My receiver isn't capable of decoding 2.1 flac anymore than it is 5.1/7.1, so the WD TV is no doubt capable of decoding flac and putting it out as lpcm, they just need to add support for multichannels.
Multichannel PCM Audio maybe possible to put out over the HDMI Interface but not over the optical Output, it's limited to Stereo PCM up to 16Bit / 48kHz.
This I know.
Are multi-channel FLAC soundtracks all that common?
If you want to digitize your BD collection, decoding to flac allows you space saving benefits while allowing you to not only keep the full fidelity of the original lossless audio, but also get past the down-sampling limits you get with playing back lpcm from a PC etc.

Sounds like the way to go, if hardwares will support it.
What program are you using to covert to multi-channel FLAC, btw?
eac3to is the one stop shop. From a BD file folder on your HD, it will demux the video to an mkv, convert the audio to whatever format you want, and rip the sup from for later OCRing.

Please, please, this WDTV is great, but I really need 1.5x zoom option. A lot of films have aspect ratio like in cinema (2.39:1) and 2x zoom is too much for 16/9 TV. So please, make 1.5x zoom option in new firmware.

Well, how would you like, say, if you recorded your home video in 16:9 and having to have to watch it on a 4:3 TV cropped from the sides, eliminating all the additonal action you captured...you wouldn't like that very much, right? similarly the film director shot in 2,35:1 and would hate you crop his work of art...the zoom is there to close up on a detail to inspect it, not to watch wrongly cropped movies...just my two cents, you may do as you please of course, but I urge the WD TV team not to consider such nonsense...
In my opinion, everyone would have a possibility to choose. For me is more pleasant to watch 16:9 TV screen full of picture, not to have a letterbox. It is good for 4:3 TV. But I understand, that some people don't prefer cropping in all cases. I think that to make a 1,5x zoom option is not difficult. Then all will have a possibility to choose and will be satisfied.

I dont like cropping. I would rather have an option to stretch the video vertically, until it fills the screen. I am talking about those 2.38 aspect ratio movies...

Again, i dont want to argue with those who support watching in original AR only... I just want movie to fill my screen...

No argument, but you really don't mind watching anorexic people?

Stretch a 2.40 movie to fill a 1.33 screen???

You have got to be kidding. People would look like walking flag poles.
Unless you have some sort of anamorphic glasses you wear while watching this?

My only request is the DVD menu. Is there somewhere a public place where the developer give a inside view about the topics under development. Means where ist possible to see what will come perhaps next?

Maybe I am not sure what you are looking for? This is WD direct up to the minute planning on what is coming on the next firmware plus the ability the lead them in the direction you want.

If Im interpreting it right I find the wishes of the user and I can see if WD is considering it for implementation. But , at least for me, its not clear what is really a serious topic or will not come at all. If I take as example my wish for DVD menu then its planned. Nice, but what does it mean? To plan something means not that it will be feasible and feasible doesnt mean it will really come. At least it is something thats fine but I looking also where you can find comments of the developer. I know thats not so common but... Just to see and have feeling how WD see the future of that device. Im a bit afraid that now where they start to speak about the WD 2 they will concentrate more and more to that device and will not implement so much in the current version. But as I said thats quite ok to see that WD is at least willing to have look to the wishes.

I downloaded MediaInfo but it didn't give me any info on the subs. But like I stated before most of my iso movies have subtitles in WD but some just say "subtitles missing", but when I look in vlc there are subs. Can someone tell me how to check the sub type with MediaInfo?

Hi this is my first post, I have been following this thread for a long time having owned the wdtv since January.

One thing that would really improve this is if some freeware was released to enable you to plug your ipod straight in via usb and play the tracks in order. When I connect at the moment it displays the tracks but within folders named f01 - f44 etc. When you go into this the tracks are all in totally random sequence. They tracks play and display artwork and album name which is great but just impossible to locate the album you want to hear. This is obviously down to the itunes software but is there anyway around this?

I believe planned means that have approved the idea and that it it has the ability to do it. It will be implimented on a new firmware at some point. Some things have a started status meaning an engineer is actually writing and testing the new idea to be implemented in the firmware. If they did not have every intention on puting dvd menu on the current WD media player it would not have even reached the planned stage. I am sure the have taken the dvd menu request to the engineer in a meeting that has already taken place and asked him if the media player was capable of doing this.

I think th WD2 will be geared more to having a 1.3HDMI or even possible 1.4 HDMI and would have no relevance in your dvd menu request.
