According to the prices i am seeing these fit my current budget (450 to 500 tops for each tower). I would purchase 4 Bipolar SR-8040BP Surrounds to complete 7.1. Is there another front speaker I'm missing? I would also buy a seperate quality sub.
Hi Ray, the BP 8040 ST is a really good product. If you can fit that into your budget I would do it, no hesitation, assuming you have room for a foot or two behind the speaker to let the bipolars do their thing. SR 8040 BP surrounds will work fine. If you are going to add a sub or two, get a good one (or two) - we make several that will fit the system well. Best, Joe

Is it ok to pair the Mythos center with Promonitor L/R? My viewing angle is similar to yours. I feel that the procenter would match better with promonitor L/R.
Hi DR, yes, the Mythos center will match with ProMonitor L / R. We aim for a family sound with our tweeter design. I always urge folks to use the best center possible given budget and available room to fit the cabinet - it's the most important speaker in the HT system. Thank you for buying DT! Best, Joe

Saving 10-15 dollars by getting a generic mount will be total disaster if the speakers fall of the wall, which has happened to a lot of members on the forum i read in the past.

Thanks Guys. I am off to Best Buy to get a pair of Promount 90s.

Here is where I could use the guidance. Thinking about replacing the VR-10 with a Mythos Eight for the center channel. Currently the VR-10 is in a cabinet just below the 60" Plasma TV (TV sits on top of cabinet, NOT wall mounted) and it sounds pretty good (although at times dialogue can be difficult to make out). If I buy the Mythos Eight for a center channel, I would have to move the center channel to wall mounted ABOVE the TV because it will not fit in the cabinet where the VR-10 currently resides. Incidentally (but importantly), the TV sits about 14" in front of the wall to allow the TV stand to fit on top of the cabinet and to allow clearance for the wires et al in back of the cabinet. Also, there is not any OEM bracket that would allow me to "aim" the Mythos Eight toward the listening position if it is mounted on-wall above the TV. Given these constraints, I am not sure if I will notice a marked improvement in the center channel sound, which is what I am hoping to achieve. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I know much of this is subjective but would appreciate anyone's thoughts who cares to share them. Might pull down one of the Eights and place it on the top of the cabinet right in front of the TV just to see how the sound compares - but this would only approximate what I will end up with due to the above TV positioning most likely required. ALso any recommendations for "aiming" the Eights if mounted above the TV would be appreciated. (see photo for TV and cabinet arrangement).

Thank you!
-Jim

I have the perfect solution for you! Check out the Speaker Stand here, available at Amazon and BestBuy.com. This company offers different models to accommodate speakers of various sizes.

It is designed to mount on flat-panels. I had one like this on my 60" Sony SXRD. It supported my Paradigm Center Channel speaker and was very stable.

You can use the leveling foot on the Mythos 8 or 9 to aim it downwards, to point directly at your listening position. For best sound, make sure the front edge of your speaker extends just beyond the edge of the shelf.

That looks like a good alternative. My question is what does that extra stress/weight on the flat panels frame do to it over time?

Nothing .... most likely. Those frames are pretty strong and can handle the small additional stress for longer than the lifespan of the typical TV.

I've been doing my research and the Mythos line seems like the nice blend of aesthetics and sound quality I've been looking for. The newer line of speakers are out of my budget and the older speakers look like outstanding deals.

My question is: Should I go with Mythos Four fronts, Mythos Three center, and Mythos Two rears? Or Mythos Eight fronts and center, and Mythos Gem rear? Or any other combination that uses these speakers or similar that some of you may have had experience with? Not sure if the floor-standing Four's with the smaller mids are better speakers then the Eights with the bigger mids but need a stand. Information and professional reviews on these speakers is scarce.

This system will likely be paired with a SVS sub. Music is slightly more important then movies, but I do greatly value the epic movie experience. Any personal insight would be greatly appreciated . Thanks!

I've had a 5.1 setup since 2005 with Mythos Fours and a Three across the front and UIW BP/A in wall surrounds. Sounds great. I can't compare it to any of the newer Mythos speakers. But, I've never felt a need to upgrade.

Hi all, I have a pair of Mythos STS, pair of BP8040ST, and a Mythos Eight for sale. All new, never opened. PM me if interested. Thanks!

Hi Dapala, I like the first of the two system you propose. The Mythos 8 is really a wall mounted speaker. I hope this helps - best, Joe

Thanks Joe! After doing more research I found no options to use stands for the Eights because wall mounting is not an option. So Im set on the Fours, unless I can find a great deal on One towers.

Now I'm having a hard time finding a good deal on the Mythos Three. Im wondering if pairing the Mythos Eight as the center with the Mythos Four towers would be as good or better then the Three? Since the Eight can be had for about the same price right now. I know matching the center to the fronts is very important in a home theater setup so I want to get it right.

Dapala, I cannot speak from first hand experience, but I believe the whole mythos line is "voice matched" so that you could mix and match whatever mythos speakers you want and still have good seamless sound across the entire soundstage. Newegg.com prices on the Eight have been fluctuating between 339 and 399 over the last year - if it is currently 399, check back every day for about a week or two and you will likely see it drop to $349. I am using Eights as my surround speakers and could not be happier, and am leaning very strongly towards replacing my Boston Aoustics VR10 center with an Eight based on how great they sound as surrounds. I am running my beloved Boston Acoustics T1030s (from the early 90s before Boston lost their way) for my mains, so I can't comment on how the Eights would sound with the Fours. I really don't think you could go wrong either way...

I'm looking for a good used/refurb pair of Mythos ST or STSs. If anyone has a pair they're looking to sell or knows of a pair available, please PM me. I'd consider a new pair for the right price too.

Also, any advice on pairing the best center with ST. I know the Mythos 9 or 10 are the matched centers but was curious is anyone has used a CS-8080HD or CS-8060HD with the ST or STS and what their thoughts were? I currently have a Mythos 7 paired with my Ones and they seem like a great match but probably underpowered for the STs.

Thanks!

Search for a post from im1 . It is a few posts above yours on pg. 171. He/She has a pair of STS for sale. User holyindian may be looking to sell his ST set. You may want to PM these two users and see if you can work out a deal. But, I can tell you that a local purchase is best. These are heavy speakers and expensive to ship. They may also be hard to ship without the original packaging.

This has been discussed extensively on this thread. I myself considered the CS-80X0 and decided on the Mythos Nine, as the tweeter and midrange drivers in the Mythos Nine are identical to those used in the STS. The CS-80X0 uses different tweeters and midrange drivers. The difference may not be significant, but when you are spending this kind of money, you want a perfect match. Search for posts from holyindian for more on this subject.

Hi Dapala, yes, JM is right -you can't go wrong. The 8's will sound very good with the Fours. Enjoy - best, Joe

The STS center is the Mythos 9 and the ST center is the Mythos 10.
Guys have tried the CS8060 with the STS and the CS8080 with the ST's , I still haven't tried this myself but those center channels have more lower end output then the 9 and 10 do. Honestly I have done so many Mythos systems and never once in any setup or room did I feel I needed a better center channel then the matching model. I also wall mount most of the center channels and that where they sound the best. I do however for the sheer hell of it want to bring a CS8080 center home and try it out in my My system. I have the Mythos ST's , 10 center and 10 surrounds .

Mantis10 Thanks for the feedback. I've heard the 10 with STs at an Ultimate Electronics demo room (closed down a few years ago frown.gif ) and I was blown away with the STs but wasn't that impressed by the 10. Note that it was sitting on a shelf below the TV on media furniture that's similar to mine.

If ya ever demo the CS8080 with your setup, let us know what ya think.

I've got the 8080 center with 2 STSs and I love it. I don't have a sub, so the bass from 3 powered speakers really does a nice job. Dialogue is super clear, I don't notice any difference in the timbre as things pan across (but I'm not an audiophile per se).

I'm using a old CLR2002 as a center with the ST in my living room with very good result. Just another option for you.

I'm facing a tough decision choosing between Mythos 4 and BP-8020ST to replace my Swan D2.1se+. These units are both floor-demo and cost almost the same at $600/pair. I currently have CS-8060 center, and Emotiva Ultra12 Sub. The BP8020 sounded good to me and I like the flexibility of adjusting the bass output when needed. But I am unable to listen to the Mythos 4 because the salesperson left me for another customer and I have to go.
Anybody had experience on both and what's your take on these speakers?

Hello Dennis, I can tell you that the engineering team here sure is proud of the BP-8020 ST. At it's suggested retail price I think it is a heck of a deal. I hope this helps- best, Joe

Finally pulled the trigger and got a pair of ST Towers. I will pick them up this week. Then my 15 month old STS will be for sale. Looking forward to the upgrade.

It's a good upgrade . When I was in the market for new speakers , I demo'd the hell out of the STS and ST. The ST came home with me for many reasons. I didn't care they where more money after my intense VS shootout.

I've been waiting for one to hang out in our showroom for more then a day so I can take one home and VS it with the Mythos 10. I'm not unhappy with the Mythos 10 as I have it dialed in perfectly. It's mounted above my TV and I feel it sounds perfect as my front 3 work amazingly together. I feel many pick on center channels but I'm willing to bet they are not calibrated or placed correctly for the given room. In my years , I have never thought the center channel of any matching system failed to match or deliver the same performance of the rest of the system.

Still I want to give the 8080 a spin for a weekend and see if it's worth doing so. If so It will stay here. I will post my findings.
