The speaker cutouts/behind-the-screen-wall-wall has taken by far longer than anything else in the room.

Hopefully tomorrow it will be finished!

I cut in the first coat of primer right after these pics. I'm already sick of painting!

looking great John !!!

For some reason, the primer looks bluish..but it is grey.

Update:

Finished cutting-in first layer of primer!

Equipment Update:

1. Screen will get here tomorrow (Wednesday)
2. Oppo will get here Thursday
3. Pre/Pro will get here Friday.

The bad thing is that I have to work the next 4 days. Why can't things get here when I'm off for several days?

Back to work.

Just sanded every surface with 220 grit sandpaper. The difference is absolutely amazing now - the walls are smooooooooooooooth.

I just have to dust/microfiber all of the walls to get rid of the dust. That'll likely be it for today!

Progress looks great John!

The false screen wall will go 20 inches in front of this wall - this allows plenty of room for the 3 speakers to be adjusted and the huge subs. Flexibilility!

John, the bar area and soffit looks awesome! I love the different angles in the space. I too was a bit confused with the screen wall. Just wondering whether you will be able to get your speakers at the proper height. Obviously, you won't be hanging the screen right near the floor. But perhaps it's just the angle that the picture was taken. How high will you be hanging the screen?

Sorry, Queen, I didn't see the question. The holes are 50ish inches tall - my speakers are 38 inches tall and I will have a 11.5 inch tall stage.

The false screen wall will be located 20 inches in front of that wall.

I wanted flexibility to have plenty of room behind the speakers as the subs are going to be rather large (and for the future as well, just in case!). I should even need to have the speakers in the holes...more for access than anything else as this point I would guess.

It'll all make sense as time goes onward.

Equipment Update:

- SMX screen arrived. Huge box!

- Oppo BDP-83 arrived.

I won't get much of a chance to play with stuff until Sunday when I'm off.

Unfortunately.

I did take the manual out, though. Maybe I'll make some progress today.

6/09/09 - Update:

I guess I missed it but I just had my 1 year Logan anniversary. For the record - I finished HT 2.0, sold my NY house, moved, started and passed Logan on HT 3.0.

Theater Update:

I took the Anthem out of the box and updated to the latest firmware (probably the easiest updating I've ever done on a complex piece of HT equipment!).

1. I wiped the walls down after sanding them with 220 grit sandpaper after 1st coat of primer. The difference is HUGE.

2. I vacuumed AGAIN. How in the world does drywall/sanding create so much dust?

3. I damp-sponged the screen wall, vacuumed it.

4. I am 95% done SilentSealing (acoustical caulk) the HT -the drywall joint at the floor, cutouts, etc. I have 1 tube left for the bathroom and few touchups....should be just about perfect. I HATE caulking.

After a short break, I'll go finish caulking then I'll start putting on the 2nd coat of primer. I don't know how far I'll get.....

Ok, all 12 quart sized SilentSeal tubes are finished...just enough! Painting second coat of primer.

Tired of painting yet?

More than tired! I only got about 1/4 of the way through the second coat. All of these soffits/angles, etc. are really architecturally cool and in the end will be neat for a HT...but all of the cutting in is a pain in the butt.

So far, I've used about 6 gallons of primer. Ugh.

Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark, isn't it Tom?

Ok, a couple of days since my last update.

Finished 2nd coat of primer! I used around 9 gallons of primer!

The biggest difference in getting drywall dust up off the floor -- mopping. It is amazing the crap the comes up and how much cleaner it makes the room.

I also finally got a new toy!

I had a very old and worn no-name miter saw.... the HD close by was closing out the Makita 1013FL 10 inch sliding compound saw... Picked it up and a miter saw stand (the Ridgid one with wheels). Very slick setup.

Really great looking theater, I just found the thread today. A lot of progress in the 7-8 months you've been working on it. I am guessing completion date is maybe the end of this year? Or are you hoping for sooner than that?

I'm hoping by the end of the year.

I was very excited to get sheetrock up....until I realized just how much more work is ahead.

...especially now I have to deal with all of the design decisions and I HATE that!

Next steps...

Painting the ceiling.

The options I see seem to be Behr flat black (Mickey Mouse Ears) vs. SW vs. Ben Moore. Anyone have thoughts on a good flat black ceiling paint?

I've used Mouse Ears black and Ben Moore "Black". I was told Ben Moore "Black" is as black as it comes. They were wrong. The mouse ears at HD is even blacker. Actually the ben moore black almost looks like a dark charcoal grey next to the mouse ears.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear! Thanks! Does it mar a lot? (ie: accidently bumping it causes marks on the paint?)

Looking good dude. Sorry your thread isn't getting much love. I remember those days on my build thread

I used the mouse ear black on my screen wall and columns and have been happy with it. To date, Sherwin Williams has been my favorite paint to use. I went with a deep brown for the ceiling, just to have something a little different.

Keep the pics coming.
