The screenwall will be built 20 inches from the rear of the stage so that there is 30 inches depth at the maximum point of the curve on the stage. It just looks much deeper because of the cut-outs in the back.

Once the screen-wall is built, it'll look like normal...

I was....cleaning and had to get all of the stuff off the ground! I'm more than a tad bit OCD and I hate having everything unorganized/dirty. ....that might be sharing a littletoo much!

Yeah, my back is doing much better. I had to take it easy for 3 days and do absolutely nothing. I am still very stiff and it spasms if I'm not careful, though...

Having the drywall delivered at $1.00 per sheet was the best best bestest (can you tell?) money that I have spent on the HT so far. Even after delivery and bringing it into the basement, it was still $1.50/sheet cheaper than HD/Lowes!

Yeah, there are a few outlets. I didn't know where I wanted to place stuff so I wanted to be prepared.

I've been working like a madman lately so I haven't had time to play...I mean work...in the HT.

Cabinet guy is crawling along doing small bits every couple of days. I finally told him that I will pay the other half of the cabinets when he's done...that might light a fire under him!

I think I will go black for the carpet on the stage as I like the look and it would likely let me have a little more freedom on the carpet in the rest of the room.

To Do List Before Carpet:

- finish base cabinets
- paint rest of the room (although not mandatory)
- make and install 1 inch firring strips along the floor for the 703/GOM and baseboards
- tile bathroom (again not necessary before)

My wife has given me an ultimatum: I have to get all of my equipment, 7 recliners, etc. out of the rest of the house before Thanksgiving.

Now, I have a deadline.

The subs won't be on the stage - they'll be sitting on the concrete/carpet.

The 3 speakers will be sitting on the stage tucked into the cutouts for ease of adjustment, etc.

Once I get things in place it will all make sense. I'm just not that good at taking pics -- it really is hard to get accurate perspective/dimensions/colors/lighting on an el-cheapo digital camera.

Pic of the Upper Cabinet and where the Bar TV will go. The shorter upper cabinet is designed so that I can place a popcorn maker on the counter. I will have it vented to the outside (you can see the ductwork in the soffit above the cabinets. I'll run it through the cabinet and you won't be able to see it!




Perspective of the Angled Upper Cabinets:





The Cabinets are Cherry and will be clear-coated only - no stain. Cherry tends to darken as the wood oxidizes over time. It will get deeper red over the next several years.

My Punch List:

1. Cut 1 inch total width firring strips/baseboard to run along the floor prior to carpet in order to get ready to put Linacoustic/GOM on the walls along with the track.

2. Paint the stairway ceiling and walls.

3. Paint the bathroom ceiling and walls.

4. Tile the bathroom. (optional before carpet)

5. Paint the rest of the basement that won't be covered by Linacoustic.


I'm feeling ready again to get some stuff done in the basement. Funny how I hit a lull and then get motivated again.

So, my plan:

My baseboards will be 5.25 inches tall. I have to find out if they are 1/2 inch or 3/4 inches wide.

I will need to install firring strips to flush it out to 1 inch wide to match the width of the fabricmate track.

Following Cathan's thread (thanks, man -- you did a great job of showing how you did everything), I will aim to have the fabric install flush with the baseboard.

You know, I think builder's must ignore stairwells as much as possible.

The corners aren't square, the mudwork is terrible, and the paintjob is poor at best.

I already sanded/touched up/primered the walls but I had ignored the ceiling. I started cutting in the ceiling with fresh ceiling paint as it appeared to be only primer on the ceiling...and it makes a HUGE difference...but those corners. Arg.

I think I'm gonna have to scrape/patch them cuz they'll drive me crazy.

The HT Nobel prize. Nice.

I'm not brave enough to tally my runs to HD/Lowes. I know my record, though, is 5 in one day.

Any Thoughts on This?

I've gotten several carpet quotes and they vary by several thousand dollars....

I am having 13 stairs/landing/3 stairs done, a riser, a curved stage, a small under-the-stairs closet (= equipment room), and approximately 800 additional sq ft done.

Good padding, carpet strips (on concrete).

Likely will go with a Masland carpet (not the cheapest but not the most expensive)...

I like the Athens, too...plus it is significantly softer than the other choice.

The carpet guy is coming again tomorrow to measure more specifically as he says this will be one of the more challenging rooms he's done...and he is really excited to do a HT!

We'll see what the price will be...I'm somewhat afraid.

Theoretically, some of my cherry trim should be coming in tomorrow...I might actually get a little installed before I have to work tomorrow (a mid-afternoon shift).

Anyone have any more thoughts or opinions on the carpets above?
