HTPC Acer X3200 and Acer X1200 crashes when it is connected to a Samsung HCN5527 TV

I recently bought an Acer Aspire X1200 from tigerdirect. Seems like a great PC with one big problem.
Anytime I try to boot the PC while connected to my aging Samsung 55'' RPTV, the Acer crashes!!! Yep.. a big blue screen of death. Happens every time I start it while connected to the TV. If I start it while connected to a different monitor, it works great.

I connected it to the TV using a HDMI to DVI cable.


I even returned that PC and bought another Acer Aspire X1200 with same result. Both the Acers had an AMD Phenom X2 or X3 CPU with integrated NVIDIA GE Force 8300 graphics.

Has anyone else seen something like this??

I would really love to buy one of these PCs and have them be my HTPCs, but I am wondering how many other PCs my TV is incompatible with.

Any help would be great.

If there is any other type of video your TV accepts, such as VGA or component, I would try that. Or, look for a BIOS update for the motherboard inside that Acer. It is likely that it is some type of EDID issue, so a product like the DVI Doctor for $50 would likely solve the problem with your TV.

I already tried updating both the BIOS and the NVIDIA drivers, but that did not solve the problem.

My TV has other inputs and the TV is working fine when connected to my receiver via Component as well as the DVI connection. However, when I connected the HTPC through the same DVI connection, it crashed.

Also, if I connect the TV after computer comes up, then I can connect the TV using HDMI--> DVI cable and the HTPC is able to display to the TV. If however, the TV is connected while the computer is booting up, the PC crashes.

Unfortunately, the Acer X1200 and X3200's have only an HDMI or a VGA output and my TV does not have VGA input so the best I can do is a HDMI--> DVI cable.

Do you still think it is an EDID issue and I should get DVI Doctor?
