I've used everything from a match to a butane lighter to a blow dryer lol. If a blow dryer is all you have, it'll work, but it needs to be one that gets pretty hot. Most have some sort of butane lighter for candles and what not, seems to work the quickest and easiest for me without getting a mini heat gun.

So question about Tech Flex, is there any benefit going that way when making nice looking cables or is it mainly for cosmetic? Either way I would love to give that a shot because they look so nice.

99.9% of the time...it's for aesthetics
either way they look amazing!

Well it looks like the e5bi bookshelf is a 5mm thread. Not sure what length it is, but I'm sure most 5mm one's that come with mounts are fine. I tried the 1/4"-20 and it was too large so I'm assuming it's a 5mm. Has anyone used these mounts? They seem decent priced for a speaker that already has a single threaded insert like the EMP's

is a 10/32 too small?
Well 10/32's would be about 7.5mm...way to big. Did 10/32's work for you or something? lol

I really wanted to get the surrounds up this weekend, but I guess I'll have to wait and order those mounts today. It's truly amazing how there is NOTHING around here as far as home audio shops. There used to be a few places, but they went out due to Best Buy (which is so overprice and most of the people that work are so stupid it's not even funny.....used to work there before going to college). Sad that people think what's at BB is the cream of the crop and these $1,000 HTIB are just awesome. I mean they had the Elite 70" in Magnolia playing on a HTIB....really?....really?

No I do not have the surrounds. I was just suggesting 10/32 because you said 1/4-20 was too big and the most common next size down is the 10/32.
10/32 would be larger tongue.gif

I'll be the guinea pig though for these mounts. Good price, seem to be solid construction and good company. I'll report back. I still need to do a nice review of the e55ti as a 2.0 and the e55ti/e56ci as a front 3. Maybe I'll combine it with the 5.0 set in to one big review. I'll tell you what...the g/f wanted to watch Brave this weekend so I downloa......*purchased* the blu-ray copy lol......and in the beginning the dad turns around to a bear and it goes from pretty quite to VEERY loud immediately. It stayed extremely clear, detailed and the stage stayed wide throughout this dynamic passage. My g/f looked over with big ol' eyes and said "that sounded good" and she doesn't care about any of this stuff hahaha.

Oh and the point in the beginning of Drive when he's making a getaway and goes under the bridge...the heli fly's past....HOLY CRAP! cool.gif

.....all of this was done at -5db to -8db on my 663 so it was LOOOUD biggrin.gif

So does anyone have any suggestions for tv stands?? It's extremely hard to find one that will fit the e56ci, but they're out there. I know about Salamander, Standout Designs and BDI (i think that's the name) but I'm not quite sure I want to drop $1500+ on a stand quite yet. They are VEERY nice though!

I've found these so far and just wondering if anyone had them or has seen them? They've got the black one here at a local shop, but it's the 60" version. I'll be going with the 70"+ version of each one. They all seem to have side cabinets larger than 17.25" so they'll fit an AVR and most have a large enough opening for the e56ci to fit. I REALLY wish you could get them in Expresso or a walnut color because the "Danish Cherry" on the Ashton Place stand is way too cherry for my house. The black isn't too bad and will likely be my choice when I'm ready to buy. I wish it was a tad taller so the center sat up a bit higher, but I guess you can't have everything lol

Legends Downtown Loft ; black, 76" long and will fit the e56ci and avr's/components on the sides; http://www.thesimplestores.com/p-48674-legends-furniture-downtown-loft-black-76-tv-stand-dl1231blk.aspx

Legends Ashton Place
; I would go with this stand as I like it more, but the color is too cherry; I've got a few gallons of the stain they used when they built my house and it's only a few months old (still good i'd hope) so I wonder if I could restain the piece;http://www.thesimplestores.com/p-48625-legends-furniture-ashton-place-danish-cherry-74-tv-stand-ap1231dnc.aspx

They've actually got another one that's called "Brooklyn Loft" that's like the black one, but brown....but it's also got cherry in it from the description so I wouldn't take that chance unless I could see it in person like the other 2. Has anyone seen these, used these or know if it'd be possible to restain the Ashton Place stand? I'm not sure what is veneer and what's not on the stand so no telling how it'd take a stain. I know there are primers out there that you can just spray on and go at it now...maybe that's the route to take instead of sanding it down, etc etc.

No it's not. 1/4-20 is larger. Trust me I know. I use screws almost on a daily basis. Try them. they might work
post #1152 of 1663
I thought 1/4"-20 was just....1/4" (.25" or 6.35mm) and the "20" meant 20 thread. Guess I was wrong. Either way, the mounts I had only had the 1/4-20 so useless. I'll have to try out something and the Pinpoint mounts come with a ton of different sizes so I'm sure one of them will work.
you are correct, but the 10/32 is .190". With all the screws they sent you , you just might have the right ones like you said.

Yup you're right. Just looked up the "bolt size charts" online and it seems like the 10-32 is smaller.

.......though you did say 10/32...not 10-32....so I win. Lol jk. Thanks for the clarification wink.gif

Hahaha. When I was typing that I was thinking that I should use a hyphen here instead. Then when I was typing it again I thought that I should just type it the same way as I did before so there would be no confusion. You got me on that

Hello all!!

Looking to pick up these speakers (or at least demo them). From what I've read on this thread, most, if not all, seem to be pretty happy with their purchase. I had a question for those who have the E55TiR's and the E56TiR. My current set up is a dedicated HT. It's 14x25x8. Do you guys think that these will fill the room ok? I'm looking for a budget speaker that won't fall on it's face when asked to perform. (I have an SVS pci 20-39 for bass duty.)

I was looking at these, or a set of used AV123 850's w/ the RCS200 center. I could buy the Rockets used or these new. Since the Rockets are used and parts are extremely hard to come by... well, you can see my dilemma. I'm sure comparing the 850's and 200 isn't a fair test though, eh?

Thanks,
Scott

14x25x8 = 2800cuft

My room is around 20x20x10, so around 4000cuft and open concept type of space. The e55ti's fill it out VERY well without a hint of strain. I don't see you having any issue with that space. You're right about parts/warranty issues/etc being a negative for the AV123's, but judging by reviews those also seem to be a nice speaker. Ultimately it's up to you, but you seem to have your mind made up wink.gif. You can return the EMP's if you don't like them so why not give them a try

Not sure where you're located, but on the off chance you're in OK you can demo mine. Who am I kidding....I only know of 2 other people from OK on this forum AND audioholics hahah
post #1158 of 1663
I have to say that I am very happy with the e55Ti speakers. I have them upstairs in my theater and when I play music really loud, they seem to perform great. I can hear the music very good through out the house with no distortion. I do have them connect to an Emotiva XPA-3 amp though. They are very good in movies and that is my main use for them. I wish I had the bigger center speaker they have. The one I have is the e5ci.and the sub I have and the e55ti's overpower it. I have to turn the center channel volume up higher.
Guess you'll just have to upgrade...wink.gif

Thanks for the quick reply.

I wish I could come demo them but, I'm in Ohio. Thanks for the offer though.

So, I may have to just pull the trigger. I mean, from what I've read here they sound fantastic. Plus, the 30 days to demo is a very good deal.

Yes I know, but I am waiting on that badboy to go on sale.
I hope they go on sell but it might be a while. Now I'm trying to decide if buying the E5ti for the 7.2 setup would be to much VS. a pair of E5bi or another set of E55wi as my side speakers. Either way I might have a few months to think about it.
If I was spending your money I would go with the e55wi for the surrounds. I dont think that towers are necessary for the surrounds. Besides that, you can put them anywhere on the wall out of the way of furniture or whatever. I am a fan of Bi-poles too. I wish i had them instead of my klipsch surrounds but at least they are bi-poles.
yeah I've got a pair right now of e55wi, and I was thinking about getting dipole set to see how that sounds with the full system, but the book shelf speakers are small and I hear not bad sounding either.
Been a few weeks here for me since I had my BF shipment delayed until after the New Year's (too busy planning a proposal to my future wife!)..
I've only got the Front's (e55ti) and Center (e56i) hooked up so far and will be throwing the sub and pair of surrounds together this weekend. Will post pictures once I'm all done as well.
So far so good. Went with the red burl and the finish is *amazing*.. Not fire truck red or cherry at all.. Nice deep dark wood tone - way better than I had hoped for..

I did do some initial listening (music - about 2 hours) and to be honest, I need to spend more time with them. I think I chose a really poor song to kick things off with (sufjan stevens - age of adz) and everything was total mud and claustrophobic. BUT, I pushed on and listened to quite a bit more - Joanna Newsom, Cloud Cult, Andrew Bird, Norah Jones, Van Morrison - and well, damn.. That's when things changed. Totally became everything I wanted out of these as the 2 hours went on. Not sure if they opened up and "broke in" or what, but suddenly all the nuance and clarity came through - possibly just better song choices. I've also just ran a quick listen to the first song again on some headphones I've had for about 10 years that I absolutely love and guess what - that song is just simply claustrophobic (I guess I chose it for it's wide range and i love the mixing on it - but yeah, it's kind of all over the place)..

So I shall continue to listen to much much more this weekend once I have some time and the rest of the speakers hooked up. I'm still a bit skeptical and will be very critical while testing but I will say I haven't worked out any placement beyond a basic distance to separation ratio and a bit of toe in.. No EQ either, this is just a straight two channel source being pumped through without any processing.

To be continued!

If you want to see what these guys have in 'em, try some of these...

- Chris Jones - Long After You're Gone (great lyrics, great recording quality..great track)
- Alan Taylor - Colour To The Moon (Alan Taylor's voice is so deep and has so much depth in this track, but the lower end never sounds fat, bloated or exaggerated)
- Nils Lofgren - Keith Don't Go
- anything off Chesky, B&W, Focal or any other of the well known tests discs
- Wayman Tisdale - If You Want Me To Stay
- Literally anything from Alice in Chains self titled album from the MTV Unplugged sessions

Anyone else have "go to" songs?

Getting closer! Ha! I'm in Columbus, so that' still quite a jump. Although - I do need to make a trip to Cabellas. So, while I'm up there.... smile.gif They're opening a Cabellas here in town in March and I soooo can't wait!

At any rate...

I haven't seen to many pictures in this thread. Would you guys mind posting some?

For a budget speaker, I'm pretty excited to try these out! Especially since you guys are raving about the voice clarity, the way they disappear and also how they will fill my HT.
