I would probably go with the BIC PL-200 for $280 via an offer at www.acousticsounddesign.com

Black, but I had it running with red burl towers.

Darn, that's a great deal on that sub though, I am sure someone will snatch it up.

Hey Guys, i have a question about the on-wall Empteks. How far do they sit from the wall when mounted? With the mount they come with, it looks like they stick out a far bit.
Specs show them being 5-5/8" deep, so with a bracket I would assume 6". Generally you would want to cut a hole in the wall for the wires and let the speaker sit flush. Some friends of mines have similar on-wall speakers and they sit pretty much flush with the front of their plasma, it looks good.
The mounts they come with doesn't look like they are able to sit flush at all. Have you seen the manual for mounting them?

Not totally flush, but it looks like an inch or so. Maybe shoot them an email and ask if they can give you a precise depth for the mount. Brian over at EMP tek is very helpful.

Hopefully no one beats me to it. Trying to use it behind my seating and an 18in upfront

Good idea actually. I think i will do that. Thanks!

I just wanted to give a little update to my EMPTek black ash e55Ti towers, e5Bi bookshelfs and e56Ci center. I've had these speaker sense March and they are now fairly "broken in". The speakers are paired with some klipsch RSX-5 bookshelf speakers as the rear surrounds. The e5Bis are used as the side surrounds. The front three channels are driven using an emotiva XPA-3 amp. The receiver is a Pioneer Elite SC-05. The speakers are also paired with a custom built sub using a Mach5Audio IXL 15.2.2 subwoofer powered by a EP2500. From day 1 I was impressed with these speakers! Im in the military and my funding is very limited for what my wife calls "toys". These speakers for the price provide the greatest sound for the dollar. My father has some Canton Ergos 690s and while musically these are a little behind, in home movie / theater is when these speakers really shine. My family watches a lot of kids movies and even for movies like Epic and The Croods they sound awesome. Put on any of the Transformer movies or Iron Man and these babies come alive! Sense I received these in march they have sounded better and better and now that they are broken in a alot of times I leave the sub off. The Klipsch RSX-5's while not the best choice for rear surrounds, being left over from my previous surrounds do not hurt the cohesion of the emptek system. My biggest complaint with the EMPteks is the mounting system for the e5Bi bookshelfs. The nut the secures EMPs mounting bracket inside the speaker has broken off, on both bookshelfs, nothing an epoxy didnt fix. I think if I do it over again I would have purchased the e55Wi for surrounds instead of the bookshelfs but again I am more than satisfied with this system and highly encourage individuals on a budget to get these speakers. I think given the size of my subwoofer cabinet replacing the 15 with and 18 is next on the list and adding the e55Wis for surround to replace the Klipsch RSX-5. If you are on the fringe about not bbeing able to listen before you buy take it from me who was nervous as well and use EMPs free 30 day in home trial you will not be dissapointed!!

Wifey and baby are out right now....it's been awhile since I've had the time and house alone to listen to music at higher than normal SPL's. Still amazed. I'm sure it'd be even better complimented with better subs

Anyone know anything about EMP's black friday plans?

Im with you ousoooner. Did you pair yours with an external amp or running off of the receiver?
Running off the 1712 and they seem to handle it just fine
post #2029 of 3175
They are fairly easy speakers to drive, my father has an emotiva xpa-2 for his canton ergo 690s. That is one of his biggest complaints with the cantons is they require so much power. His Denon 3808 thermal cut out alot so he get the Emotiva and even after an hour will thermal out.

Brian mentioned there would likely be a Black Friday sale, but as to what would be included he was not sure. I am hoping it's the same as last year, would love to get an E56Ci at 40% off biggrin.gif

EMP arrived on Saturday.

I'm surprised they didn't throw in a white glove -- packaging was great!

This beauty is dressed ...

... and she looks absolutely fantastic naked!

Dimple on left. :-( Not quite "Rocket" killers ...

Small dimples on right. :-( Thankfully they are impossible to see more then a foot away. :-)

Sturdy banana posts!

Stubborn banana plug!

Don't forget to remove the plastic protective sheath!

A beautiful "tail" :-)

Absolutely gorgeous

Will post thoughts on how they sound "soonish" ...
You probably could have EMP replace that speaker, mine don't have any dimples in them. Also, the towers come with the metal braces that attach to the bottom, for added stability.

Are you sure that is supposed to be removed? I have some like that on other speakers that are supposed to remain as a preventative measure against short circuiting stray wires.... Not that it should matter but just a thought....

Those are some good looking speakers!

I didn't remove the plastic covers on mine.

The dimples are VERY tiny -- less then 1/4 the size of a golf ball dimple. It was a total PITA to get the camera aligned to even see them! They are that small.

Since they were on BOTH speakers out-of-the-box I think it is just poor veneer / production quality. I mean for the price can't really complain, but yeah maybe I will email EMP and confirm if this is "normal" or not.

Yes I saw the metal brace. Thought about using it. The rubber feet are "hidden" so went with that look. smile.gif

Hmm, I tried my banana plugs and thought the connection wasn't really a "good" fit.

I'm getting new banana plugs this week so I'll try again with the plastic sheath on and see. Maybe you're right -- maybe they should stay on?? *shrugs*

None of mine are a good fit either and I left the plastic on. I think I just need to spread the plug a bit on the banana plugs.

Ah, the preventive against shorts would explain it. I thought they would only be used while being moved / shipped to prevent any damage in transit. But yeah, since you can't see them anyways and they are stationary guess it doesn't really matter in the end. smile.gif

The fake veneer is definitely very nice. cool.gif

Before you do that could you try removing one of the sheaths and see how the banana plugs fit please?

I'm curious to know if they fit better or not on another pair. Probably should email EMP and ask ... ;-)

The plastic covers don't effect the actual connection, I agree with NicksHitachi that it is probably to protect against possible shortages from a stray wire. I have seen the covers on other speakers as well.
