I emailed EMP this morning. Here is the "official" answer from Brian over at EMP on what the plastic sheaths are for:
It won’t hurt anything to remove them.
Ok, here's a pic of the finished set up for now.
AVR is a Pioneer SC-1222-K
DVD/BR is a new Oppo BDP-103
Plasma is an older 720P Samsung
The cabinet is actually meant to hang the TV from, but
it was pretty flimsy, so we opted to set it on the stand.
So for now the center channel is up top.
With grills on:
My old trusty Klipsch SW-12. Still cranks out the bass. Excuse the mess ; )
Grills off with U-571 playing:
Still tweaking the settings on the Pioneer, but really love the sound
I'm getting out of the EMP's. They play LOUD and very clear.
Oh, one other thing. When the speakers were first delivered, there
was a hole punched in the center channel box. I opened it up while
the driver was there and everything seemed fine. The plastic and bag
were not punctured and I felt along the edges and thought I was good.
After getting it unpacked, there had been some minor damage along
the bottom edge. This is a super close up with my camera:
I emailed Brian Tracy at EMP and he offered me 2 options. Return it
for a new one or he would give me a credit to keep this one. His offer
was very generous on the credit, so I kept it.
Great speakers, great value and excellent customer support!
Ok, back downstairs to play some more ; )
If past black friday deals are any indication this is what we should expect...
