passed 100Hz. When you turn the sub fq all the way up it bypasses its filter. some subs have a switch for that. Let the avr do the filtering. You dont want to have 2 filters overlapping each other. If you set your speakers to small they will sound the best because of the signal sent to them and the sub will get all fq below 80 hz if that is what you set the avr crossover to. let the sub handle all the bass because it will sound better and dont set the crossover too high on the avr because then you will start to get unwanted sounds and maybe some dialog sent to the sub.

The EMP looks good, but it only goes down to 35Hz. I would have a hard time spending money on the EMP when I could get a Hsu, Rhythmic, or SVS will go a lot lower, with more wattage, for the same money.

To each their own. I guess if your listening to music this is ok but for HT not so much. Why turn the crossover on your sub down to 80hz instead of letting your avr do the filtering? This setting should let the sub blend well with your speakers.

If you want the best sub go with SVS or HSU. If you want a good sub that matches the rest of your speakers at a great price then go for the 1010i. I got E55Ti, E56Ci, 1010i and E55Wi as a package during the Black Friday sale. Lets be clear that this setup shakes my sofa when I play movies.

I went with SVS due to their awesome customer services they had, every question I asked was dealt with in no more than 24 hours and always did a follow up with me to make sure my questions were answered to my expectations which impressed me a lot, I not sure if it's the same with the other companies like HSU or Rythmik but SVS right away got my business with that alone and the room I'm filling is small to medium 12' x 15' with 9 foot ceilings. But if other subs would fit better I will listen. Thanks

It's better not to do that. All you're really doing is make the amps of your AVR work harder trying to reproduce the really low bass. It's better to let the sub do what it was designed to do. This takes a big load off of your receiver and gives you a lot more headroom and less distortion.
