hey I just got my 1010i and decided to place it behind me angling me about 3 feet away. I have a denon 2112 receiver. Where did you u put the volume knob when calibrating it with audyssey? And at what db do you have yours set at?
I have them set at about 10 o'clock on the sub volume.

Not sure what you mean about the second question. Audyssey sets the volume to match the other speakers. I increased it by 3db's.
meaning what did you have the volume/gain set when you calibrated them? and what do you keep the volume/gain when you watch a movie

I have them set around 10 o'clock on the 1010i gain.

When I ran audyssey they were set at -5db.

I usually listen at -30 to -20. Rarely go higher unless I am testing.

Thanks!

The grilles come out pretty easily. You don't have to remove any of the screws. I originally thought that, perhaps, the outer edge of the grilles might extend out a little bit and be secured behind the plate there, but they're not. The grilles are held in by the tiniest amount of glue. If you get a very small flat head screw driver, like a mini-flat head, perhaps something that could be used for eye glasses, you can very gently take the flat head around the outer-edge of the grilles and gently pop them off. They'll also slide right back on as well. So the glue isn't necessary. I assume they just put it there as an extra way to secure the grilles. But, the grilles go right back on and sit snug in there without the glue/adhesive.

I did get to listen to my speakers a little and I'm pretty impressed. For the price, I don't think you can beat these things. The only thing I'm slightly disappointed about is I didn't realize how low of efficiency these speakers were. You'd think I'd have looked before I ordered them, but I didn't really take notice. Most speakers I've owned have been above 90db, so I assumed these were around the same (stupid of me to assume) these at 88db, are a little low for my tastes. I have to turn my receiver up quite a bit higher on these speakers to get the same sound output that I got out of my Focal. I have a beefy receiver so this isn't really a big deal, just a minor annoyance. I'm confused as to why any manufacturer would use something as low as 88db in their speakers.

But, as far as sound quality goes, I'm very impressed. They seem crisp and clear and I'm not having any problem with the lows. People that say the bass in these towers leave something to be desired are crazy. These things kick more than enough for me, and I'm pretty critical of things like that. Yeah, they don't go as low as a woofer, but most towers I've heard don't, so I don't see what the issue is that some people seem to be having with the low end sound on these. All in all, I'm very pleased. I just hope I can get over the low efficiency thing, it's got me annoyed. HA HA!!

My 3rd and 4th came in yesterday. Will not get to hook them up until tomorrow morning. I am going to have them stacked in the front with the top subs upside down with ports facing up. I will take off the feet on the top subs.

Some of us will need to see a photo of that while we drool with envy...you now have 4 subs better than my one!

I will definitely post pictures tomorrow.

No attached neighbors. I have them over for movie night sometimes. When we watch a movie near reference levels my dogs relieve themselves upstairs as they get a bit freaked. . We have to put them outside when we watch movies.

What is really crazy is that my wife didn't even notice. She new I got them but didn't even see it until I pointed it out.

Seems a trifle much.... No? LOL

Yeah, I thought if that already so I used a bunch of blue tack to stop them from moving. They will not move at all. I can move them around by just holding the top sub.

Wife and kids are leaving for the pool shortly, will calibrate them and test them out soon.

Maybe, but I got one of them for free with a black Friday package and got the other 3 for $897 total shipped during their $299 sale. So all together the cost was just above one of the Svs ported subs.
That's a good deal. I'd take four of them over a single sub, any day!

Nice Looking Setup!

Man, I got sub-envy!
How would you compare the EMP subs versus the SVS subs? I know you just got the EMP subs set up, so maybe you aren't ready to make such a comparison yet....
Well, I've spent about a week with my towers and center and I must say, I'm pretty impressed. For the price on a pair of these towers, I don't think you can come anywhere close to the sound quality and build quality. I've had Polk, Klipsch, EPO, Definitive and currently running Focal and these speakers easily hang with all of them. Obviously, the likes of all those brands has much higher and more pricey models available which will best the EMP. But, for this price point and even above this price point, in some cases, these EMP can't be beat! I currently have a pair of Focal Chorus 814V towers and the matching center channel. These towers were $999 each, and the center was $599-$699 depending on where you bought at the time. These EMP sound just as good as my three Focal. Like I said, Focal obviously has some very high-end models which would kill the EMP, but it's pretty amazing that I'd rate these things right on par with my three Focal that retailed for $2,600 just a year or two ago. For the price, simply an outstanding job by EMP. For the record, I'm not a super-audophile or anything. But, I've had these Focal for over a year and have listened to them extensively and I love them. But, I can't find anything that the EMP's don't do just as well for one third of the price of the Focal. Great speakers! I can't wait until they introduce some new models down the road and see what they do with the brand.

Focal are in the top pic, EMP on the bottom. Bravo, to EMP. These are great mid-range speakers. They're easily mid-range if they can sound as good as my Focal. And I've heard lots of entry level speakers that sound like crap, these are not, by any means, entry level, other than in price.

i would take my old svs sub over the emp sub anyway...not even a real comparison in my view
post #624 of 1653
Have you listed to one or are you just going by specs?

It is probably closer than you think.

When i got the first one with the speaker package I tested it against an Svs 16-46pc+ that I was using. Just listening to the 1010i I was impressed. The 16-46 ultimate dug deeper but considering it was free with my setup it was very good. Watching movies in my living room with the 4 subs provides an equivalent experience to what I get in my gameroom with 4 svs subs (pb12+, 16-46PC+, 20-39PC+ and 20-39PCi) albeit in a larger room.

I have run 20hz test tones with the empteks that make me fear for the structural rigidity of my house. The 15hz test tones are felt as well. The subs are equalized with Audyssey XT.

how did you hook up 4 subs to your receiver?

My receiver has 2 sub outs, which are really just an internal splitter. I have a splitter hooked to each sub out and then a cable running to each sub. The subs are all equidistant from the main listening position and are summed and eq'd as one with Audssey XT.

In my game room the receiver has xt32 and has 2 distinct sub outputs that are eq'd separately. There are 3 cylinder svs subs that are seen as one by the receiver on the left side and a svs box sub on the right.

I level match all of the subs to the main listening position before running audyssey to eq them.
do you guys recommend putting risers under the e1010 sub? I have it diagonal behind me in a 12x11basement room which is carpeted and has padding underneath the carpet. Looking for the sub woofer to rattle me and not all the books on the all
post #628 of 1653
Is the floor of your basement cement? If so with carpet over cement I am not sure it would help much. I have mine on hardwood floors and just put a 1/2 inch thick rubber mat underneath with seemed to help a lot.
yea there is cement, then padding, then the carpet. So u think it wont help that much?

I don't see how a sub could shake the cement foundation.

I think I read of a guy in the svs thread that had one in a game room and there was no difference.
