Enjoy your EMP's as I have. I think that EMP requires a signature for delivery. If you aren't there, they will take them to the closest FedEx field office where you can pick them up. They will lieave a call tag on your front door and you call them that night to arrange whatever delivery you want.

I am still loving my empteks and their customer service is top notch.

I have 20 month old twin boys and a 3 year old and they always seem to be tearing stuff up. So far I have had to order a replacement tower speaker, replacement crossover and woofer for my center channel, and grills for all three. Brian is great to deal with and they always get stuff out right away.

For anyone on the fence about buying them you are only hurting yourself by hesitating.
I didn't need to sign for my towers or center, or the two subs when I ordered them at a later date.

And yes, their customer service is top of the line. One of my subs was damaged in shipping and they sent out a replacement the second I e-mailed them, no questions asked. Also, when I missed the fourth of July sale because I had just ordered my towers a month earlier, they gave me a HUGE break on the two ES1010 subs I was looking to order, in addition to the fourth of July sale. They didn't hesitate! I can't say enough good things about their company! If they ever release newer more high-end towers, I will upgrade right away, even though there's nothing wrong with my current EMPs. They've impressed me that much!

would a denon avr1913 be able to handle the E55ti towers?

I would think that your Denon would power the speakers well. Remember however that the EMP's are oddly unable to be bi-amped, so there is only one allowed power source. I purchased an AVR with pre-outs so I could use an Emotiva XPA-3 200WPC amp, but I am sure you will do just fine.

Someone needs to make a youtube video!!

Obviously that's not indicative of SQ AT ALL, but still...fun to watch

Does anyone know what drivers are used in the E55ti?? If anyone could take them out and take pictures....that would be HUUUUGE. We could finally get some real conclusions on what drivers they use, etc etc.
I've been contemplating making a youtube video, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Look up "My home theater setup - DIY new update 2012 " with author CME4BRAIN on youtube for my videos.

Yeah I've seen yours before on there. Nice theater room! Take some vids of the e55ti's playing some various music

Like I said, obviously not the way to judge a speaker, but it's still fun to watch. How would you all describe the midrange and top end of these e55's? I know you're not going to get an amazing speaker for under $1,000, but with decent drivers you should be able to reproduce things like they should be in a pretty close manor. I like the large format tweeter in it, though it's a fabric dome (and I can't seem to find out which one it is) it might be easy to replace with a nicer large format for cheap. It's crossed at 3kHz, which is quite simple for most large formats
post #760 of 1663
The. e55's midrange and high is exceptional IMHO. It is the mid to low bass that is just a tad thin for music, not for HT. for music I set mt AVR mode to "7-channel stereo" which kicks in my SubW to compensate. These E55's are way better than my old Polk RTI-10's for midrange and high. Setting the SubW crossover higher also helps.
I've owned a lot of different brand towers, some that were pretty expensive, the most extreme case being my Focal towers which were $999 each. These EMPs do everything just as well as the Focal did. I've mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating as I think it's pretty impressive. That said, I've had some expensive speakers and really, most of them have been a little light on bass and benefited a lot from a subwoofer. These EMP seem to hit all the high and midrange notes just perfectly, in my opinion.

Thanks guys. I saw a deal on SlickDeals that happened back on July for a pair of e55ti's for $560/shipped( a-stock!)....wish I could have gotten in on that. These look identical to the RBH SX Signature line (the ones with curved cabinets). Any vids fellas? Lol

I agree, In fact when I was auditioning some ~$1200 Focals, I couldn't help but thing "These are pretty close to my EMPs. but they won't go as loud")
This is good info guys, thanks! I wish they'd go down to $570/pr again...

So I've been doing some looking around at possible drivers being used in these towers using these pics: http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/floorstanding/emptek-e55ti/e55ti-introduction

I haven't gotten around to the midrange or woofer yet, but I believe I've found a few good matches for the 1" fabric/textile dome tweeter. One of my best guesses would be the Vifa BC25TG15 (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=264-1040). Ferrite magnet, same layout, etc etc.

If someone wants to measure the diameter of their tweeter so we can compare it to that one that'd be great. Looks pretty identical though as far as screw holes, how it looks from the front and the rear, etc. That's a good thing as this is a good budget tweeter. I've seen some DIY bookshelves combined with the Dayton RS-150's that have a very nice FR. Can't say I've ever heard this tweeter though. I've heard the Dayton RS-180's & they were very nice for their price. Again, all speculation as I'm not sure if EMP/RBH uses proprietary drivers

EDIT: Looking a little harder at tweeter pics, it looks like they have some silver on them? That true? If so, they are starting to resemble some Seas based tweeters

emptek.com was running a huge fourth of July sale, the prices during that sale were nuts! They also ran a back to school sale just recently, which still had some great prices, but not quite as low as the fourth of July sale. I'm assuming they do a couple sales like that throughout the year so if you've got the patience, just wait it out. I'll bet they'll even do something around Christmas time.

I took some pics of my speakers a few pages back. Here is a closeup of the tweeter, with the black grille removed, if you missed it.

I believe EMP and RBH use custom manufactured drivers. They are not made in scandinavia either. This lets prices be more reasonable for performance.

That said some of their higher end stuff do use scanspeak tweeters.
Has anyone bothered to ask Emptek what drivers they use

I've e-mailed them over the last few months for several things. And as I've previously stated, their customer service is second to none. In my chats with Brian, I did, at one point, ask him what the surround material on the cones of their speakers are made of. Obviously, they're made of rubber, it's not foam. But, I was hoping he'd elaborate as to the type of rubber, etc... He said he was not allowed to give out that information. From what he explained, or the way he put it. EMP has developed their speakers at a great price/performance ratio. And I'm assuming they probably wouldn't talk about where or who they get their materials from as to keep any competitors from trying to put something identical together.

Granted, any speaker company can shop around and put together good price/performance packages. But, I don't blame EMP Tek for not wanting to reveal who, where and what they pay for their materials. Someone could certainly e-mail them and inquire, but since I was shot down on my surround material question, I never bothered going further and asking specifics about drivers, etc...

I guess I missed those pics, thanks. Is that the flash/camera or is the middle black and the outer part silver?

They actually use both. Some lines use proprietary and some use pre-made or pre-made (one off for RBH/EMP). Here's a little info on their site. http://www.rbhsound.com/support/fabricdome.html. Danish manuf. are companies like Scanspeak, Hiquphon, Jamo, Dynaudio and a few others. I think I remember seeing Scanspeak tweets in one of their lines so I'm sure they use Scan, which is great. Can't get much better than Scan, Hiq. and Dynaudio

The Signature SX series looks VERY close to the e55ti. The dimensions are pretty much spot on besides the depth, where the RBH says 14" and the EMP says 12.25". Could be that RBH measured with the stands. I'm thinking that's why the heights are slightly different on each also...RBH measured without the stand and EMP measured with. Same cabinet style, same port locations, same driver size HOLES it seems as the smaller mid in the RBH has a large format around it for such a small driver. From what I've read cabinet thickness is the same in both.

I'm going to have a look today while I'm bored at work at what the possible midrange and woofers might be. Shouldn't be too too hard as they've given us the cone material, etc.

Yeah I hadn't e-mailed them yet because I already knew the answer. No way they'd reveal what drivers they use. That would bring speculation (good and bad), people trying to build their own for less, etc etc. Not too many companies will give out this information like Dynaudio, though they make their own drivers (which are fantastic!).

The dome of the tweeter is clear/transparent, you're seeing through it in the picture. Then, you have the black middle with a whitish ring around it, both underneath the clear dome. It's the only tweeter I've seen that looks this way. I've never had a speaker with a clear dome on top.
Not sure where they get their drivers, but Audioholic magazine say the speaker is worth the price for the drivers alone!
Do you have that article Elihawk? I thought I read everything about these lol, but maybe I missed something.

I'd really like to audition these, get my RTA on them, etc etc. I feel like I could do quite a bit of good for EMP's sake if they're as nice as you are saying. One thing I don't like about my Energy's is that the top end can be too warm and lack detail. I've done quite a bit of EQ on them and spent hours doing it over the course of weeks. So has Zaph over at ZaphAudio, but I can never get them to sound accurate at around 2kHz+ without some negative effects. Of course, the midbass needs quite a large cut around 100hz or so, which I did and it helped improve the boominess, but they just lack detail that I like and that "should" be there.

I've always liked using Alice in Chains - Alice in Chains (MTV Unplugged) (in flac/wav of course) for some good dynamic ability and accuracy. It's sounds downright amazing in my car, but there is just no life in the Energy's. If any of you all haven't had a chance to pick up this album, I highly suggest it.

To me it seems like a white polyester etc fabric. What you see "shining" on top of that is probably the heavy layer of clear doping material to keep the otherwise soft diaphrahm stiff and thus detailed sounding.

I saw this come across my desk and I thought I'd better jump in and save everyone a bunch of time and speculation. All of the drivers used for the Impression Series products are proprietary designs to EMP, and we're the ones who manufacture it. The tweeter in question is a doped, soft fabric dome. That's about all I can tell you without having to kill any of you afterward! wink.gif Sorry guys, you just won't find these drivers available through anyone else - they're too good!

^ very cool. Thanks for dropping in! Always like to see a team that backs their products on forums, answers questions, etc

If EMP ever needs someone to review a pair and help get a few more sales by word of mouth (or type lol) then let me know! Lol just playin. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up a pair soon. Can you give us any info on if there will be another great sale on the Impression line soon? Thanks again Daren

I know the REP has already said that RBH has their propreitary drivers being used in the EMP line, but figured I'd show ya this since you said you've never seen a clear looking dome tweeter. I haven't either, but just came across this as I was looking at some speakers I saw in someone's sig on here from a brand I haven't heard of. Looks like the same design type as RBH and this tweeter seems to be liked by many. Again, maybe not the same...but whatever. Just sayin lol

^^^ Yeah, that looks pretty darn close. I've even removed the EMP tweeters to take a look at them and the rear of them look pretty similar to those as well.
Quick question, I've got E55w on the sides, but anyone using the E5Bi for rears in a 7.1 setup? Just curious how those do back there.

FWIW, still loving my EMPs I purchased about six months ago. I just wish I had a little more power than my Pio 1021 is giving me. Most movies aren't loud enough (for me) til I'm at about -16 or so.
I love my EMP55's but if there was just one nit pick about them, it would be that there is only one pair of input terminals, preventing biamping. I don't really have power problems as I have an Emotiva XPA-3 providing 200wpc.
