Same here. I have the Costco page I printed out and it says that price is good from Dec. 18 to Jan 4. I don't see it being coming back up on a Saturday night.

I hope the Superbowl sales do come about but like you I'm not holding my breath. I would still jump on a Costco,Amazon or maybe a forum sponser deal. I just liked the idea of having a local Costco if I need to swap or do a return.

We'll just have to wait it out and if you see something you are comfortable with just jump on it.

Because I missed it for $100 less I decided to just buy it at that point.

I was worried about not being able to get one since I checked the local stores Sears, CC, BB...I even had them check their surrounding stores (I live in the Boston area so there are plenty of options for each store) Not one store had them in stock and I was told that I would have to order it and it may come in 7-21 days. I didn't want to wait and none of them were coming close to the price I got on Amazon. (I think Sears was $2900+tax, CC and BB were $3400+tax!!!)

I guess my point is playing the waiting game can hurt you sometimes as well. It hurt my pocket by $100 by waiting 1 extra day. If you are seriously thinking about buying one of these just do it and hopefully the website will honor a price drop within 30 days.

If I was still waiting for the price to drop I would be very disappointed since the unit actually went up a few dollars again since I purchased it.

Anyway, it should be delivered by this Tuesday!

Once again thanks to everyone in this forum for making my decision easier...

I say to everyone that is on the fence and waiting for the right price just do it! If you are ready to buy now then do it and enjoy it.

I have 30 days to return/price adjust. Even if it goes down say $200-$300 after that I really don't care as much since at that point I will have owned it for over a month.

This replaced my 3 year old 720p 56" DLP with the new Panny. I'm glad I didn't wait anymore than I already had...

Also free shipping.

Also $200+ in taxes. Fail.

I am purchasing this set too. Although, I can hold off another 6 weeks or so. I really want to pull the trigger now, considering the price.. but the TV wont be in use until mid-feb.

I just hope I dont get the shaft and prices jump back up when I decide to buy.

Be careful who you buy it from as stated earlier. 6ave is ok but you need to look a little further into the shipping. Is it White Glove or do they drop it off at the curb and you are on your own? I believe it is standard and they do not help you lift it or assemble it at all. Amazon does white glove shipping. They lift it, assemble it, position it, and test it before they leave.

I bought mine from Amazon for $2625 w/free white glove shipping. This was important to me as I live in a three story home. I also considered the excellent reputation of Amazon and even if I could have save $100, the peace of mind ordering through Amazon did it for me. I would be equally confident ordering through Costco. The other retailers I have little experience with, but have heard some good and some bad. Can't go wrong with Amazon or Costco.

Finally, most American Express and some M/C Visa cards double the warranty on any qualified purchase. A plasma TV is a qualified purchase to AMEX and I got a two year warranty for free in addition to a 3% rebate for using my card.

6th Ave is ok. I got the UPSS curb delivery and it was near white gloves service. They rang my doorbell, bought it in and had me check for any problems on the TV, but did not help me assemble it.

I think you are in good hands with 6th Ave as I *think* they would not want any issue and have you bust the TV up doing the transition of you moving the TV from the curb to your home so they upgrade your delivery method automatically, from what I read and experience -- after all, they allow exchanges on defective/damaged TVs.

Man I am I angry Amazon had this TV for 2299.99 today I went to do some research came back half hour later and they jacked the price up to $2,429.99 . This will teach me to do research before I spend a couple thousand dollars.

What is the difference between the 800 model and the 850? I'm assuming the 850 would be the newer model...
Rick
That is not correct, here is what is:

-850 adds Studio Ref Mode. Pro Settings. RS232C input. VieraCast (Internet). 850 loses the THX mode but adds a wider color gamut (Digital Cinema Color)

The question is if you need these added features ?? If so the cost is worth it.

These are the differences in these two models below. The 850 is a tweakable set compared to the 800U, if someone has the time and knowledge to tweak. To say one is better than another would not be the right way to separate these two units, it is more about what a person wants to do with there set as these units are meant for two different types of people.

ABC warehouse was willing to sell me the TH-58PZ850U for $2600.00, plus tax and 30 bucks shipping yesterday.

Just too good of a price to pass up. I would have been fine with the 800 or 850, but they were local and I could get it delivered the next day.

there are better prices on here i would have called cleveland he will give you a better price then that and you wouldn't have to pay sales tax if i can save a few hundred bucks and i have to wait a few days to do that i will..

Interesting, I buy over the net quite a bit, but shipping long distance on a big plasma always concerns me, particularly if there is a problem out of the box. I'm sure they do a great job at Cleveland, they have a great rep. I just felt 2780 in total (tax and local shipping) was pretty darn good and tough to pass up.

I've hardly seen better than 2600 advertised even from the sketchier places over the net (though I KNOW Cleveland has a pristine rep).

Plus, in my case I live in Michigan and ABC warehouse is a Michigan based company and anything to help our local economy is a good thing.

I do like to support sponsors though also, blue jeans, monoprice etc.

I've narrowed my choices down to a 58-800U or an LG 60PG60 and I'm curious if any 58-800U owners considered the LG and, if so, what was the deciding factor.

I realize one's viewing environment factors into the decision but the LG and Panny look pretty close on paper and I do not notice a discernable between the TVs when seeing them at BB. Most of my viewing is SD cable or OTA HD (lots of football); i occassionally watch movies.

Price is not a deciding factor.

I think you will like the 58PZ800. Colors are very accurate and will provide a solid picture as well.

I almost added a qualifer that I now need to add. For me, there is not $1,000 of additional value in a Kuro. +/- a few hundred dollars for a Panny or LG is not a deciding factor. Unless the Kuro hits $3k in the next few weeks, it's not an option.

.. chris, though the LG 60pg60 was last year's (2008) CES award winner, others may still want to compare; believe it also has the single panel glass much like the Pioneer's .. but its probably not a biggy considering sitting distance.

Since prices are so cheap on these 58 inchers, I am debating whether or not I really want that 5020.
