I hope you'll forgive this off-topic post, but I've never owned a blu-ray player and was looking to pick one up to use with this 600M. Perhaps some of you are in the same boat? Plasmas have terrific brightness levels and, unlike their LCD rivals, can comfortably handle sport and other programs with rapid motion.

But the huge glass screens on plasmas are highly reflective so you may be surprised to learn that the best don't have an anti-glare coating.

Compare picture quality on one with and one without the anti-glare coating and you will immediately see the one without the coating has a much clearer picture. That's because the coating is akin to putting a veil between the viewer and the picture.

P IONEER gave its KURO KRP-600M a high contrast level of 100,000:1 but, thankfully, resisted the marketing pressure to apply a picture-degrading anti-glare layer to its 60-inch screen.

Auditioned in a brightly lit store away from direct sunlight, picture quality was state-of-the art and light reflections not a big issue.

The KURO has five times the level of blacks of Pioneer's eighth-generation models. It reproduced the deepest blacks in the Blu-ray version of Resident Evil with ease, the extra detail adding to the movie's sense of foreboding atmospherics and tension.

A full high-definition model with 1920x1080p resolution, the KURO reproduced the fast-moving action of the Ronin car chase without a hint of smear.

Well, I just became an owner tonight. Set will probably not arrive for another 2 weeks though. Oh well.

This will give me time to figure out how I want to mount it. The tabletop stand is currently difficult or impossible to come by. I am now leaning towards a wall mount -- Sanus, Peerless, and Omnimount have all been suggested by various parties.

Can't wait to hear others' experiences in the meantime.

Don't know what you mean but the remote control and GUI is more closer to the Signature than to the XX20.

600M will be here Monday. Should have some pics up later that day and will answer any questions that I can.

I won't be set up for actual viewing until later in the week (not sure when my receiver is arriving). But I'll probably just leave it running some break-in images for a several days. I've heard different things about the effectiveness of a break-in period, but I suppose it doesn't hurt...

hi everyone iam new here. does anyone actually have one of these KRP models? and if so whats your opinion of them vs the other models. like the 6020 and the 151. do you think they just as good? from what i read about them iam ready to take the krp plunge, but i havent seen a KRP in a store. i have checked out the other models

I ordered a 500M today, I expect it by the middle of the week. I went with the 500M because to 600M was just too big for the room.

I still do not know what to attach for speakers. I will break in and tackle that next. When I get it, I can check the speaker compatibility with the 5020 under speaker and measure the holes.

I haven't heard of anyone with hands-on experience w/ a North American KRP. However, there's no reason to doubt that these panels will live up to the sparkling Kuro standard.

Speaking for myself, the two biggest reasons I went with the KRP vs. xx20 or Elite are: (1) price, (2) the inclusion of the Pure mode (not available on the xx20's).

Most people agree that in terms of display quality, the KRP's should fall between the xx20's and the Elites. However, the pricing of the KRP's doesn't follow that pattern, which made me very happy You'll need to confirm that for yourself.

You'll probably never see a KRP in a store since it was designed for the custom installer market. I suspect the dealers that have access to them are simply drop shipping them from the distributors to end users. And the dealers I've talked to say they don't stay in stock very long.

Potential disqualifying issues for some buyers: (1) no built-in speakers (though there IS wiring to attach speakers directly to the display) and (2) no built-in tuner. Neither was an issue for me because I have an external 7.1 speaker setup and use a set top box for television viewing. That -- and the price -- made the 600M a no-brainer for me.

The only other issue that may concern a small percentage of users who are also considering the Elite is the lack of ISF calibration. Again, not something I'm overly concerned about.

BTW, congrats Rich on the purchase!!!

speakers to be used KRP-SO2 for the 600m, and the SO4 for the 500m. this is on the pioneer website. if you go to pioneerelectronics.com then use there search. i put in search KRP-600m, then you will see all of the stands and speakers to use. you must do a search for that model because the north american site doesnt even list the KRP models under the normal spots.

Its looking like it will not have it, but we should know by next week, maybe even Monday. Someone is supposed to get theirs on Monday.
