I received my 600M last week and think it is an extraordinary bargain, but would like to gain access to the full calibration capabilities of the monitor. What do people think? I am an experience software hacker, but know little about how the internal hardware on these sets is configured.

What ver does yours say:

* Switch on you unit
* Select “Home Menu”
* Select “Set up”
* Select “System set up”
* Select “Technical info”
* You should see: Software version: 09xx-xx01

I wouldn't doubt they changed the version numbering for the NA units

There is no System Set up menu. The is an Input Setup and Control Setup and neither have Technical Info.

Turbe: My 600M is in my other house and I will not be back up there until a week from Friday to check the version. My thought was that if the NA version does have different firmware, the update might take a valid password to allow access to the settings. Not sure if Pioneer is smart enough to filter access via IP addresses, but it might work. Just a thought as it pains me, as I am sure many others, to see them cripple the functionality of an otherwise terrific monitor. I originally hoped it was going to be like the PDP-5000EX which they sold into the custom installation channel and was essentially the Euro version of the PRO-FHD1.

So do any of the new owners have pics of these suckers in action yet?
post #335 of 4963
Look like I have a buyer for my 5020.

I ordered my 600M from Value Electronics today, I should have it by Friday.
I also got a pair of 151 Speakers on Ebay and 141 Speakers, so I guess I will know soon how to attach them

I'm sure the upgrade checks the current version...

No, unless you want to see it sitting on the floor -- running break-in images

I've watched a few minutes of SD DVDs. But without speakers hooked up, there's not much point. I will say that just looking at the PS3 menu screen is pretty impressive.

I'll be mounting it on Monday and will posts some pics.

Not only is my set scheduled to arrive today, but the wall mount that I was kicking myself for ordering UPS ground yesterday when I was expecting the set to arrive next week is also due to come today. If things go right, I could have pics to show by the weekend.

Not to mention, if you do somehow get the European firmware to take on the North American models.
Is that by doing so, you probably also just voided your North American warranty on it as well.
post #340 of 4963
I will be the first to admit that I dont know how this stuff works, but maybe you could pop the American firmware back in if something goes wrong and it needs warranty coverage. Regardless, that only matters if this is even an option, which most likely it wont be, but I have my fingers crossed

Problem is, it could also come down to the issue of, IF you can even get a copy of the proper North American firmware for it to put it back.
Plus it also might come down to, if you can always get it loaded back in just right before something happens to the set. It pretty much would be impossible to reload the North American firmware back in, if the TV breaks down in a manner to where it will not even turn on. So if that was to happen, you more or less would be totally SOL.

called shipper today (pilot) they got it in! so tommorow is the day. funny thing that pioneer warehouse shipping co in hauppauge drove by my house with tv all the way to JFK, then pilot will drive it all the way back out on long island. sounds like a nice tour, have my fingers crossed lol.
post #343 of 4963

Any of you guys buying the 500M and interested in the stand or speakers?

I still have both in the boxes from my 1110 and 1120 elites. I don't know if they are compatible, but PM if interested.

BTW - I should be getting my 600M today....

I just ordered the Omnimount ULPT-XA low profile tilt mount. You can get it for 1/2 MSRP on Amazon. I don't know if I'll use the tilt feature, but it's low profile (1.5"), so it seems like the best of both worlds. One of the Sound and Vision magazine editors used this mount for his Pio Elite.

Here's a list of compatible wall mounts. I took some of them from the Signature 141 owners thread. I assume any mount that works with a 141 will work with the 600M. This is NOT a complete list. There are cheaper mounts from Monoprice that may work, but I didn't investigate them.

Sanus VMPL3: Comes with low profile (1.5") AND tilting attachment (2.5). You use one or the other.
Peerless PLA60: Articulating wall arm, you need the adaptor plate too (PLP-NEC61)
Peerless SA760P
Peerless ST670
Peerless SF670
Pioneer KRP-WM01
Omni Mount U3 Tillt
OmniMount ULPTX (low profile)
OmiMount Architectural cantilever
Promounts UF-PRO400
Chief LSAU, LSMU (flat), LTAU, LTMU (tilt)

Just found a Peerless mount (SUF 660P). Thx Alex...

.4" from the wall.

This is half the depth of the Pio WM-01. Plus much chaeper.

I thought the KRP-600M required the next step up, the SF670 or SF670P?

I just took the SF660 off my wall and replaced it with the SF670.

Edit: According to the Peerless site, the 600M doesn't work with the SF660P.

1+ unless he is hanging a 500M.

The SF660 has a maximum hanging width of 32.48. The 600M requires a minimum of 33.5" width.

FOr any Pio 60 inch its the 670

The mounting holes are identical on the entire 670 lineup, correct?

Alex was checking for me. I think I jumped the gun. Sorry.

.4" was too good to be true.

I'm going to look into a customer mount (I have access to a machine shop) that slides the plasma into the wall. I know from experience that these thin mounts are a pain to work with.

I'll post some pics once I'm done. I want this plasma to look like a picture frame on the wall....

Too depressed to give many details, but 600M arrived with cracked screen today.

Only things of note are that the box looked pristine and the cracks were subtle -- needed a flashlight to see them.

Mfr date 11/08

Shipped through NY.

Bummer.
post #354 of 4963
jfkrane: this sounds familiar to mine - same manufacturing date and box looked perfect.

Plus, the cracks, while evident were somewhat subtle....interesting....
post #355 of 4963
Hmmm....something's starting to smell fishy with all these cracked screens. Doesn't this rate seem pretty high based on the relatively low numbers having been shipped? Or are the forum members just disproportionately unlucky?
post #356 of 4963
Yes, this is quite unusual. One thing I noticed was the relatively small box these are in. The box measures 14.5" in width, while my box for my 5 year old panny 42" measures nearly 21" wide. I realize the pio is much thinner, but I think that would make them even more fragile. Plus a box of this width, plus the thin pallet makes them quite prone to tipping over....who knows if htis is what is happening, but it seems they are quite fragile?

Be very careful, you do not want to block those vents and fans on the back.

A million thank you to Roberto to provide the picture.

I have used this mount for the 5020 and I will be using it for the 500M.
It is simple to install and hang and it works great. Cheap on Amazon

That's the danger of shipping a large TV. Almost everyone on this Forum has a horror story to share with you.

I cant speak for these models but the odds that I have seen on the Elites are very good, it ALL depends on the shipper and the process. (and this is from the person that has fired multiple shippers)
