Paradigm Speakers - Mini vs 7s

Hello,

I am in the market for new speakers and need help. I have narrowed the speakers to the Mini Monitors and the 7s. Do you feel the larger 7s is worth the extra coin for my room size, just under 12x16, or will the minis work just fine.

I am buying the onkyo 706 and am leaning towards the cc290 for the center.

Thanks!

The Monitor 7's are excellent speakers. The Mini's (which to my ear are almost the same as the Atom's) are very good. If you have a good subwoofer the Mini's are probably plenty for HT, if your speakers are primarily for music then go with the 7's. (Personally, I have the Paradigm Titans)

I just got done auditioning some Minis, Atoms, and CC 290 in my house over the past few days. My room is 17x17. No question, this system filled the room just fine.

Before boxing everything up to take back to the store, I tried comparing speakers in 2-chann for stereo music listening. I found that I preferred the Atoms over the Mini's. At least to my ears for music, neither speaker did anything wrong or offense. But neither speaker excited me either.

The Monitor 7's are a fun speaker- not neutral, but pleasant to listen to. My local dealer sells lots of these for HT setups.

Have you listened to these speakers yourself? No substitute to your own ear. These choices are so personal, afterall.

BTW, I just picked up an Onkyo 706. No complaints so far.

Good luck with your choices.

I have listened to the minis and atoms. And preferred the Minis. I have decided on the 706, just waiting for the right price to buy, seems 550 is the norm.

Did you listen to the Studio 20s...heard they are great....thinking of not buying the center for now and getting the studio 20s and the 706....thoughts?

Yes, I have heard the Studio 20's. They are an extremely well-loved and well-reviewed speaker. I had my local Paradigm dealer order a pair for me to demo. Strangely enough, I did not like them. I strongly suspect something might have been wrong with the set-up.

FYI. I spent part of the morning talking with a local AV guy who used to own a high end stereo shop. He suggested that Onkyo receivers sound considerably less good than Denon. He added that Marantz sounds even better than Denon. I am seriously considering returning my 706.

I found a code aflaud25 that can be used at 6ave on Marantz. I found the sr4003 for 411.00 and the 5003 for $599.00 at this site. check to be sure they are in stock, thought I saw a post where there were issues.

Not sure if the 4003 which is in my price range is better than the 606 for 350. The 706 is going for 550. Do you or anyone know if the Marantz sr5003 is better and worth $50 more than the Onkyo 706? 599 is pushing my budget and could hurt my speaker choices which are the Paradigm Mini Monitors and the cc290. Maybe I go with the Mini Monitors and the cc190.

Too Many Choices!!!!

Still deciding....found this deal on 6ave for the Denon 2309ci, 561 shipped. Not liking what I hear on Onkyo and how hot it get. Heard Denon handles this better.

Any thoughts on the Denon 2309ci?

I did decide on the Mini Monitors and the cc290...just looking for the right price. I will then add a SVS Sub later.
