50" Maxent dying need NEW 50"+ under 3K

My bedroom tv is dying or already dead. I need to start thinking about a replacement. I don't want to spend more than 3K. I currently have a 50" maxent that I purchased 4 yrs ago. I would like to go to a 1080P model. The plasma I have now runs very hot and watching tv in bed for more than 1-2 hrs really heats the room up. Would a LCD run much cooler? How much better is 120Hz?

I am about 10ft away while viewing the tv.

Given your budget, the Samsung PN50A650 is your best bet. It will be like going from B/W to color compared to your Maxent.

Try/Audition the:

1. Pioneer 5020FD
2. Panasonic 50PZ800U
3. Samsung 50A650
4. LG 50PG60

These should get it done.

Since you said under 3 grand, you can actually get a Panasonic 58pz800u or Samsung 58a550 for about $2500. Heck, if you want to save a lot of money and still get a great set go for a Panasonic 50pz80u for $1200.

If I were spending that amount of money I'd be looking at a 5020 or a bigger Panasonic model.

My choice would be
1. 5020
2. 58" PZ800U
